Ignore list

I had someone on my ignore list once. This person used to make me mad, now they make me laugh, so I have no need for ignore. I figure if you gotta ignore someone on an Internet BB, its time to take an inventory of your priorities -- I did, came back refreshed, and its been smooth sailing ever since.

Question - When you ignore someone, you can still see what they say if someone else quotes them, right?

Too bad there is not a way to ignore their quotes as well.

I'm not sure, Esmerelda. I do remember when I used it (and its been years, and I think on the other server) it had glitches to it. Like if you were doing a search on a keyword you WOULD see people you had on ignore, but otherwise not. Its not perfect. Best to just mentally ignore perhaps, or walk away from the PC for a bit until rationalization sets in.

i've used it before, but no one is on my list now. way back when, it used to be if you had someone on ignore their posts didn't even show up. i liked it that way. now i don't use it too much because i have no will power and generally look anyways.

I'm pretty sure that's true, Esmerelda. Technically, it's not the person on your ignore list posting, so it'll show up.

I dont use the ignore list. I ususally just use the back button or post a disagreement.

How does this thing work then? If you can still read their posts, I don't really get it. I assumed that they'd dissapear if you used ignore. Obviously I've never used it. Although there are some on here who irritate me intensely, I don't think I'd want to stop reading their posts. I wouldn't be able to mouth obsenities about them under my breath if I did that.

Btw, if I'm on anyone's ignore list and they're reading this, pm me and let me know. I'm not going to beg forgiveness or anything, it'd just be interesting to know. You never know, you might be one of the people that irritates me, so we'd have a healthy mutual hatred thing going on.

Ace -- if you had someone on your Ignore List, you'd see a message saying that "UserX" is on your Ignore list when you are reading a thread that they are on. There's a link you can click to read the post if you'd like.

Mine was actually baiting me, which comes with the territory, unfortunately. He was actually trying to push his own business on this site and was angry because he kept getting caught. He's history though....

No one on the CB can make me disgusted enough to put on ignore. Then what ammunition would I have???

I think it is as much for me about knowing myself, how I will react to certain things and what I can and can not take. Certain, very, VERY FEW people (2) have made it to my ignore list and I'm not going to give details here as to why.

For me, I KNOW myself and I know when I read their constant incessent babble, I am going to get angry and , frankly, discouraged from using these boards at all for the reasons I enjoy using them.

I do not put people on ignore because I disagree with them or have political differences.

I DO use ignore when people are constantly spouting the same dribble post after post with the obvious intent to start an argument, I think it's often best to ignore their posts, and by not reading them, it's easier.

I hope that makes sense. Not sure if I worded it properly. I think what I'm trying to say is, I disagree with a lot of people's opinions here on the DIS, but reagrdless of that, I like them as people and want their input in my threads, to my questions and I want to be able to respond to their requests for prayers and PD and such and have fun with them in other light hearted posts. Heck, I'm even up for a good natured debate.

The people on my ignore list, I don't want their input on anything I'm asking about, and I don't really care one way what happens in their personal lives.

I'm glad we have this feature, as I think it really makes for less arguments on the Dis when used properly.

Bernie did that once. Do a search on Old Kicker, he had a thread about it, so hilarious! If I remember correctly he found himself in the middle of cyber nowhere with no way out!
