If you've stayed at the Mansions at POR, I need advice.

Hello!

We've narrowed our choice down to POR and to the Mansions because of needing an elevator (2 strollers and an EMV in our party of 4 rooms). Now, which building should we request? We definitely need non-smoking, so I know Oak Manor is out.

If you've stayed there, please let me know which mansion you were in and how it was for walking: how far to a bus stop? how far to the food court? how far to the main pool? It's hard to tell on maps whether we'd be walking 5 minutes or 15 minutes from any given spot up to the front.

I know that a request is just a request, but I'd like to have it be an educated request! :)

Thanks for all your advice!

I believe Magnolia Terrace is the building of choice. 5 minute or less stroll over the bridge to the main pool, even a shorter walk to the quite pool located next to the building. The east bus depot is located behind the building, again a 5 minute or less walk. Distance to the main building, front desk, food court and such is less that a 10 minute walk. :earsboy:

Parterre Place is right over the bridge. Nice quiet pool, and very nice landscaping. Parterre is right behind the luggage storage area across the bridge. Bell services is next to the main lobby.

I stayed in Magnolia Terrace this past summer. I thought this was the best location. The main pool was 2-3 minutes away. The food court was 5 minutes. We also had a bus stop right behind our building. Often we were the only ones at the stop. I really enjoyed POR.

We enjoyed the location of Acadian House...we are hoping we get it again.

We had a room in Parterre Place and I found it to be a nice quiet location, and not really too far from anything. The grounds are so beautifully manicured that we didn't mind walking anywhere!

We found Oak Manor to be convenient to a Quiet pool and the Main Building by a bridge, as well as the east Depot for the bus. It was a jaunt to the main pool though. Also, only a few of the rooms are smoking, there are non-smoking rooms in Oak Manor (as we were in one :teeth

Thanks for all the replies. I'm just remembering our trip to DL (Disneyland, not Dixie Landings! ;) ) last year when we stayed at HoJo's and had a 15 to 20 minute walk back to our hotel. After a long day at the park, that 20 minutes at 12 am or 1 am felt like an eternity!!!!! I don't want to have that here, especially since we'll have kids on this trip.

It's looking like we're not more than 5 minutes away from things at any of the mansions. Am I correct in assuming that from the posts? We were spoiled at FQ with our less than one minute walk to everything. We'll see if I made the right decision to stay somewhere else (strictly to try out other resorts, nothing wrong with FQ -- we loved it!).

All of the mansion bldgs are pretty close to the food court, main bldg. We stayed in Magnolia Terrace on the second floor and it was wonderful. We were in the front of the bldg (supposedly a water view) facing the river. There was a nice quiet pool right next to our bldg, as well as a laundry room next to the pool. There is a bus stop behind the bldg and across the parking lot but we seemed to use the main stop by the food court mostly.
When we first stayed in POR (then DxL), we were in AB in bldg 35...it has to be one of the furthest out bldgs...but it was still only about 7-8 minute walk to the food court, and a lovely walk at that. So, wouldn't worry too much about the length of time it will take you from any of the mansions.

We were in Acadian House and Oak Manor. I actually preferred Acadian House. It felt closer to everything. WE just walker across the parking lot to get to the closest bus stop. In Oak Manor we went to the main building stop. I think that Oak MAnor was closer to the quiet pool. At least it felt that way. Acadian was much quieter.

We have stayed in Parterre Place with a parking lot view and Oak Manor with a courtyard view. I personally liked Oak Manor better. We also had a non smoking room. We were a little closer to the main building and bus stops in Oak Manor. It was no more than a 5 minute walk to either.

I, too, had the same question of which mansion is best to stay at. We are a childless couple who like to know where to find a quiet/tranquil place to stay. This will be our first stay at POR. We've reserved January 2006. Everyone has great suggestions. Sounds like you really can't go wrong at POR..... :goodvibes

One other question, is the sit down restaurant worth trying, or should we eat at one of the restaurants at the parks?
Thanks everyone!

Boatwright's is the sitdown restaurant and a quick visit to the restaurants thread will reassure you that it is a big favorite for breakfast. We also enjoyed our dinner there in April.
