Is it better to go up I-4 then down I-95 from the Orlando area, or go the Bee Line Expwy?

Note: this is on a Launch Day; we will have tickets for the June 14 launch, if that helps!

Traffic on launch day is horrible (and I'm from NY). It took us four hours from MCO and we were very lucky to get there in time. If you have a car pass leave at least 6 hours before launch and bring a cooler.

I'm another New York (ex-New Yorker now) and I agree with Lewsic.

A better strategy is to make reservations at a motel near KSC (if there's any room left). Even then you need to get an early start.

O.K., here's the deal ...

I've set aside one day for this, 'cause we were gonna tour KSC anyway, then the launch sorta fell in our laps. As I explained in another post, the launch date was moved from 2 days before we arrived to right in the middle of our trip. After the launch, the wife wanted to stop off @ Daytona Beach ... is that impossible? The launch is late afternoon (4:25 p.m.) .. I understand from reading the boards here that coming back after the launch could take a *little* time , but do you think that we might enjoy a little beach time following our day @ KSC?

We really can't get a room for the night on the coast, since we really don't want to pack up and re-pack to back to our hotel, Hampton Inn Maingate West. (Did that last year, and was too much work!

And my original question still stands ..

When you get your car pass from NASA they give you directions, you take the Bee Line.
The horrible traffic is GETTING TO THE LAUNCH, after the launch the traffic is ok but I'm not sure why you want to be getting TO A BEACH after 5:00.
The KSC is closed the day of the launch until after the shuttle goes up so you can't tour the facility before the launch and I suspect it may be pretty crowded after the launch.
Leave your hotel AT LEAST 6 hours before the launch and take a cooler with a food and drinks. There are portable bath rooms. NASA will sometimes close (even to people with passes) 2 hours before launch. Although I'm glad I went you're basically killing most of the day for 2 minutes.
