We were listed as main (early) dining on our reservation and when we arrived at the terminal saw that we were allocated late, so went to get it changed and there was no availability, we asked on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day of the cruise and we were stuck with late. Our trip was the 7 night western Caribbean and wasn't in school holidays so we didn't think there would be so many people wanting the early seating.
We were hugely disappointed until the night we had booked Palo (and had booked quite early as we tend to eat early) and then saw the show after dinner and there was a real difference - kids screaming up and down the aisles and it was PACKED full. After that, we decided that eating later for a nicer experience at the show was worth the trade-off. We would choose late dining on future cruises based on this.
We were also quite surprised to be allocated a table on our own, when the table next to us had a honeymooning couple who I imagine would have liked their own table - we were quite looking forward to the social aspect of dining with others, but it didn't happen.
