If you were on the waitlist to change dining seating

We were listed as main (early) dining on our reservation and when we arrived at the terminal saw that we were allocated late, so went to get it changed and there was no availability, we asked on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day of the cruise and we were stuck with late. Our trip was the 7 night western Caribbean and wasn't in school holidays so we didn't think there would be so many people wanting the early seating.

We were hugely disappointed until the night we had booked Palo (and had booked quite early as we tend to eat early) and then saw the show after dinner and there was a real difference - kids screaming up and down the aisles and it was PACKED full. After that, we decided that eating later for a nicer experience at the show was worth the trade-off. We would choose late dining on future cruises based on this.

We were also quite surprised to be allocated a table on our own, when the table next to us had a honeymooning couple who I imagine would have liked their own table - we were quite looking forward to the social aspect of dining with others, but it didn't happen.

We were waitlisted once (last minute VGT rate) and were not changed. We asked on board and still was not switched.
Turned out to be a very good thing for us. Now we like Second seating much better and that is what we always get now. :)

We are taking our first cruise this March. We were just assigned Second Seating and I didn't worry much about it since my kids are not little (9 and 11), so they don't need to eat at 5:45pm anymore. What are the advantages to the different times? Thank you!

I like the second seating because there is more time in the day before dinner. The earlier show seems quieter to me. I also eat later bfast and lunches so it helps to not eat on top of eating.

I was literally reading all the responses to my question and an email came through! We got switched! Yay!!!! Pixie dust! I'm so happy we won't be eating with our toddler at 8pm!
