If you were caught in a lie here....

or on another board, would you keep posting or leave?

If in a thread you were proved to be "lying", would you explain yourself in the thread? Or would you ignore it? Or would you just disappear? :teeth:

Just wondering because sometimes this happens and everyone (including me) wants to know why the poster isn't coming back, or would like them to at least come back and explain.

Would you come back?

I would keep posting. (ETA: After explaining myself of course)

If I were to lie, there would be a logical reason for it, and hopefully my 'friends' here would understand.

The bigger question, to me, is why lie in the first place?! What does one have to gain on an IMB by lying?!

Hey! My question is the bigger question! ;) :teeth:

Well, I can see someone saying things like that a "friend" was thinking of getting a divorce

I can see that too, but I mean a real lie. About yourself, like saying you are a man when you are a woman. (just an example, I didn't want to use real ones!)

Can't imagine lying, getting caught, and not being embarrassed about it.

But then again - I never lie.

And I'm a 22 year old, leggy blonde who weighs 110.

:rotfl:

I have nothing to hide and no reason to lie.

Someone who didn't know me might be able to find some inconsistencies in what I've posted over the years, but only because they wouldn't know all the facts.

I couldn't lie here (or anywhere for that matter) but really not here because my sister still pops in from time to time and would catch me on it.

This is one thing that I really pride myself on is my honesty. So I wouldn't ever have to deal with that problem. Now saying something I shouldn't of said, now thats another problem I have to deal with a lot. :rotfl2:

I wouldn't lie about the things you mention (man/woman). I really have nothing to hide.

But to put myself in the position you are talking about, the feeling of slithering away without at least trying to reconcile would be worse than facing the music (for me). So, I would stick around and try to explain myself and apologize. I would lose respect for myself if I didn't. It would haunt me. To me, that is much worse than other people not respecting me.

And, in the same turn, if someone came on here and said "Look guys, I sort of embellished my story because of x,y or z...or even because I just wanted my story to seem more important"...or even if they just said "I don't have an excuse, I lied..sorry" ...whatever....if they came clean, I would send out a big hug.

Everyone deserves a second chance especially if they try to right their wrongs, IMO.

I agree. I would love it if some of these posters came back and came clean, whether it was an out and out lie or just an embelishment. That would show alot of guts and integrity. I for one would be interested in what they had to say and why. Would I forgive them? More than likely. I certainly wouldn't hold a grudge.

There are a couple of posters I would love to hear back from.

The latest medical one comes to mind. I would love to hear back and see if she is indeed ok. If her medical problems were real, yet she just embelished some, oh well. I just hope she did get the help and care she needed.

Exactly.

I can't imagine doing that. If I did and got caught I guess I would leave and make a new ID.

I totally agree with you!

I'm not much of a liar in real life. I won't lie & say I've never lied (haha), but I really couldn't live with myself if I told big lies. It could be easy to lie on a message board, but I just couldn't do it. And now that I'm going to be meeting some DISers at WDW this September, I absolutely can't lie! ;)

Who would lie on a Disney board, much less the DIS? :scratchin :lmao:

Aw C'mon Dan, we all know that you are really the aforementioned "22 year old, leggy blonde who weighs 110." You can give up the farce now :lmao:

Many times when you run across someone who is obviously lying on an internet board, the problem runs much deeper than a simple white lie. The person is probably not coming back to clarify or explain because it may very well be she/he believes the lie.

:confused3 Interesting. I would think it more likely that they lie because they get some sort of gratification of it. When that falls thru...start all over again. Anyone past a 6 year old intellect usually knows they are lying, IMO.

Ever heard of a pathological liar? Many have normal intellect, but can't separate the truth from a lie.
