If you shorten your reservation are you at risk for losing it all?

For instance:
If you had a reservation for 8 days and later decided to go for only 6 are you still guaranteed your original 6 or is this now considered a new reservation which must be competed for?

Just yesterday, I changed a 6 night reservation into 4 nights, no problem, points were put into my account. Decided to spend two nights at the new Royal Pacific Hotel at Universal Studios instead. It depends how close to ur reservation time u cancel, and if ur still in a time period in which to bank your points.

You can drop days with no loss of the other days. Just remember the 30 day rule or those points may end up in a holding account. And if you plan to bank the unused points, keep the banking guide lines in mind too. I do this almost every trip, I book 11- 12 days then when I can arrange my air fare, I drop a day or two to match up with the best fare.

Thursday I changed a fourteen night to a thirteen night with no problem. I just told the CM what night I wanted to drop and the points were restored to my account.
BTW the change was made after spending lots of time on these boards and learning what a waste of points it would be to check in on Saturday at ten pm and sleep away 32 points. Now I can bank the points and add them to an Easter stay in 2003!:bounce:

Thanks, I was getting a little paranoid reading the guide book. They only discuss changing reservations (as in resorts) or canceling them altogether.

This is a good question and great answers.

A follow up question or two.

If you shorten the stay, do you get a new confirmation letter? Will it still be the same reservation #?

And will you now have a new date for your "requests" or do you keep the original date?

If you modify your reservation, you will get a new letter showing the modifications and it will still have the original confirmation number. The only way to get a new number would be to completely cancel the old reservation and request a totally different set of dates.

I assume that your "new date" question pertains to when you made the reservation with regard to having requests filled? It's been my understanding that modifying a reservation does not change this date/order - we modified a reservation over the holiday season and I was told on the phone that we had a good chance of getting what we wanted since the original reservation was made so early - your milage may vary.

FFMickey...

Thanks....yes, I was trying to understand if modifying a ressie (as in shortening the stay) would "push you back in line" for the room requests you made.

Sounds like it does not as long as the original ressie is not completely cancelled.

Thanks for the response. And it seems like my mileage varies on a daily basis! :p
