I have reservation for Port Orleans Riverside for this coming Thursday and today I was notified that they are holding a large convention and they want to move us to either Port Orleans French Quarter or Coranado Springs. I really really love port orleans riverside and booked it way back in January. I don't know if I even want to stay at either of these other resorts!!!

Maybe you should tell them that you really don't want to move to any of the other moderates ;) That said I love POFQ! I love the small size, it's so pretty and it's the first bus stop.

Tell them you DO NOT want to switch to another moderate but you might be willing to switch to a deluxe.;) :)

If you are forced into making the choice between French Quarter and Coronado, I would choose French Quarter. Besides being a lovely resort, it is the "sister" resort to Riverside and you'll be able to use all of their facilities. That way you can enjoy some of Riverside too. P.S. If/when you check in to Riverside, ask to be in Building 7 - it's the closest to Riverside.

Tried that. I said I would glady move to the Poly! They said that we don't have to move but if we don't the resort is going to be packed so we might want to consider moving. I want to know exactly WHAT kind of convention is going on there-if it is cheerleaders then I would want out but they can't find out for me until Monday! My daughter is crying because she and I have been reading up and researching everything on POR for 6 months, she doesn't remember staying there last time since she was only 4, and she doesn't want to move.

i would just tell them that this is your "dream" vacation and you do not want to stay at any of the other resorts listed. Ask for other options.

I am sorry to hear this. It is hard to have your heart set on something and then have it taken away. I did not know that POR did conventions. I know the CSR does because that is the resort we stay at every year despite the conventions. It is a lovely resort. I am sure wherever you end up, you will have a good time. After all, you will be at Disney.

I wouldn't move then. POR is a LARGE resort with a HUGE, wonderful food court. I agree that cheer leaders would suck butt, but I doubt you would be affected, seriously.

They probably just overbooked and are looking to keep that party in ONE resort. I bet PORFQ would be just as packed. You just stay right where you are at and ENJOY that food court and the lovely grounds.

If they won't upgrade, I wouldn't move, that resort is big enough for all of you guys.:thumbsup2

I say stay at POFQ--it's beautiful and a short boat ride or walk to POR.
We've stayed at both POR and CSR and preferred the PO Resorts.
POFQ is very Charming--think of a mix of New Orleans and the
Paris from the "Aristocrates" movie. That's why we will be staying at
POFQ on our upcoming WDW trip. Plus I love the Boat Ride to DTD.

If it were me, I would choose Coronado Springs-it looks so pretty and has upgraded amenities similar to the Deluxes.

But, since you said you love POR, I would say your better off with POFQ because it's pretty much attached to POR, so you will still be able to enjoy POR's grounds and food court. POR & POFQ might also share pools, but I'm not sure.

Are they saying they would like you to move, or are they saying you must move?

Maybe you can be compensated for your move? You said they won't upgrade you to a deluxe, but maybe they could knock 10% off your bill, or 1 night free, or maybe a nice gift certificate or other resort credit for your troubles. I don't think that would be unreasonable. You could make this work for you.:thumbsup2

Tell them that you booked back in January and that POR is where you want to be. Period. Then wait and see if they do upgrade you, or if they do offer you an incentive to move. If they don't, then you haven't lost a thing 'cause you'll still be where you want to be :)

Best of luck and some pixiedust: for you!

I would nicely tell them that you would perfer to stay where you are and that you would agree to move to a Deluxe for the same price. And then I would hang up and get on with your vacation. They are giving you nothing and it's not worth changing your plans. (Failure to plan on thier part should not be a crisis on your side)

(This is another point where Disney Resorts don't "get it". If you screw up then it's up to you to make it better not just "ok")

I have stayed at resorts with the Cheerleaders, it was NOT the big deal it's made out to be on here. (Actually the only reason I KNEW they are were there was that when I went out for my jog they were out practicing their stunts. These kids were great. Most of the noise I heard was from the family whose brat thought the "porch area" was a place you RAN BACK AND FORTH SCREAMING LOUDLY!)

IMHO the conventions at CSR are worse. Yes, folks 1,000 men on expense report drinking can be MUCH more difficult to deal with then teenage girls or pop warner football teams!

I prefer POFQ over POR anyway, so I'd switch. But if the convention is really huge then the buses at those two resorts might be a nightmare. :worried: So then it might be better to go to CSR. But then again that might be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire because CSR does tons of conventions. It's a tough choice! I hope it all works out for you.

The nice thing here is that POR is a sister resort so you can visit and use the pool anytime, but escape the convention. I love the atmosphere being on the river and being able to take the boat to DTD. Riverside and French Quarter are my favorite resorts. They are isolated and you feel like you can relax out side the parks but still have Disney Magic.

This is what I was thinking too. Tough decision. I loved POR when I stayed there last year. I wish they'd just let you upgrade to a deluxe.

I've stayed at CBR while there was a cheerleader convention going on, and it did not impact my vacation at all. So in the end, if I had to make a decision based on what your current options are, I'd probably just stay at POR and hope for the best. (Although I don't think you should have to go into a vacation right from the start "hoping for the best". :worried: )

Please keep us updated :)

My vote is to stay at POR. We've stayed there between Christmas and New Years many times. I dare say as crowded as it gets. As a PP said, it is a huge resort with a great food court. Unless they pony up with deluxe reservations I'd stay put!

I'd move. A resort packed with convention goers is not going to be the same experience you had when you fell in love with the place. Of your two choices, I'd pick POFQ because its a similar theme.
