i went twice to disney's town of Celebration.

You have to go and see it to believe it.

it is like the stepford wives - the houses are IMMACULATE. (sp)

It is almost like a toy town.

I was talking to people that lived there - when you move in you get a list of 'rules' - you are not allowed to have any trash in the front garden - it has to be out back where no one can see it.
If your grass is too long then they come and cut it for you.

it is def. a mad place!

the little town square is nice - a few shops around a lake with baby alligators in it (although i didn't see any). there are rocking chairs where you can sit around the lake and chill.

There is a wicked ice cream parlour too - where it is nice to sit in the air con and have an ice cream.

the hotel of celebration is amazing too.

so if you have a spare afternoon or want a rest from the theme parks - go visit - and i promise that they will let you leave again!!

We have a housing estate near us (not going to name it, just in case!!) and they are not allowed caravans ,or vans up your drive or to hang their washing out on a sunday. CELEBRATION II :rotfl2:

Oh I want to live here :)

There is a great book called Celebration, U.S.A: Living in Disney's Brave New Town by
Douglas Frantz, Catherine Collins which makes interesting reading :thumbsup2

Celebration sound really good - though I`ve never visited! Thanks for the tip.

I have read a couple of books on Celebration - Kaylee's above and another I have forgotten the name of. But I have never been there!! (Except once when we got very lost coming out of WDW and ended up there which doesn't count)

Definitely going next time (but I said that the last two trips too so hopefully we do make it this time ;) )

I remember seeing a progamme about it. Looked liked desperate housewives .

We attended a timeshare presentation once and had to take the incentive cheque to the bank in Celebration :sunny:

We wandered around a little while and intend to go back for an hour or two on our next trip :thumbsup2

Very 'Stepford Wives' ;)

Has anyone seen the film 'Christmas with the Kranks' where everyone has to have an inflatable 'Frosty the Snowman' on their house at Christmas.............? :rotfl:

We thought it was very creepy and just like Stepford.

Our estate doesn't allow any business vehicles to be parked on the driveways overnight and boats/caravans must be parked on the boat/caravan space behind gates. No bonfires etc The houses are freehold but it's written into the deeds - I think it makes for a neat tidy environment.

I keep meaning for us to visit here sometime. Hopefully next year :) Are there any nice cafes/restaurants/shops?

:wizard:

there are lots of cafes and shops (mostly gift type shops..and not that cheap!)
we love celebration, but it is a bit spooky.. they even play piped music in the streets!

and there is a WISTERIA LANE there.. I found it and took a picture!
My dream house is in Celebration too! Its only about $1.6m :rotfl:

Whilst I think that Celebration is particularly clear about what you can and cant do to your house, many housing developments have stipulations in the deeds. We have a lot here - no caravans, no fences in the front garden, no business vehicles etc etc..
no one takes a blind bit of notice mind you! ;)

We like Celebration and we're going to be staying at the Celebration Hotel for one night ahead of our cruise in 6 weeks time. I'm really looking forward to it - I've always wanted an excuse to stay there. And it's owned by the Kessler Collection - their Mansion on Forsyth Park in Savannah is one of the most incredible hotels I've ever stayed at.

I know some of the restrictions sound a bit crazy, but actually most of them make a lot of sense. The 'no rubbish out front' should be law everywhere! Properties in the UK all have restrictive convenants, but no-one reinforces them. For example, on our estate, you're not supposed to park your car on the road, but I'll bet most people don't even know about it. It's nowhere near as bad on our estate as on lots of others I've been on (all the houses have space for 3 cars - a requirement of the planning committee), but at times it can be like a slalom.

I am meeting a friend there in October who works in Celebration, I am so looking forward to seeing it. :goodvibes

Kaylee - I have that book as well. :)

We had a drive around there last year, I thought it was absolutely beautiful and if was going to move to Orlando I'd love to live there (not that we'd ever be allowed in if we could afford it, they vet all prospective owners very harshly.) I think if you looked at the rules, most wouldn't be that restrictive and would just make for a nicer environment. No trash in the front garden/painting your house neon green/parking unsightly logo emblazoned vans in the street - I doubt very many people would really mind living by those! Plus I like the idea of having new owners vetted and the threat of eviction of you're a bad neighbour - we have bad neighbours on one side and I'd love to think the estate would kick them out for being a nuisance!

We wanted to go there last time. I remember watching a programme on BBC1 about Brits living in Florida, I am sure they featured the english tea cafe that julieannbabe mentioned. Unfortunately, the only time we had chance to go was after we had been horseriding and I think we might have been a bit too stinky :snooty: :scared: ;) :lmao: :lmao:

Hopefully we will get there next time, I would love to have a relax on one of those rocking chairs! :goodvibes

If you are in Orlando at Christmas/New Year holiday, go and see Celebration. It is so cool. It 'snows' 3 or 4 times every night. Oh, and when we were there, the snow was scented!!!! The children get to play, there are characters (not Disney, but snowmen) to have photos taken with.

When the children are all wet with the suds, of course the shops are open for you to buy new sweatshirts, trousers, etc. Disney never miss a chance.
