Please leave the baby at home.

I went to see POTC 2 tonight and yep some couple brought their baby along. The child would cry, and did one of the parents walk out with the child? NO! :furious: What did they do you might ask. Bounce the baby off their knee, so he/she made ba ba ba ba type of noises. They gave the baby a toy to play with and he/she would toss it to the ground. Then the parents would fire up their small flashlight to find the toy. ( That was not distracting at all. :rolleyes1 )

If you can't find a sitter wait for video. If you can't afford a sitter then you should not be spending your money at the movies. You may want to see a movie so bad, but you are also ruining the movie for a lot of other people. :guilty:

Ok I feel better now.. Rant over

I agree completely. A few months ago I went to a movie that started well after midnight, and lo and behold, what did I hear? A baby! I figured at that time I'd be in the clear. I didn't think babies watched horror movies late. :confused3

I totally agree. It drives me up the wall when babies are brought in. Dont mind as much if the baby is quiet, but when they cry, even if the parents take the baby out, its too late. I also dont like young children who are way to young to see the movie there just because the parents take them. Saw POTC yesterday and there was a kid about 5 or 6 who kept crying because he was scared, and no one took him out.

It happened the last time we were at the theater too but we were fortunate that the baby was at the other side of the theater.

I'm starting to think that patrons should make it a habit to complain. If enough theaters have to give refunds then maybe they'll start cracking down on the noisy people.

They should have special BABY Theaters...with cribs and stuff.. and only peopel with Babies can view movies in them...It could be like the "best movie of the week" or a special feature kinda like a drive in mentality.

Actually, there are a few theatres in my area that have movies for Moms once a week in the morning where you can bring babies/toddlers. The volume is not as loud and the lights are dimmed, but not off. I do have to admit though that I have taken all three of my kids with me to the movies when they were babies. I have been lucky because none of them have ever made a peep, they usually just fall asleep. If they were'nt, I would not bring them so as not to disturb other people. We usually go to matinees when the theatres are not crowded. Sometimes, it's nice to see a movie in a theatre that is not animated! :sunny:

Did you complain to the manager? I would have.

Actually there are theatres that do that. There are a few theatres that will play new movies (G, PG and PG-13) for parents of young kids. Their children are welcome and usually free to get in, the lights are merely dimmed in the theatre vs. darkening completely and the sound is turned down as to not frighten the kids. You can usually find theatres that do this in the monthly family activities booklet, or even just calling around.

It's too bad these parents are taking advantage of what is offered for them.

OP, sorry you had a less than fun experience at the movies, I would have complained.

ETA:: PrincessMommy2, you were much quicker than me :p

People bringing babies to the movies is one of the reasons I very rarely go to the movies anymore.

This is one of my peeves! My DH nephew takes his baby to the movies, and has done so since the little one was 1 week old. I cannot understand how he would subject his little one to the noise, but that is his issue. Now the baby is 10 months old, and is like a little puppy. He will not sit still, sings at the top of his voice when he is happy, and can cry at an amazing volume when he is not. Fine and amusing in your home, but if I had paid for tickets, and for snacks, a rare treat for us, I would be livid.

I would have too, and demanded my money back. If enough people show outrage towards this kind of nonsense, maybe the theaters will put an end to it.

Yeah, leave them at home....but if you DO bring kids......please tell them to STOP kicking the back of my seat!!!

I can't believe how many times I've had to turn around and ask a parent to please have their child stop kicking my seat. It's one of those things that really annoys me. I'll ask dh "do you feel that?" and he says "huh? what?" Grrrrr. I know, that as an adult, you paid to see the movie and you're engrossed in it, but remember you're a PARENT and you need to pay attention to what your child is doing!

vent over.

Babies at movie theaters drive me nuts! Even if the baby isn't crying I know that at some point its going to and the parents are probably just going to dangle a toy in front of it rather than take the baby outside. Then the toy makes even more noise on top of the crying. I totally agree if you don't have the money for a sitter you don't have the money to go to the movies.

I started a thread a while about similar to this: All of the distractions in a movie theater. I don't have a problem with people bringing their baby in the theater- I've been in several movies where the babies are good as gold and you don't hear a peep out of them. BUT the second that they start whining and crying you TAKE THEM OUT of the movie. That's just my opinion. :)

I don't understand the need to take a baby into a movie either. Especially one that starts late in the night. The poor baby doesn't need to be subjected to the loud noises. And how can you enjoy a movie when you are tending (hopefully) to this crying baby?

I completely agree! I don't understand how parents think it's *cute* when their kid acts like that. It's not cute, its downright rude.

When I went to see POTC2, two teen girls sat next to me. They talked for the beginning of the movie in these loud screetchy voices. They even asked DBF if he was a "rabid fan" of the movie. :lmao: Thank goodness one of them fell asleep and the other shut up about 30 minutes in. But the one who stayed awake kept checking her cell phone every like 20 minutes. It gets really annoying to see this bright light constantly apprearing next to you.

They do have these, it is call YOUR HOME. If you can't leave your child with a babysitter for 2 hours to go to a movie, wait for it to come out on DVD and rent it so your crying baby will only disturb you and not the other 300 people that paid $100 to see the movie.

One of the theaters aound us used to have 'cry rooms' at the back of the theater. Those were great. The front wall was glass, but had some kind of coating on it so that the light in the cry room could be dimmed or even fully on and it wouldn't show in the theater. They were well soundproofed and the people in the room had control of the volume in that room so they could watch the movie at a volume that didn't scare the kids. The only door to it was off the hallway, so the people in the cry room could come and go without bothering anyone else.
They had one of those in the back of each theater, but when they renovated to 'stadium seating' their cry rooms were taken out.
