OK, I am bored. Last night before heading home and nothing I like to watch on TV. I "stole" this thread from another forum.

Name a city and the place you must eat at if you get there.

I will start:

( since I was just in Asheville )

If you ever get to Asheville you MUST eat at Tupelo Honey Cafe. Not because the food is awesome ( and it is really good ), but becasue EVERYBODY eats there, and it is quite a place to people watch.

( Don't go if women with honkin' big tatoos bother you. Almost every waitress had a great big tatoo, and some of them were actually were COVERED in tatoos. I don't "get" why a woman would do that, but hey, it is their body, and it doesn't "bother" me )

Crabby Bill's at St.Pete Beach - awesome! Then a nice walk on Passe A Grille's beach - ohhhhhhhh - wish I was there now....

If you ever go to ELGIN, ILL. (or Crystal Lake), you must eat at NICK'S PIZZA & PUB. I manage a national pizza magazine, and this place is TOPS in terms of decor and food quality. You could eat off the floor in the kitchen!!!

If you ever get to Charleston, SC you must eat at Gilligan's Seafood Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant. They use fresh seafood right off the boat!

One more for the fancy folks!

If you ever get to CHARLESTON, SC you must eat at PENINSULA GRILL, downtown. Posh!

Been there, done that! :thumbsup2

New Orleans - can't stop at one

Commander's Palace (talked to Lally Brennan today, should have soft re-opening in August, formal re-opening in October)

Cafe Adelaide (at Loew's Hotel) - owned by same branch of Brennan's that own Commander's

Cafe du Monde or Morning Call for cafe au lait and beignets

Frankie and Johnny's - neighborhood dive with great food

Galatoire's - especially Friday at lunch

Restaurant August - chef John Besh just named top restaurant chef for the entire U.S. by James Beard Assn. in NY last Saturday

Okay - that New Orleans one was just too easy and probably didn't tell you anything that most of you didn't already know.

Here's some off the beaten path:
Little Rock, AR - Brave New Restaurant, chef Peter Brave grows his own vegetables and has interest in a shrimp business, always the freshest ingredients by a truly inspired chef.

Foster City, CA - Turtle Bay Grill and Seafood, bet you don't even know where the city is. It's about 10 miles south of the San Francisco Airport.

San Mateo, CA - 231 Ellsworth, voted one of the top 20 restaurants in Northern California.

Little Italy in NYC, Cafe Napoli
Newport Beach Ca, Villa Nova

Really? In the Safeway shopping center on Hillsdale? I never would have thought.

My do not miss is - Bistro Jeanty in Yountville (Napa).

If you are in Washington DC you must eat at Philomena in Georgetown. Beautiful handmade pasta, exceptional service, fantastic flavors. :goodvibes

Just BEFORE New Orleans, at Manchac (exit 15 on I-55 South), be sure to stop at Middendorf's for the best gumbo and thin-fried catfish you will ever taste!

Washington DC - Two Amy's ..only theee best pizza place in town, and probably south of the Mason Dixon!

Still in DC? A Nanny Burger and Nanny O'Briens. and check out the world's largest beer list at the Brickskeller, it's really amazing and I don't even drink beer!

Rappahannock county, Va - The Epcicurious Cow Icredible quesadillas and hand cut fries.. Way off the beaten path, but well worth the trip!

Venice, CA - Hal's Bar and Grill Some of the most unbelievable food I have ever had.

Jacksonville, FL - Sticky Fingers BBQ

Can you tell I'm a foodie!?

I have a couple:

Wichita KS Ty's Diner. Get there early after 11:45am line is out the door onto the sidewalk. Serves lunch only. Handcut french fries and the best cheeseburgers w/grilled onions ever!!!

Topeka Ks Boss Hawg's BBQ. The most wonderful babyback ribs ever!!!!

If you ever get to OCEAN CITY, NJ, you MUST eat at MACK & MANCO'S PIZZA. It's on the boardwalk near 12th St. and another down near 7th St. They need two pizza joints, as the pizza is that good! Fresh homemade sauce & lots of cheese on a cracker thin crust. :thumbsup2 :cool1:

IF you ever get to Newport News, Va, you must eat at Joe and Mimma's on J.Clyde Morris Blvd. It's an Italian restaurant. He is Sicilian and has some really good food. If you just like subs, they are reasonably priced and you could easily split a sub and fries with someone else. The steak sub is to die for.

If you ever get to Naples, for pizza, you must try a place called Pizza in Piazza. It's a little pizza place (by the slice). To get there, start at the Teatro di San Carlo, go around the side of the building to the Piazza and walk to the small park. The pizza place is the 1st business on the right. I've had pizza from many places around here and this one has the best cheese next to a place I had pizza in Rome (smoked cheese). It was the outside restaurant attached to the Park Rossa Hotel (or something like that name......name of hotel and name of street similar).

In Florence, SC, I always enjoyed John's Drive-in for a greasy spoon style cooking. I always liked their cheeseburger boxes. Doesn't do me much good to have a craving for that now

In Kent, WA, we liked HD Hotspurs. Well, that was over 25 years ago. Don't know how they are now. It was BBQ style food. As a kid, I remembered they had something like a 4 alarm whatever and if someone ordered it, they threw on a fire siren. It was great.

Waynesboro, Va has a restaurant on Main St called Peck's. Good home cooked food. Very small building. Not sure about now, but they used to have some of the best grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. BBQ style food too. They also had cherry Cokes with real cherry syrup.
