would you want to eat when you reached your destination?

My best friend here at the lake and her DH will be arriving for the summer early or late Sunday evening.. They will have driven straight through from Florida and I'd like to have something ready for them to eat when they arrive..

If it was early in the evening, what would you want?

And how about if it was later - just before bedtime?

what ever it is I would want it right away

Well, personally I would want fresh rainbow trout, fresh veggies and some of my aunt's wonderful fruit tarts she makes from fresh picked berries but that's what I always had as my first meal when arriving at my Grandparents in upstate NY.
I am sure she will be grateful for anything you cook so long as it is fast and plentiful

not sur e what to suggest since i dont know your friends, betting something light and easy to digest, something that doesnt cause heartburn or gas,,lol,, what do they usually like to eat? if they are meat and potatoes , then you dont wanna serve steamed veggie platter,, or if they eat only full meals dont serve a snack tray
but then if they are sammich and beer serve a deli tray of course that could be really turned towards what ever they like to eat. sandwich tray, veggie tray, snacks tray, all w ould be nice, we drove into sis in laws house in fla last summer and she alnmost as soon as we got in door was draging us out to a steak house it was the worst meal of teh trip. tehn on way back home we drove from jax fla to hattiesburg miss and stopped at a good friends house,, he served us hamburgers and fries from the truck stop his wife works at and we loved it.

I would like a COLD beer (or 4 :drinking1 ) and some appetizers. I would like a bit of time to unwind and acclimate to the surroundings before I had to sit down and have a meal.

Soon after arrival, I would like something from the grill. My favorite of late is either steak or chicken with a BUNCH of grilled veggies--tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, onions, mushrooms, whatever looks good in the produce aisle that morning. A nice crusty loaf of bread, sliced, buttered and toasted on the grill would be a great compliment to the meal.

(If you have leftovers, you could puree the tomatoes, cut up the meat and veggies and toss with pasta, parmesean and fresh basil. This tastes awesome the next day. )

For dessert I would serve sorbet and a box of chocolates.

Knowing me, I'd head for the first IHOP, Wendy's, or Denny's. :)

You would have a looooooong drive! We're way up here in the mountains in a little hick town that has exactly two "General Stores" - LOL... ;)

It's hard for me to decide - because I'm rarely if ever hungry - and I would just want to go to bed - LOL!

Neither are picky eaters though - love their fruits and veggies - etc. - so I'm thinking something "light"..

I might make up a batch of muffins for their breakfast the next day too because they won't really have any groceries up here until they open up their place, get the fridge running, get the water turned on, etc..

I can't WAIT to see them! (Well - actually "her" - "he" tends to get on my nerves, but they're a package deal - LOL.. :) )
