how many hours does it take you - please?.....

Hi Kallison....you can go to this really cool website that gives you the miles, times, hours, what highways to take and even gas prices along your trip....

www.freetrip.com

Have fun!

16 hours or less, depending on stops. We drive from RI and it takes about 24 for us, with 2 meal stops. We usually can get into Virginia in 8-9 hours. Try to plan to go through Baltimore and the Beltway during the late evening or early morning hours...much less traffic.

Julibelle -- thanks for that cool website.

Hi Kallison!

I too live in Bucks County. PA and have driven to WDW on several occasions. We break the trip up into two parts. We drive to Hilton Head, SC (where we have family), this takes 12 hours. Then the following day or two we drive onto Orlando, a 5 hour drive from Hilton Head. Therefore, I guess you could say it is a 17 hour drive. My parents have driven straight through and it took them 17 hours.

Any further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

I'm from Philly also (not too far from Bensalem) and we opted for the Auto Train. You might want to consider it as an alternative to driving. It will take a little longer, but there's no wear & tear on your car, and the train offers a nice dinner, a first run movie, and a breakfast. You'll get to Orlando around 8:30 am.

Kim&Chris ...

We too have taken the Auto Train on our last several visits and definitely think it's the way to go.

Kallison .. if you need more info on the Auto Train ask away.

We unexpectedly drove home on Sept 12, 2001. We haven't drive in the past 4 years...We were pleased that the drive only took 16 hours. Though we did break it up into 7 hours then 9 hours. We use to drive straight through but chose not to do it this time. It makes you feel a little more refreshed at the end...

When I was a little girl and lived in NJ we came to WDW for the first time on the Auto Train. It was wonderful (this was in 74). I would definitely recommend it. Now I live in S FL, so it's about a 3 hr drive...

about the Autotrain. We are considering it for our trip in JUne. I have called and got the prices for the cabins and also for the coach. What is everyone's thoughts on this and experiences? We always fly, but this year besides our fears, we were thinking it would be nice to save some money and bring our car along so we don't have to rent one for two weeks. Two weeks of rentals can be pretty expensive for a minivan which we need. Thanks for your help.

Kallison, I think it's somewhere between 16 and 18 hours, though I've never personally done it. Is the Amtrak a viable possibility for you? Out of Philly?

Auto-Train is a wonderful way to travel. When you consider the cost of meals (including with your train ticket) and a motel stop for the night, the train really isn't that much more expensive, and it saves 900 miles of driving. I returned from WDW on this train back in July, so if you have any questions please ask. You may want to check the website listed below for Amtrak travel hints & tips.

Also, call Amtrak and have them send you two things: the Amtrak 2001 travel planner and a copy of the national timetable (train schedules). This will answer a ton of questions you might not think to ask until you get on board! It also will help you decide if you want to take Auto-Train, which, again, I highly recommend.

I don't know what type of sleeper room you were quoted a price for, or what the makip of your group is, but since you need a minivan you might want to check on the family bedroom. This will accomodate two adults and two kids (otherwise you would need two rooms). The family room is also closer to the shower and restrooms than the economy rooms are.

Kallison,
Amtrak also operates conventional trains between New York, Philadelphia, and Orlando/Kissimmee. These don't take your car, but you can board closer to home.
