If you downgrade your category, is there a charge

If you downgrade your category, does DCL charge you a penalty or do they cancel and rebook the reservation. Thinking about doing this, but am wondering if I'll lose my early booking saving. If I dropped down 5 categories would they just deduct $1,000?
Anyone ever do this?

You would actually be cancelling and rebooking, so it would be subject to the current pricing at the time you do that. Check it carefully before cancelling what you have for both availability and pricing.

Wanted to let you know that we'd booked a category 6 (on the 3-day Wonder) and husband thought we should not have verandah because of 3 yr. old DD. We changed to a category 8 with a porthole and received a $200 refund. This was only about 3 wks. before sailing. The funny thing is that he decided he'd still be nervous about sailing, so I substituted him with my Mom. When we did that we had the tickets re-issued, and Disney bumped us back up to a category 8!

Maybe you'll have similar luck.

For a stateroom with 2 adults and one child, to move down from a category 6 verandah room to a category 8 porthole room, it is not much to get back $200. For $60+ pp more to have a verandah would have been well worth it IMHO. I would imagine, had the downgrade been done more in advance rather than 3 weeks prior to sailing, the difference in price and hence the savings, would have been greater.

Has anyone ever offered to accept a downgrade at the port? I'm traveling on a full 7 day cruise in a Cat 9. I have sailed catagories 5-11 before.

I like the better catagories, but if Disney offered me an appropriate onboard credit (?$500 for a cat 9 to 11 switch?) I'd be glad to make someone else happy (who was claustrophobic in an inside cabin or just wanted to upgrade to a porthole).
