If you could live anywhere in US, where would you go?

I've lived in the same town all my life and just absolutely cannot imagine living anywhere else. It would break my heart if we had to leave here. Oh my, I'm crying already.

Anyway, DH is really unhappy with his job and would love to do something else. There is nothing else here that would come close to matching his salary that he could do. What he's interested in, he really could go anywhere - salary is the same no matter where you're at - so just out of curiosity, what do you think would be the least expensive, great place to raise kids - NO MAJOR SNOW!!! (I love my beaches!) - best bang for the buck kinda place?

Guess I should also add - Florida is out. We're here now, and I love it!! But, the chances of him getting a spot in Florida would be slim to none since all of the people close to retirement usually transfer here.

Hawaii without a doubt. I know stuff cost more over there, but I would give that up for the weather anyday.

Winterville, NC

Seriously, it's the only place i can find to afford.

Oops - Okay, Hawaii and Alaska would be out with this job. Would be beautiful though!

How do you go about finding out cost of living, schools, house prices, etc??

Just looked them up on Realtor.com out of curiosity. The homes seem to be going for about what they do here - $100 a square foot. SIGH! Or maybe, that's a good thing. "See honey, we are in one of the lowest priced areas."

We're about to begin building a new home, and I refuse to put my heart and Lord knows how many hours into building this home to just turn around and sell it and move. If he's serious, I'd rather just not start and sell the land.

Lately I find myself wanting to go back to the Outer Banks. I have family ties all the way back to the 1700's pirate: There's something about that wild place.

although, practically speaking, it's a very expensive place to live, the medical care is sketchy at best, and the job market is difficult. So unless I can retire there, it'll be a no go.

We'll probably end up either in the North Georgia mountains or in Florida, on the Gulf side of Ocala.

Celebration, FL (Of course)!! :thumbsup2 :sunny:  :cheer2: :yay:

2 1/2 weeks until FL SUNSHINE!!!
YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe :cheer2:

Well, for me...Little Rock, AR or San Antonio, TX.
Housing prices are reasonable in both areas. My family is in Arkansas. Manu Ginobli is in San Antonio... :lovestruc need I say more?

i have heard that the southwest is pretty affordable. i know i'd love that weather....new mexico is a place i have always wanted to go. beautiful! :sunny:

Anywhere closer to Florida than I am right now :( I love my town but it's to far away from my second home.

If I didn't have to worry about jobs whatsoever, I'd move to northern Arkansas. I just love the beauty, the people and everything else about the area.

Being realistic though, I'd say somewhere in and around Houston, San Antonio and Austin would be nicest for me. I used to live in Houston and miss it a lot and San Antonio and Austin are both super places. The Dallas area has really been bad for us though. :(

Moved to AZ from CT for school and I'm really loving it here. The weather is gorgeous every single day. The only downside is no beaches, but you've got mexico and CA for that i guess. We're doing Hawaii for Spring Break so we'll get enough of the beach then.

No idea....All I know is that I'm molding and freezing my patootie off up her in the northwest!!!

I'd live in sandiego if it was affordable

Another vote for Texas, the housing market is much more reasonable. I am looking to buy a house right now in Houston, the area where we are looking leans a little more toward upper middle class, mainly because of the great school district, the homes are selling for around $80.00 a square foot. That's a huge savings when you add up $20.00 per square foot!
