If you could design a resort?

How about a ski lodge to go along with Blizzard Beach?

Or a Magic Kingdom hotel....they could have different buildings or rooms themed to all the different areas or rides of Magic Kingdom....you could stay in Space Mountain, or Splash Mountain, and the pool could be the castle in the middle of the resort...may want to request not to stay in the 'Small World' room though.

I would design a DVC resort in the location where the Venetian was originally meant to be. The area of land between the TTC and the CR.. It would be on the monorail and offer luxury accomodations overlooking Seven Seas Lagoon. I would probably theme it in a Fantasyland type motif since the Main Street motif (Grand Floridian) has been done, and it would have Grand Villas in the turrets toward the top. I imagine a DVC Resort on the monorail would probably sell out in less than a year.

I would like to see a resort based on the Disney princesses.

We'd have a problem with this (as I think many mixed sex families would)..no way would our grandson want to stay in a "princess" area of a hotel...and no way would our granddaugher want to stay in a villian area of a motel. They would both love these places (her in one place, him in another)..but I can't get two rooms, in different sections. Maybe when Dis did their survey's about new hotels, this was somthing that came up.

The classics are a nice, but they are outgrowing them (once they become a grown up like me, they'll go back to loving them again!). They are excited knowing as soon as they open up PC to ressie's we'll be making our next move on a stay there.

Off topic, we went to a Fairfield timeshare presentation up here int he chilly northeast, and got to see the Bonnet Creek Resort in the midst of Disney...that will certainly entice us to stay off propertyl It's just beautiful. The beautiful pool looked a lot like Stormalong Bay. The rooms are beautiful. And it's right there at Disney..on that land that Disney didn't think they needed!

This is fun...

We loved the Luxor (Egyptian pyramid for those who don't know) in Vegas, but couldn't help commenting on how awesome such a theme would be in Disney.

Also love the Atlantis theme.

I would really love to see a space themed resort, but that might not be the best idea right now.

I would go for the Classic theme...Jungle Book, Villains, Princesses. A castle would be nice as well. AND the nations thing is a concept........so many ideas!!! I would have to try them all.

There are so many themes I'd love to see happen...

But for once... I'd like the Imagineers to actually take transportation into account when designing the resort. yeah, it'd be nice to have something other than a bus... doesnt need to be a monorail or boat... but something innovative. But even if it is a bus, some thought needs to go into it. Unfortunetly, often times we're an afterthought... (or not even a thought at all)

For example... Old Key West was NOT designed to accomodate a bus. Port Orleans bus stops aren't bus friendly either. Both at the Boardwalk, and AK Lodge, they made the roof too short, and busses were either hitting the roof or pulling in too far from the curb. They had to extend out the curb in order to fix the problem. Of course now that means guests get rained on. Polynesian doesnt even have a real bus stop... although, 30 years later, they're going to get one.

DMRick- just curious.
What's the difference in oh say..... Touchdown building at ASSp?

I see no difference. My daughter isn't going to be thrilled with that building but my son will LOVE it. :)

What's the difference in oh say..... Touchdown building at ASSp?

10 year old Granddaughter is a Cheerleader, and loves football (and unless PC is open when her group comes down, that is where they are staying)! Sports is different than Villians for her, and Princess for him. Sports is big in both their lives. However, if the buliding was actually just a "girls" cheerleading building, I don't think the 8 year old boy would be happy..unless told that was the only way we were going to Disney. I also think he would be better with a cheer building, than he would be with a Princess building.

I think a resort based on the Princess movies would be suitable for all genders. There are male characters in all of those movies. There's the Beast, the Dwarfs, Prince Phillip, Prince Charming as well as other things boys would be interested in. My son and husband both enjoy the Disney princess movies and would prefer to stay in a resort with that theme rather than a resort such as All Star Sports. There's nothing feminine about castles and happy endings. My daughter loves cheerleading but I don't recall there being a cheerleading building at ASSP. Did I miss the figure skating building as well? How about the field hockey section? Do you see where I'm going with this...not all resorts are for everyone.

...a pest, but could we stick to the original thread?? Let's see some MORE great ideas.....!!

How about this: Greek ruins, the Parthenon, Greek Goddesses and Gods....er, maybe this could be the next "country" at Epcot!

My son and husband both enjoy the Disney princess movies

I misunderstood..I though many were asking for a Princess resort..if based on both genders, then it may work. I really can't recall my grandsons asking me to put in the "Princess" movies when visiting though (such as Cinderella).

I would prefer a classic Disney theme resort..however I'm betting that appeals to the youngest of Disney guests, and right now Disney is having trouble filling the hotels they have with those themes.

I would like to see more of the value classic theme resorts built to hold larger families.

How about something with a circus theme ..... Lots of bright colors and tent-like canopies ..calliope music, cotton candy, etc

Wouldn't it make for a great pool area as well!

Maybe Dumbo could even be tied in somehow.

lots of great ideas so far. I'm really leaning toward the classic disney characters theme. I also really like the asian/pacific theme as well.

I would actually design two different resorts.

1. A value resort that would sleep up to five via a double, a day bed, and a set of bunk beds. Each room would also have a mini-fridge and coffee maker. It would be priced to be more expensive than the AS but less expensive than POR. It would be Disney themed, but not garish like AS and PC. The theming would be more subtle. The room frunishings would be very basic like at AS, except that the sink area would be split with one side holding the sink and the other side having a shelf for the coffee maker and under the shelf would be the minifridge. The rooms would be about the size of the moderates. The resort amenities would be like those at AS, pool, playground, foodcourt.

2. An ultra-deluxe. This would be a small (for WDW) hotel with 400-600 rooms and suites. Service would be superb from arrival to departure. Rooms would be about the size of those at the Poly or GF, maybe a touch larger. Disney themeing would be very subtle, but would be there (think bubbles in the bedspreads at the BC ;) ). There would be a wing that was limited to adults and children 16 and up. There would be a selection of rooms with king beds (non-handicapped) which could be specifically reserved in advance. Each room would offer either a Japanese style soaking tub or a jacuzzi tub as well as a full sized shower. No rooms would have a "bad" view, although some views might be more sought after (and more expensive). But there would be no views of dumpsters, parking lots, or rooftops. All rooms would have a full balcony. Every room would be a concierge room, with blocks of rooms grouped together and a lounge and staff for each block. There would be a very small, very limited food court, as well as three full service restaurants. One restaurant would be a casual family type place (along the lines of Boatwrights or Beaches and Cream), one would be more of a moderate (Kona Cafe, Yacht Club Galley), and the third would be an upscale reastaurant with an enforced dress code (Citrico's, California Grill).

I think some sort of haunted theme with the villains, Hollywood Tower hotel, Haunted Mansion, etc. would be really cool.

Going a step further on the classic idea. What if they made the resort and rooms as if you are stepping into the story book (vs. oversized decore and such) They could have a castle wing (not gender specific just story specific), pooh wing, peter pan wing, etc. Example: In the castle wing the walls, furniture, etc. would look like you were in a castle. Kind of like when you walk into Minnie's house at Toon Town, it looks as if you walked into the cartoon and all around you is what you imagine the characters see. And you can touch what you imagine the characters touch.

You could actually tell your kids you are going to tinker bell's house or whatever.

I'm not sure if this acurately describes my vision but I tried. :0)

I actually have two ideas. Each on the opposite side of the spectrum.

1. Kids resorts.
A resort with everything geared toward families with children. Kid friendly rooms with bunk beds and playstations.
Kids resorts. Maybe called Disney’s Never Never Land Resort. A resort with everything geared toward families with children. It starts with a special check in area, where you are greeted upon your arrival with characters.

· Kid friendly rooms with bunk beds and playstations.
· Character breakfast, lunch and dinner.
· All day supervised activities for kids.
· Movie theater that shows Disney movies all day long.
· Huge themed pool area and play ground.

2. Lovers resort.
I don’t have a name for this resort. This would be an adults only resort.

· All concierge resort.
· All king bedrooms with soaking tubs, bathrobes.
· In room dining.
· Fancy candle light dinners and dancing.
· Big lake with row boats, canoes and walking and biking trails.
· Plenty of places for couples to cozy up. Two person hammocks around the lake.

Just a couple of ideas.

MCR5298,
I really like both of those ideas. I think you kids oriented resort could well fit in with my classic disney character resort idea. How magical would that resort be? If Disney has any spies on these boards, take heed of this idea; could you imagine the fight over ressies for this resort?

1. A space themed resort to go with TomorrowLand or with Mission Space as an Epcot area Resort.
This is over the top but has some good ideas:

2.Love the idea of a Mythological Atlantis type themed resort. Done up something like the Lost Continent Area of Universal's IOA

3 Treasure Planet type Resort. A mix of the past and future. A futuristic Pirates of the Caribbean Resort.

4. Resort with Disney themed Kids Suites something like the Holiday Inn offers.

5. An Underwater Resort so something finally goes in the 20,000 Leagues area.;)
