I meant to post sooner:

Last year, I added a day to our resort stay. CBR Preferred Handicapped room. I did this by phone at least a month before our stay. I did not notice until we were 45 mins from WDW that the reservation was not for a handicapped room. I called and thankfully was able to get a Preferred Handicapped room.

This year, (August) I added 2 days to our resort stay at the time of check in. I got to the room and it was not handicapped. I went back to the Custom House (where you check in at CBR). No Preferred Handicapped rooms were available. Mobility is more of an issue for my mom, than handrails needed, so I kept the room. We just helped her step over the tub edge and put a towel on the little shelf/seat in the tub. She also used her walker as an assistance device to get in and out of the tub.

Be mindful when booking or changing a reservation that your room choice is correct.
 
I find the CBR to be very bad about handicapped access. Several times, even when it has been reserved, I have been refused a handicapped room. The attitude was take it or leave it. Won't go back there if I can avoid it.

That's horrible. If my mom was 100% dependent on a HC room, I would have fought harder.

When we go next time, she will be 100% dependent on a HC room and I will not allow them to deny her. They can move us to another resort if need be. I am so sorry you were denied.

Wow, that is just wrong! I'm very sorry you've had to deal with that situation.

OP, you have a somewhat different issue in your first post...you indicate that you twice had an HA room reserved and then extend your reservation with somewhat short notice (1 month and at check-in). You absolutely are correct that it's important to pay attention and make sure the room type (HA) didn't change if/when making a change in the reservation. However, the resort has no obligation to provide an HA room for the extended dates if one is not available. It sounds like that may be the most recent situation; by adding more days (nights) the system could no longer recognize an HA room available for your length of stay. I'm very sorry that happened but glad you were able to assist your mother to make the situation tenable.

However, I honestly would never expect an HA room to be available for additional days if I don't request it in advance and have confirmation of such. Possible, but I wouldn't expect it; and that goes for any hotel, not just WDW. I agree with your initial notation - watch that the correct room type doesn't changed if adjusting a reservation.
 

Our first stay at CBR years ago we paid in full in advance at rack rate for a water view room for our family of four plus an infant. When we got to our room it was a HA King room facing a parking lot. We didn't even have enough bedding let alone the water view we paid dearly for.

Almost an hour later of basically arguing with us, they moved us to our correct room and view. Much lost time arguing, then to move our suitcases back to our car and drive all the way to the farthest building (guess our punishment) and unloading once again. Customer service at it's worse.

The sad part in it all was they were giving us a room that another family may have really needed :(
