If You Can't Get The ENT Rate Where Do You Stay?

So I saw some dates available for the entertainment rate at Hojo's and called the next day but those dates had already been taken down. So I'm just curious if you guys couldn't get the ent. rate would you still stay at Hojo's? Or is there somewhere else I should check out?

Sometimes HoJo's with AP or disboards discount, often Anaheim Plaza, as it's one of the cheapest and has pretty large rooms (we're a party of 5) and a huge pool

Did you hear the ET rate calendar is down for maintnance? Maybe dates will be open when the fix it? :confused3

Stay there without the discount, probably not. The Hojo only has two advantages over other harbor street hotels. The pool is the best for kids, and the entertainment rate.

Almost every other hotel is closer, some have free breakfast, some have newer roooms. Pick one that fits your needs.

I do a priceline search and find good deals. I don't have kids and usually only travel with 4 or less people so we just like a close enough walk, friendly staff and clean rooms. I just booked the Ramada Maingate for $60/night in January!

I do Priceline. I've gotten the Holiday Inn for as low ast $37. The most I ever paid with Priceline was $60 and that was for the Doubletree (which was very nice and included a free shuttle). I never bid on anything below 3 stars.

When I couldn't get the rate, I booked Carousel. And then HoJo put the rate up 3 or 4 days before my trip, but because I'd booked Carousel through Orbitz, I was already past the cancelation period (it was a one night stay). Drat.

I've also booked through priceline, but that again was a one night deal, we had a car, and we were only there something like 6 hours...I'm not even sure I checked hojo that time, but I probably did...but in that case I had been booked at $50 with motel 6 (though hotels.com which allows cancelations to a certain time), then canceled that when I got the Hilton through priceline for the same price (got to add in 12-15 for parking fee though!).

Anyway, OP, remember that the disboards fan rate is a nice percentage off, so don't forget to check that. And keep on looking to see if your dates are posted again, b/c it's totally possible! (but if you book something you cannot cancel, like through priceline, STOP checking)

So how do you find out about Disboard rates?

Anaheim Plaza, Candy Cane Inn, Tropicana, Best Western Park Place Inn. We also have stayed farther away because we had PAPs with free parking. :)

To be honest, I don't really understand the "down for maintenance" argument. It's a functioning discussion board. If the site was "down for maintenance", you wouldn't be able to see it, and it wouldn't be like that for several days in a row.

I think they're just not offering any dates right now - fair enough. Keep checking, I guess.

I agree with you. "Down for maintenance" makes no sense. I thought it was interesting that the disappearance of the dates came so soon after the start date for the new Entertainment book/card. We haven't heard anything about Hojo not participating in the program anymore, so I haven't been worried about that. I wouldn't be surprised though if we see a bit of a price increase on the Entertainment rates. My theory has been that they stopped offering the rates until they can establish the new pricing. I remember when they made the rate adjustment a while back. The building 2 queen bed rooms used to be $59 per night with entertainment card, and Disney view rooms were $69 per night. Each room type went up $10 per night. Still a bargain. So maybe it's something like that. Just pure speculation on my part though.

BTW, to the OP, we have occasionally stayed at Hojos without the Entertainment rate. We've had APs the last few years and often found that Hojos had the other nearby hotels beat with the AP 20% off. We feel comfortable at Hojos so are willing to pay, depending on the prices elsewhere. The other places we like to rate-compare to and will stay at sometimes are Candy Cane Inn and Tropicana. Once we stayed at the DLH because nobody had good rates, so we figured it was the best time to take advantage of some DLH AP rates and really splurge! Most of the time we are more frugal though.

So after lurking on this board for a year and a half, this is the 1 question where I feel like I might have something new to add.

I just booked a trip for Feb 2011 a couple weeks ago and the Entertainment Rates weren't posted yet. I booked online and got a rate of $69 on a room with a two queen beds because that was the promotional rate if you booked more than 3 nights.

Eventually they did open my dates to the Entertainment Rate and so I called and got the same rooms for $10/night cheaper, but I didn't think $69 was too bad.

I guess my point is that even if certain dates aren't open for the Entertainment Rate, you may want to see if there are other deals. I didn't even know about the deal I got until I started making the reservation.

Just a thought.

Hey there, welcome to the boards, and thank you so much for the tip about the Stay 3 Nights deal. I had some February dates booked "just in case" using the 20% off AP rate, so I just called and switched them to this cheaper deal.

Hojo annoucing maintenance.

I suspect Longtimedisneylurker is right, that since we are at the end of the year Hojo is tweeking pricing. As a rule prices always go up.

Have you seen heard people are wondering why they can't find good AP rates at DLR hotels?

I also suspect that like Disney, Hojo wants everyone to come at high rates for December than hold off for a discounted rate in January.

Jack, I have.

The buildings are old and the concrete is sagging in areas. The AC in my room was loud and inefficient. I was there when it was really hot in Anaheim and at full blast my room never felt cold. No free breakfast. Parking $4 a night.

Room was very clean. The grounds are kept super nice. Plenty of parking spaces. Fairly close. Has in the hotel; a bar, restaurant, car rental desk, gift shop, arcade, and place to arrange tours. Staff was very fast and very nice, I spoke to many. It's also the cheapest/closest hotel to the gates.

I'd stay again if the rates are again low.

Thanks, my daughter and her BF are looking for an inexpensive place to stay that is close so thought I would snag an opinion. Sorry for the hijack.

I agree with both of you that it's about pricing. "Maintenance" implies it's a technical issue, so when I saw the announcement I thought it was more about either changing the whole pricing structure or the strategy about when to offer different rates.

We love HoJos. But you cannot always get a cheap rate.

We have stayed at the Fairfield, Carousel and most recently the Ramada Maingate - at the park.

We have enjoyed each hotel in their own way. All are very close to the Parks.

I was impressed by the Ramada our last stay. We booked a deluxe room, but was upgraded to a premium room, free of charge. If you use Facebook, look them up, they run some pretty great specials.

I love a bargain, so I usually pick which ever is the BEST deal. We don't usually spend much time in our room, so I don't pay to stay at the Disney properties. My criteria is: clean, cheap and close.

After 4 different hotels stays on Harbor, I am convinced they all are pretty decent...but, finding the best bargain can be a challenge.

Good luck deciding.
