If you boycotted the Dixie Chicks...

And it appears that we agree about at least that. :)
And that the Chicks put out some good albums. And that Natile shoots off her mouth too much. And we both have had Reba's CD's in the changer.

There was an article in Monday's NY Times that basically came right out and said that the win wasn't about the music but about the boycott and the attitude of the voters regarding the President.

I'm assuming this "article" is someone's opinion and they did not survey the grammy voters.

I love how people on the internet like to tell others that 1) They can read their minds - and 2) They are lying.

No, I don't care how many albums the Dixie Chicks sell. And I don't care about who wins awards, ever, no matter who it is. I sat and thought about it and honestly couldn't come up with ANYTHING I consider less important.

Nor, since you keep bringing up my personal feelings, do I look for things to be upset about. There are enough things wrong right now...I don't need to search anything out.

What bothers me, like I've said many, many times on this and other threads devoted to the topic is that people slam country music fans because the Dixie Chicks convinced them we're bad folks who persecuted them. And we're rednecks who deserve to have abuse heaped upon them.

We're blamed for all manner of wrongs and were, in fact, the ones wronged in this deal, if blame is to be laid anywhere.

And, like I said, there are 2 fights I stick with to the end around here. One is whether or not country music fans are stupid rednecks who persecute the Dixie Chicks (no) and the other is whether buying a purse some other people can't afford means you have no morals (also no.) Just why these are more important to me than whether President Current is the evil or Poster123 is a bad mom, I don't know.

And yes, I was a Dixie Chicks fan. I still like their songs - that doesn't change. I just don't buy their albums anymore.

But like I said, it isn't country music fans who keep this going. It is the Dixie Chicks and their refusal to let it go. Had they just accepted their award without the comment about what they'd "better" do, this thread wouldn't have been started.

What you happen to think about the current POTUS makes no difference and has nothing to do with any of this.

I post what I think. I don't cloak it in something else. The fact that you'd assume I'm saying one thing, but really meaning another, doesn't mean anything at all about me. But I do have to wonder why somebody would jump to such a conclusion.

I don't think you are a liar and I didn't say that. I think you are wrong about wether you care or not. The original statements by Natalie Maines were about George Bush and that makes what I and the majority of the country think about him germane to this conversation. It *IS * why the Dixie Chicks first fell from grace therefore pertinent. Why do I jump to the conclusion that you care? Because you have posted on this thread now at least 30 times. I think that's pretty clear. If I am wrong, how often do you post when something IS important? I guess I COULD be wrong but it's hard for me to understand someone claiming not to care about something that obviously hits them so close to home and then the major multiple posts----what conclusion would you come to if the shoe were on the other foot?

Last: about the abuse 'heaped' upon you: Natalie Maines spoke badly about George Bush in London. It was country music fans and country music stations that heaped abuse on the Dixie Chicks as if she had spoken badly about them. So-deserted by that group of fans, the DC decided they could do without that kind of abuse(death threats, CD burnings, witch hunts and hanging) and divorced themselves from the abusers who happened to be country music fans and disc jockeys from country music stations. As a group-those 'country' folks said-we hate you, we don't care what happens to you, we hope you fail. It was THEN and only THEN that the DC began to speak out about the hurtful things and how they didn't need that group anyway. I happen to LOVE country music-LOVE IT!! CMT is on my 'favorites' on my TV. I will admit that Travis Tritt is not one of my favorites, nor do I like the oppotunistic "America" songs- I don't even listen to the simulcast at the 4th of July fireworks because they just play the heck out of those songs. But, hey, I don't like all rock or classical either. I was NOT offended by the DC statements about country music fans. I KNEW it was not me they were refering to. Did you think it was you? Were you one of the 'fans' who sent them hate mail or death threats or burned their CDs? You seem to be taking this thing really personally for someone who 'couldn't care less.' How much do you spend on your purses? I have had the same sorry purse for years. lol!

Who is the "they"? The terrorists?

Most Iraqi's want us to help them -- and we are.
"They" would be the same "they" as in the post to which I responded. "They" that are fighting against us.

You may call them terrorists. Many call them insurgents. They call themselves the resistance or freedom fighters.

Whether or not you or the majority of Iraqis (which is debatable) think we are helping is irrelevent. I was talking about why certain Iraqis are fighting us now.

If you plainly stated, "I don't care about X, I care about Y," I'd figure that you didn't care about X, but you did care about Y. To me, it makes no sense for someone to lie about it, and I don't think I can read anyone's mind - certainly not from internet posts.

I explained it twice now. One time in the post you quoted.

Maybe before you ask again what I care about and what I don't, you could bother to read it. Maybe not. I dunno. And I pretty much don't care.

If you want to believe you have some super-knowledge that allows you to know I'm wrong about what I care about, have at it. I won't argue it. What you do or don't think I care about doesn't change my personal feelings, nor does it make any difference.

Travis Tritt isn't generally picked on. It is usally Toby. Nice to hear someone else get picked on for a change. :rotfl: Next we can hear from people who don't like Brooks & Dunn. :)

You make the distinction that the Dixie Chicks weren't talking about you. They didn't make that distinction. They simply said country music has become too redneck for them, they don't want to be in the car with Toby and Reba, they wanted fans who "get it" and are "cool," - because the rest of us "limit" what they can do.

I'm one of the folks who happens to like country music, does have Toby and Reba CDs, and is obviously not "cool" enough to be wanted as a fan. So, I said, "The hell with them." But that's long over.

And now we have come full circle on the thread.

Yes, "they" are predominately terrorists that are fighting us now. "They" want the freedom to destroy lives and liberty.

I flew across the ocean in first class(got a lucky upgrade) with Brooks and Dunn once. We had a great time. They are such nice guys! Guess I'm one of the country music fans that IS 'cool enough'. You still didn't tell me about your purses.

I have loved the Dixie Chicks from the beginning and I still love them. They have paid a HUGE price for talking publicly about their political beliefs.

I liked Toby Keith in the early years but absolutely can't stand him now. If I have to hear him sing one more song about the Red, White and Blue, I am going to lose my mind. He seemed to capitalize the most on the war and DC's fall from grace.

I like Brooks & Dunn but we're mad at them for ALWAYS winning every award. We keep rooting for Montgomery Gentry and Little Big Town but what's the point? :lmao:

Seriously, I don't think that ALL country fans are mad at the Dixie Chicks or else CMT wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. What's fun is that now VH1 plays them so they have a new market opened up to them.

Never really boycotted them because I never really like them to begin with.
