We had booked an 11C GTY for our Oct 2011 cruise & were just assigned an upgrade a few weeks ago. We went from a standard inside to a deluxe outside stateroom.

Thanks! That's what I was hoping We have 5 of us now (new baby will be 4mo old) So the baby's booked in Grandma's room but will be staying with us. Hopefully we get upgraded for more room than an 11A has hehe.

I have booked three cruises on points and one on cash.

Got upgraded once on points, so IMHO it's far from guaranteed. Boat has to be pretty full it seems, but even then...

My cash I was an 11A and "no upgrades" No one I met on the boat had an upgrade either.

Upgrades may be given to those booking on DVC points, points/cash combo or strictly cash non DVC. That being said, upgrades are very few and far between. We do hear of them (as shown by the posters above) here, but for every one we hear of, there are hundreds or thousands more that did not get upgraded.

That being said, one can always hope. However, be sure you are happy with the category you book for your cruise. Otherwise, you may end up miserable that you never got a "free upgrade".

We did book what we'd be comfortable with and will be happy if that's what we end up with. My BIL and SIL went on 1 cruise - a Transatlantic for their honeymoon and were upgraded. I'm hoping that since we're doing repo's there's a better chance. If not then we won't be upset about our experience. BUT it would be nice to have a little more room now that we have a baby coming

I think it's more likely to happen if you book a cabin that is in guarantee (GTY) status regardless of how you pay for it. The GTY essentially means they'll get you a cabin somewhere, wherever they can fit you and if you're booked in a cat 11 there's only one way to go & that's UP.

Yeah I have heard that. We were assigned a room right away when we booked and since we're doing B2B we were OK with that (same room for both). But if we got upgraded we would be ok switching rooms lol.
