It should be quite pleasant. Upper 70's, low 80's, no rain. I know a number of folks were heading Chicago-way for a now cancelled DIS meet, and some did have non-cancellable hotel and transportation ressies, so will be in town regardless. The weather should be great after about a week and a half straight of rain and hot weather.

Enjoy the city, it's a great one!!!!! :sunny:

Meet or not, I wish I could be there this weekend. It sounds like fabulous weather!!! Alas I would have had to cancel on the meet because we are celebrating my grandmother's 92nd birthday Sunday. Enjoy the nice weather :)

Well Dan I certainly do apologize to anyone who this effected. I know of one person who it effected. If you care to forward the many people's names who this impacted I would certainly send them a personal apology. Sometimes things do not work out, I hosted a meet at our home last year that had over 70 + disers in attendece. I had hoped to do the same again this year. We were not able to and cancelled as soon as I saw the conflict come up. Of course anyone could have stepped up and offered to host at thier home, including you, but that did not happen.

I just want to say I have heard Patrick say many times how awful he felt that he had to cancel the meet. It's a shame that nobody else could take over but that's life sometimes.

If that was intended to embarass Patrick, Dan, congratulations. I didn't see anyone else offer to hold it at their home?

That was a mean thing to do. :(
I'm disappointed that you would do such a thing.

Maybe I am blind or stupid (or both) but I didn't think that was meant as a dig on Patrick. I was one who had a hotel booked for the weekend and since the meet had been canceled; coupled with the power loss and my grandmother's party, I canceled my plans to drive out this morning not too long ago. Had I been able to make the trip and use my ressies I would have found this a nice post... and I still do especially since I was planning on making a weekend of it, meet or not.

I'm not a mindreader, but it didn't sound to me as though Dan was trying to embarrass anyone. It's too bad the meet didn't work out for tomorrow, but Patrick gave us plenty of notice.
Unless I'm mistaken, some people will still get together on Sunday at Great America.

I had a Priceline hotel reservation for Saturday night, but decided to stay home this weekend. I was out of town the past 2 weekends and will be gone the next 3 weekends, so I'm not upset about the cancellation. I hope those of you who are in Chicago will have a great time. :)

GO Thing I live in Boston, I can't get blamed for anything.

Well I didn't think it was necessary to mention a now cancelled DIS meet for those with "non-cancellable hotel and transportation ressies". I'm sure one could say that they hope those heading to Chicago could enjoy the weekend and the weather report without those 2 points.

Dan's post sounded fine to me...I read nothing in his post to warrant the bashing that followed. I think most people would not have thought anything otherwise, until the following posts. Perhaps you just should have moved it to the DIS meets board.

I don't think that I would ever make a reservation that I wasn't able to cancel. If I did, I would expect that there might be a possibility that I would lose the money. C'est la vie!

Sorry you couldn't have the meet, Patrick. I am really amazed with people like you, Towncrier, and Alex (sure I have forgotten somebody there!) that open your homes to us. I think that shows a real generosity of spirit and high level of hospitality and that is to be admired. {{{HUGS}}}

Just think, Eros isn't even here and people are doing this. OH EROS, you're missed, at least you had humor, i don't find this funn at all.

 As usual I am confused, but let me tell you ALL something: DAN is the MOST kind and GENEROUS Man I have EVER MET!-----Besides my DH of course.:o He was just letting those that MIGHT still be coming to his city, that the weather will be OKAY! Get OVER IT!;)

You call this bashing?? ROFL!!
It's an opinion of something that was said, you're entitled to yours, just as I'm entitled to mine.

You're absolutely right...thanks to all who host and plan DIS meets! Patrick - the meet at your home last July was fabulous!!! :)

Those of us (like me) who get non-cancellable airline tickets and hotels via Priceline know the chance we are taking when we do so. I've gotten 2 plane tickets and probably a half dozen hotels (maybe more) via Priceline that I've ended up not using. It's only money.

JTB, many use priceline and they save tons on that... and a portion of the time I go to Chicago, I fly... therefore non-refundable (my tickets are always cheaper than the fee to change the flight). Others have been known to do that...

Anyway......

Thanks Dan for your kind wishes... if anything I am SO GLAD to know that good weather is most likely headed my way. And after the 'hellish' week of storms we have had here I am glad. To all traveling to Chicago and otherwise, enjoy the weather if you can :)

Add me to the list of people agreeing that Dans post sounded fine. Throughout time I have seen lots of posts about canceled
Dis meets and would have not even known that it was Patrick who had to cancel plans if Patrick Il, Alex, and CC had not immediately posted using Patricks name about it. I did not see
Dan list any personal names.

That's great, Elaine. My point is that if something is non-refundable, you should be prepared to lose that money in the event of unforeseen circumstances. It's like gambling. Never gamble what you aren't prepared to lose.

I was reading this thread, shaking my head at how reactions and misperceptions and such can get ugly so fast....about such really inconsequential things in the grand scheme of life........sad really.

I got to the above post and was struck by the irony of Dan being at the center of some DIS controversies since EROS' banishment. Actually, it made me giggle! :teeth:

Dan, Patrick, CC...actually ALL of you who have posted on here I consider "DISfriends" of mine....
and I wish you all a very nice weekend..........don't mean to be critical of anyone or anything...I'm just enjoying a nice relaxing Friday night DIS session..........so I'll leave this thread now
:)

I just tried to make light of what was being said. I don't think Dan was being mean. Sometimes we can all type things on the computer that are not read by others the way then are meant. We can't see emotions other than :D :(   Take thiings like and don't try to figure out what others write
