If we purchased DDP and then Disney offers it for free, do we get a refund? Also, my DS is under 3 so we're planning on giving him food from our plates. But what about a drink? Do I have to pay for this seperately or will they let me share my drink?
That's a very good question, and one I'm wondering about as well since we are going in August. If I remember correctly from last year, people had to cancel and then re-book with the free plan.
To be honest, I'm kind of hoping they don't offer it for free when we're going. I'd rather pay OOP for the dining plan than deal with the larger crowds (JMHO).
My DD will be 2 in May for our trip, and will be sharing (she barely eats 5 mouse-bites at a time, anyway) But I will be buying her drinks at all meals. I dont want to drink milk or apple j, and I dont want her loading up her tiny tummy on diet coke and iced tea
You will have to rebook your package if they offer the free dining promotion. They will refund your original deposit, and charge you again for the deposit on your new reservation. Some people have reported just being able to change their package to reflect the free dining, I have had to rebook both years.
I can't answer your question about children's drinks - sorry.

Of course you can share your drink. Some buffet restaurants may give your son his own beverage. But kids under 3 always eat free from their parent's plate or at buffets.
Disney "lets" you do any amount of sharing you want w/ kids under 3 or with kids over 3 at all restaurants except buffets and fixed price meals (PSB in Norway, CRT, etc)

I'm with you on that. First half of our trip this past summer was before free DDP, second half was just as it started. I would much rather pay DDP and get a AAA discount than deal with the crowds and difficulty with ADR's. JMHO.
I want to preface this by saying that this was just my personal experience and may not be the norm, BUT:
On our trip in May I think I only had to pay for DS(18months) drink a couple of times at TS places, most places provided him with milk for free.
We were on the DDP for the rest of the family and I think it may have been more trouble than it was worth for the server to create an OOP bill for the price of a glass of milk, but that's just my guess. I believe the times I was charged were when we also had other OOP purchases with our meal.
