If we are supposed to stay out of the lakes

Why are there activities through Sammy Duvall watersports that are in the lake? Do you not get wet enough for the amoeba to get you? I'm thinking about trying jet skiing, but I've heard Pete's warning enough to be scared of lake water.

The amoebas generally get you when you are kicking up the bottom of the lake and swim up your nose. Chances of that happening while parasailing are slim.

Still doesn't excuse the fact that they do the triathlon at Fort Wilderness with the swimming portion in the lake!

Funny - on the way home I just saw something at a dive store about diving in the lake at Epcot. Hmmmmm diving underwater in a lake hmmmmm amoebas.....

Our first trip I was planning on doing the sea racers, but then I started listening to the podcast...

Then when I got there I was like 'There's no way I'm going out on that water!'

Chances are jetskiing you would probably be ok though.

Yup,

The issue is with those amoeba getting inside your body through an opening.... such as your nose, mouth, or ears. The Jet-ski, Parasailing, water mice, etc, while you may get wet, won't get you wet enough to risk your swallowing the water or giving those little critters the path to get thru those openings.

Not the mention that it's not like the lakes are infested with them and even touching the water means certain death. You could go swimming in the lake and be perfectly fine..... but since you are increasing the amount of water you are in contact with, and also submerging those openings within the water, you increase your odds. (and I'd also bet the above mentioned "kicking up the sediment" would be a factor too.)

That said... I'm still trying to figure out where I can get my Lake Snake Baked Cheesecake on a snack credit.

It all depends on which CM you go to on whether they will let you use a snack credit for your Lake Snake Baked Cheesecake. I think it counts as a desert on the dining plan though.
