If you could choose between the Hilton, Clarion, Radisson, Tropicana, HoJo, or Carousel for about the same price, where would you stay?

Personally? I would choose Hojo's out of the list given. But, that doesnt mean its the best choice for you. I would pick it because: Three of your options are ones I would have to use ART (Hilton, Rad. and Clar). We like to be walking distance. I would take a lower quality hotel, then have to use the shuttle. So, that leaves Hojo's, Trop, and Carousel. Trop and Carousel get mixed reviews. Hojo's usually gets good reviews. The walk is a bit further then the other two, but still close enough.

Like hlb, I'd take a lower quality walking distance hotel over anything requiring ART......primarily because at this stage of my life, I've three (soon to be four) kiddos under the age of six who require naps. I'd probably not choose Tropicana because I read that they don't have bathtubs in some/all of their rooms (shower only) and iirc something about noisy/uncomfortable vinyl mattress covers. It'd be between HOJOs (a little nicer and more spacious rooms, though further to walk, nicer pools and grounds) and Carousel (cramped quarters, dingy pool, but sooo close to DL).

All that said, once they get older I'd gladly take a nicer hotel on the ART line. Probably wouldn't do Raddison -- have read terrible terrible reviews on that one. Clarion -- doesn't ring a bell; Hilton -- believe I've read mostly good reviews.

I've stayed at the Hilton, HOJO and Carousel Inn, and of the three, I'd choose the HOJO.

Hilton: Nice hotel, but too far to walk for me. I'd need to ride the ART everytime. The HOJO ART route (if you decide to use it) is not as crowded. You're first on (when going to DL) and first off (coming from DL) the trolley when staying at the HOJO.

Carousel Inn: Very close, but I have issues with the quality of the rooms. When we stayed there, there were exposed outlets (hard, especially when you have a baby and toddler). We stayed in a one-bedroom suite in the summer and the bedroom where we had the kids stay didn't have ANY A/C vents to pump cold air into the room. Very, very strange. When my parents stayed there, their A/C was extremely noisy. Parking is also at a premium.

HOJO: An easy 7-10 minute walk from DL's entrance, with an option to take the ART, if needed. Kid friendly, nice pool with some rooms having decent views of the fireworks. Staff is also friendly and their gift shop is stored with almost everything you need if you forgot something. Parking is free and plentiful. Close to sit down restaurant or fast food.

HTH!

Thanks for the replies. I should mention that it will be me and 2 teen boys. I have stayed at the Hilton and did not mind using the ART but I have not stayed at the other places. The Executive Level room we had was nice but I have read some bad reviews on the Hilton and am concerned that the regular rooms are pretty bad. The walk is about 15 minutes and that doesn't seem like that much more than HoJo, and I like the interior corriders.

Any more opinions?

I'll be in the minority and pick the Tropicana. We stayed there for five nights in February and loved it. We enjoyed the HoJo too, and if I hadn't read so many rave reviews on tripadivisor I probably would have been pleasantly surprised instead of somewhat disappointed. It still shocks me that this place rates above the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier. But thats just me. In any case, I would be fine with the Tropicana or the HoJo, I have had good experiences at both but found the Tropicana's rooms more updated and the walk is closer. It was about five minutes from our room to the main gates. Also, there is no chance of getting a room located close to the highway. On the other hand, the HoJo's pool is superior to the Tropicana's. And the dreaded, infamous, plastic mattress covers at the Tropicana didn't bother us a bit and can be removed by either the guest or management very easily. Good luck and have a great trip!
