Im sure many of you may or may not have heard that there is a rumor that Space Mountain will be going down for Rehab for a Year. If it happens will it affect the Attendance at the Magic Kingdom?

I don't think so. I think there are enough other big ticket attractions there to keep it going.

I seriously doubt it. There is always something being worked on. Many people have trips planed far in advance and are not going to cancel because of 1 ride.
There may be a couple , but not anything that's going to make a difference.

I truly hope they do not refurbish space mountain!!! We got to experience the space mountain in California and while we did enjoy it, it does not have the unexpected drops that the space mountain in WDW has.

I would have thought the economy will affect attendance more than the ride closure.

The short answer is No. SM is a fun ride but one ride being down for maintenance will likely not affect attendance.

When we were there last year space mountain was down and it didn't hurt the attendance at all, it was wayyyy crowded.

I hate space mountain!!!!! It's a headache ride! I haven't rode it in years. Now, if they redo it to be like Disneyland, I'll go on it again and again! I went out there in March and loved it! :cool1:

I voted no. I have not met anyone that planned their trip to Disney for that one ride. I do hope they keep it the same. It is classic.

Space Mountain is NOT my favorite, and if they disassembled it and took it away forever, it wouldn't keep me from coming to Magic Kingdom!!

I don’t think the attendance will go down very much. There are still 2 mountains to ride at MK. If anything guests looking for the trill experience might spend a little more time at AK or DHS on the other rides.

The only time it might make a difference is right at the end of the rehab. If the ride is down from March 08 to March 09 for example, anyone really wanting to see the new ride might delay a trip from Feb or March until April or May. That won’t really lower attendance as much as shift it.

and keep in mind- dis'rs or 'educated' planners like us are a small portion of those that travel to WDW. i would guess a large majority of folks that go to WDW don't even know what rides are going down for rehab prior to their trip.

even if it was going down during my trip- i wouldn't cancel or reschedule- it just means i would spend more time on it next trip! i'd be disappointed, but everything has to go down at some point for updates.

A big thank you for your Imput on Space mountain. I guess that after seeing what happened durring my 1994 trip to WDW Most of tomorrowland was under Rehab as well as Spaceship Earth and the world of motion (Now Test Track)The Attendance was just as crowded as if those closed attractions were open. Hey Pete Julie Corey Kevin and John If you see this thread feel free to add your comments. Thanks:thumbsup2

If it was the trip of a lifetime, it might affect someone, but I don't think it will affect the frequent visitor. I think the frequent visitors are the ones who "get it" and understand it's going to take a while and realize it needs to be done.
