If someone gives you a gift card....

What would you do?

  • Pay off bills, or buy gas, or groceries

  • Treat yourself a little...go to Noah's and buy a figurine or two...

What a lovely gesture from your parents. :)

Well since you've posted the fairies link, no contest. ;)

Which one(s) are your favourites? I love them all, they are really pretty but I like all things fairies anyway!

Hmmm, I wonder if they ship overseas? I'll take a proper look later. ;)

I think they ship overseas. :)

I have http://www.faerieglennj.com/fg811.html this one that Chris got me for Christmas last year. I love Rosawind and Hollieshimmer...

Absolutley! You can use it anywhere they take visa. I still have the item I bought, and showed it to my mom as soon as we got back. If I hadn't had the card I would have passed on the Snow Globe. It was special and exactly what I wanted.

I think I would use it on something for myself. My sister has done that a couple times - when I was married we'd always get a lot of stuff for the house, "couple" stuff - a couple times she's given me a gc or Disney Dollars and stressed not using it for the house, bills, etc.

I agree with the others. If you can't think of anything else to buy, save it for your trip to Disney in December. Definitely use it for yourself. We all deserve to treat ourselves every now and then.

What about saving it for you upcoming Disney trip and getting a really great souvenier there? I did that with my Christmas Gift Card (visa) my parents gave me last Christmas and used it at Disney this past February.

Can you imagine the headache it would cause telling your mom you spent it on something practical? I know I wouldn't want to face my mom when she specifically said to spend it on something nice for me.

I would use it to pay sensible things for your bills, to make your life easier for a little while anyways. Maybe you could buy something small for yourself as a Token.

Buy something for yourself, Sheri. It sounds like that's what your mom intended. :)

(And quick, before Monty Dog snags it to get himself some new chew toys or red tennis balls! ;) )

Wow! That was really nice of them. Those little odds and ends do add up, dont they?

As for the gift card, for me it would depend on my current financial situation. If things were going well and I felt that money was just gravy I might go spend it on something I wouldnt usually buy for myself ...but probably something practical like a new outfit, but one I dont "need" . However if things were tough and I was scrimping and saving I would probably spend it on the bills.

WOW! Your parents looking to adopt? ;)

Seeing that they bought you LOADS of practical things already, why buy something practical? I know it's hard, but they already bought you the practical stuff so you can freely buy something SPLURGE worthy on yourself! DO IT! And don't feel guilty at all!

=)

All I will say is, if my mom told me to splurge on my self and I didn't (shudder) look out, there would be hell to pay.

I would try to do both, depending on our current financial situation. There have been a few weeks when the feeling of having $50 extra dollars for necessities or bills would give me more relief than a massage! Other weeks, I think I would buy something small for myself and spend the rest on groceries, gas, whatever I could. Been a long time since I just spent money on myself, I guess. Except the gas we used driving to Disney before our passes expired! Good times!!

Esme--Your practical side is showing. Hide it! Quick!

Now, get yourself to Noah's and indulge in a couple of those fairies you were talking about.

If you're feeling guilty about it think of it as making your Mom happy!

I'd do both! ::yes::

For instance...maybe you need a new pair of shoes for the fall/winter. Normally you might spend $25 on them (well, I might, anway). Well, with the gift card, you can afford to splurge on a really nice pair for $75! ::yes::

Practical, yet splurging at the same time!
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together!! :teeth:

Indulge. Spend it how your mom intended you to spend it.

I absolutly would buy something for me. Funny this is here because my Grandma just gave me a nice monetary gift today and I am using it to buy a new dining room set for my new house. She will be thrilled to see that her gift went to something I will have for a very very long time!!!

What would YOU do?

This line is your answer. Your mom wants you to take that $50 and buy something for yourself. I know it's hard to do that sometimes, but if you really want to show your appreciation, go buy something nice for yourself, then let your mom know what you bought :)
