If points go into holding...

For the first time in over 15 years of membership, we may have to cancel within 30 days and have points go in to holding. We know that we can only book within 60 days with those holding points. The problem is that we have an August UY and don't see ourselves using those points within the next 4 months (does an August UY, by the way, mean August 1st or August 31st?) And our banking time has passed, not that I even know whether or not holding points can be banked. Can holding points be put up for rent on such short notice? Or are we probably completely out of luck? I heard a rumor about a one-time banking exemption-don't know if that can happen here, or if I just dreamed it might.
 
1. August UY means 8/1/17 - 7/31/18

4. I have also heard about a one time banking exemption, but I am not sure if points in holding qualify. The only way to know is to call MS.
 
You can ask for the one time exemption, or try to rent. I hope something works out.

I would try to rent the reservation out as a confirmed reservation, not cancel. Use one of the rental agencies if you don't want to field a lot of questions from renters and consider offering it as a "special" (reduce $/pt.) in order to move it fast. If the reservation is for a resort, villa category or date that is sold out, it will go fast. Good luck!

You can rent them out. The plus is that the summer does offer some options so it won't be as difficult as another time - like trying to find dates in October.
 
I’m in the same position. Renting the reservation is probably your best bet. I looked into banking them into rci today. I was told that holding points can be banked into rci. They have to be banked into rci within 45 days of the use year. For example, my June uy points have to be banked into rci by April 17. With your August uy there’s a little more time to play with to see if the reservation can be rented prior to resorting to an rci banking.

With regard to using for an rci Resort- I didn’t see anything that got me excited to try. Didn’t look too hard yet though. If you did bank in they have to be banked in increments of 10 and you have two years to use rci points. You can add non expiring points to get to an even group of 10 to bank to rci. Not sure if that’s throwing good money after bad though.

Booking rci looks like something that takes a learning curve. They have a tool online but it frustrated me. They also have some caveats such as some places have a fee. Ms was helpful. I’d suggest giving them a call to see what your options are.
