If only Tinker Bell was related to the tooth fairy... (FINISHED 4/26)

Sure I would take Don as a 2nd Nemesis...he's a much easier target. :lmao:

pirate:pirate:pirate:pirate:

I'm not sure that Don has a nemesis?
I just have Christopher...and maybe Don...but it's not offical...
I've also tried to play both sides of the original Nemesisisisis...Tim(my) and the Frozen quote grabbing Monkey from Wisconsin...

I think the official list is:

Trennr vs. Stopher1
FreezinRafiki vs. That's Nice
ClearScreen vs. AJRitz
Me vs. Middlepat

Did I miss anyone? :confused3

I know the feeling. I was my "daddy's girl" until he died two years ago. We never truly leave our daddy's.

And I adore her red hair. :thumbsup2

Awwwww... sorry to hear about your dad. I'll give my DD an extra hug tonight!

Sure I would take Don as a 2nd Nemesis...he's a much easier target. :lmao:

yeah... you have a point there. :lmao::lmao:

Updated DDC with this list to start. HEY! Get back over in the other thread, would ya! :rotfl2:

That's all I can think of. It just feels like there are more though for some reason. :confused3 I guess it is because we're equal opportunity and everyone is fair game, be they nemesis or ally.

Yeah, even the "allies" are more along the lines of Barbossa and Jack Sparrow.

Wow... seriously? It's been almost a month since my last update? I should be dragged and strapped to a boat on IASW for about 4 hours. Sheesh!

One of the things DW and I decided to do differently with DD this year was pin trading. A few months before the trip DW got on eBay and found a good deal on a bunch of pins. Managed to score a lot of about 25 hidden Mickey pins for less than $10 shipped. Gotta love eBay sometimes! We placed all the pins on a lanyard and explained the basics of the process to DD before we arrived. She was very excited about trading... but also a little nervous about doing it. You may have noticed the lanyard around her neck in the previous photos (I'm sure Trennr did!).

We depart from FTB and start making our way around Discovery Island to Africa. Along the way, DD noticed a CM with a lanyard and asked me to stop him to trade pins. The CM was a very nice guy who took the time to explain the process to her again and even showed her the pins that she would likely enjoy.

It was shortly after this picture that my DW realized that if you do not get the backs on just right, you could get a very good puncture wound on the finger pushing the back in. This prompted the rule of "Only Daddy will put the backs on from now on!" LOL. Those rubber backs are just problematic anyway. More on this later. Also... this picture is also dedicated to all our DIS Dad's Club friends North of us (Tutter99, DisneyDadd-O, middlepat, Jeffd101 & bdoyledimou). I think we still have that pin at home :)

There were two pins she traded for during this first CM encounter... one was for the Canada pin... the other was for a Buzz Lightyear pin. This was special for me, because I had no idea that she was trading her pin for this one... and she then hands it to me and says she wants me to have it! Awwww... THAT'S some love there . I promptly attached the pin to my hat and proudly wore it for all to see. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of it when I put it on.

Here are a few more pics along the way...

Well... it's been a few hours since we landed and the day has already been quite eventful. I was looking forward our first attraction... Kilimanjoro Safaris. As we approach the entrance to the ride, a family stopped us and asked if we would like fast passes to the ride. Turns out they were leaving for the day and wouldn't be able to use them. Sweet! I little Disney magic for once! Standby line was at about 30 minutes... we'd be more than happy to use them! I'd never actually used the FP line for this ride before and it was nice walking by all the poor folks in the standby line. OK... they probably weren't poor since they were at WDW. Less than 10 minutes later we were sitting on our tour truck off to rescue that baby elephant. Here are a few of the good pics we got from this bouncy trek:

DD is having a great time! (Hey... there's that Canadian pin again)

Well... we managed to save the elephant from those nasty poachers and our ride came to a successful end with all our body parts intact. Is it just me, or do those trucks needs some new shocks? In all, this is still my second favorite ride at AK.

Where to next? Hmmmm... I think we'll try something else we've never done before at WDW. Hint: It involves a train!

An update from Don! :cool1:

Great (not so) secret about where to get pins to trade. We've done that before our last three trips (too expensive to buy all of them at WDW).

Safari is always our first attraction as well. I have to agree with the shocks on the trucks but have to add Where the Beverly do the get all of those insane tour guide / drivers? What a great ride!

I'm going to guess that you did something for the first time this trip that we did for the first time ourselves in October. Rafiki's Planet Watch?

Wow... seriously? It's been almost a month since my last update? I should be dragged and strapped to a boat on IASW for about 4 hours. Sheesh!
That almost sounds like a suitable punishment. How many months has it been and we still aren't through day 1???? :rotfl2::lmao:

Nice update though. I've never gotten into the pin trading thing, but I've been thinking about hitting up Ebay and giving it a try sometime. I like the Safari as well, but I think it could use a fresh storyline.:rolleyes1

Any chance we'll see another update before New Year's Day??? (and I don't mean 2012)

Oh, I think six or eight hours on IASW is more appropriate for a MONTH of no updates. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Seriously, great update. I love the AK pictures...you did a great job. I hear what you are saying about the backs of those pins...they are awful. I too noticed in September that those vehicles are in dire need of new shocks. My DH had surgery in July and couldn't do the coasters, etc. He probably should have skipped the safari to with all the jostling.

Now, let's see if you get another update before a month passes by. ;)

Thanks for your patience, Mike :)

No kidding on the pin prices. The cheapest pin I recall seeing in the parks was like $4.99! I have to say, though, that I could really get myself into the pin trading. But there's toooooo much time in those. There are thousands of pins out there! Some of the CM's were nice enough to tell us if we had a rare pin or not.

The best tour guide we had one time was a young lady who really got into the theme and the spirit of the ride. Loved it when she really floored it across the bridge! :rotfl2:

I think you might be onto something there... :rolleyes1

Don't remind me :confused3 Day 1 was a BEAR! :lmao:

We waffled for a little while on whether or not to do it. But we first considered her age... then checked the prices. eBay made the final choice :cool1: A bit of advice, though... we started off with too many pins on her lanyard. It weighed a lot and the pins kept catching on things. She loved all the "flare"... but when that thing went in the backpack it was noticeable :rotfl2:

Yeah... agreed... KS needs a storyline update.

Very possible on another update soon. I am quite embarrassed at the time I took to get this update out... even by my own standards :guilty:

LOL... I can't even fathom the brain damage one would receive from that much....ummmm... torture! :lmao:

Thanks! I have to say... for a point and shoot camera that is almost 3 years old, it still takes decent pictures. Seriously considering going to a bridge camera and taking some photography classes. Who knows!

DH went on KS after having surgery? :scared1: Is he crazy?!? The coasters are wayyyy smoother than those trucks! LOL!

Wait, do you mean strapped to the boat or dragged behind it? Because if you're being dragged behind it, your head would be under water and you wouldn't be able to hear the music. Lets make sure you're strapped in the boat, OK? OK.

One of the things DW and I decided to do differently with DD this year was pin trading.
DW's parents got the kids into pin trading on our recent trip. It didn't take long before I was getting my own. I think I'm addicted now...

Awww...

I'm scared to get involved in the pin trading, because I know once I start, it's gonna be a lot of money...

Whew! I bet you were in suspense regarding the poachers. I'd be fine leaving the bumpy ride if they would update the story. Does anybody even listen to the poacher story anymore? :confused3

Where to next? Hmmmm... I think we'll try something else we've never done before at WDW. Hint: It involves a train!

I've never tried putting quarters on the rail, either. Good thinking! :thumbsup2

I don't know... which is worse... hearing the music in crystal-clear quality or having the tune muffled in that watery kind of way :confused3 Let's ask Fed... :rotfl2:

I was able to fight the attraction of the pins and live vicariously through my DD's efforts! :lmao: (so far!)

We went in mid-September and he had the surgery in mid-July. He was a little sore afterwards, but popped a couple of pills and was better shortly thereafter. Next year I'm hoping he'll be able to Tower of Terror with me...I missed it this year.

In cae I don't get back on here, I wanted to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas (I'm going to post a general Christmas wish on my finished TR, but wanted to send a special one to a few of you).

Thank you! And a very Merry Christmas to you and Mark, too! :santa:

Upon exiting the KS ride, DD noticed another CM that had some bling bling around her neck. She was really starting to get into the whole pin trading activity! Here she is with her second pin trading encounter (Disclaimer... DW only took the pin from the CM... she did not actually attach it to DD's lanyard! LOL!) :

Since DD didn't really know (or care) what the actual worth of the pins were, she simply went with her gut during the trades. It was fun to watch her check out each pin and making her decision. Not sure how this activity would have done if we started the year before. Seems we had good timing here... yeah!

At his point I took a survey to see what we were going to do next. We did not have any kind of itinerary for this park, so we really had no constraints on what to see or do this day. Since we were so close and had never tried it before, I mentioned Rafiki's Planet Watch. After casting our votes, the tally came in with 3 yeses! Cool! Off to RPW we go!

I have to make an admission here... I had no idea what to expect from RPW. Never before had I read anything about it, so I wasn't sure what there was to do. And I certainly did not know that you HAD to take a train to get there. To me that seemed strange. What if the train breaks down?? So we stroll up to the entrance and see there is a good-sized line... but we were thinking the line must move quickly since it's a train. As we were standing in line I took my hat off to take another look at my newly acquired Buzz pin. Ummmmm... where is Buzz?? He was nowhere to be found. No back in the hat either. I was getting pretty upset about it. We looked all around the area we were in... nothing. Problem is, I took the hat off during the ride on KS, so it could have fallen off then. This would be the reason behind my comment of the problematic rubber backs. I apologized to DD for losing the pin so quickly.

Well... the wait was longer than anticipated. A train had come, picked up a bunch of people and left... and we were still in line. I had apparently overestimated the capacity of the train. We ended up taking some more pictures and discussed future plans while we waited.

Now you see her....

Now you don't!

After what seemed like an eternity (about 30 minutes), we finally boarded the train to RPW. The actual train ride is quite... ummmm... boring. I would have thought more would have been staged... or landscaped.. but I don't recall anything like that. Anywho... the train arrives and we disembark. The first activity along the way is Habitat Habit! Interesting way to get kids to look at their own habitat and see what's in it. DD enjoyed this activity:

Up the trail from there is the Conservation Station:

Sitting outside the building is one of the portable ice cream stands and figured it was about time for a snack. Why not? The QSDP provides for 2 snacks per day... and with the temperature starting to rise, ice cream was sounding pretty good. We each order a Mickey Head Ice Cream Bar :mickeybar and sit down at the picnic table to eat. DD gets about 3 bites into the bar and for some reason she decides she wants to move seats or something and starts to get up. I have no idea what happened, but all of a sudden DD is on the ground... with a melting Mickey Head Bar beside her. I help her to the table and ask if she is ok... which she was... then proceeded to get frustrated as to what she was trying to do (and wasting a perfectly good ice cream bar). She had ice cream and chocolate all over her hands and the side of her shorts. Ugh! We get her cleaned as best we could with a few napkins from the stand and proceed to find the restrooms in the Conservation Station. DW was able to get most of the stuff off her and we try to resume normal operations. But at this point the day is really starting to get to me and it was getting harder not to show my displeasure. :furious: This is not good... in the Happiest Place On Earth!!

The Conservation Station is really a cool place to visit if you are into finding out what efforts are being done to conserve wildlife and the planet in general. They have various stationed set up in the building that you can explore. There are also CM's roaming around to answer questions and show you unique things. There happened to be a demonstration going on with a falcon on display. DD wanted to get her picture taken with the bird:

We even got to meet Jiminy Cricket!! I've never seen him before... and DD didn't quite know what to do. She didn't know who he was (still working on the classics with her). But she ended up getting his signature... quite shyly I might add!

We just roamed around the place for a while. Must have been about an hour or so. There's just so much to see and learn! DD even got to trade more pins there. Scored a very nice Tink one this time:

A bunch of shots:

Psychedelic, Dude!

Wildlife is exciting.... :rolleyes1

(continued in next post)

Yes, these guys are real!

Interesting guessing game here... DD didn't do too bad! Basically it had a picture of an animal and you had to guess how long the average life span was for it.

Yeah... I thought I smelled a rat! Another demonstration going on here. Can't tell from this picture, but there were at least 20 kids at this demonstration!

Going out the back side of Conservation Station leads you to the Affection Section. This is basically a petting zoo for the kids to touch some of the animals. Just a few pics from here:

It was getting to be a little after 1:00 in the afternoon and the heat was starting to get to us in that area. The smell didn't help either. We decided we'd head out of RPW and do some other things. On our way out of the petting area, DD spotted a gift shop (go figure). Guess what she found out of all the items that were in the shop?? Another Webkinz!:sad2: This one happened to be the cutest little Owl... and she just HAD to have it. After much deliberation with the treasurer (Mom), DD got her way and we ended up with another Webkinz. Glad we traveled all the way to Florida to get these things!! :lmao:

Back to the train we go and this time we only waited about 10 minutes before the train appeared. We made it back to the station safely and took a few minutes to make a decision on what was next. Perhaps the next installment with finish up this rather lengthy first day at WDW!

Don, love the update. We've not done RP in a while (I think the last time was 2000 when the kids were both with us). I do vaguely remember waiting a long time for a very boring train ride. Your daughter is just so cute; did she apply the "five second" rule on the Mickey bar and salvage it? ;)

Okay...I'm going to show my age here. What is a Webkinz???

Thank you... sometimes I wonder where she gets all that cuteness! :rotfl2: Oh no... there was no 5 second rule for that particular Mickey head. If you saw the ground it landed on I think you would have agreed  :lmao:

Webkinz, my friend, is a stuffed animal that comes with a tag that allows you to register the pet on an online web site. You can then play with the pet online in various games and you can even create his/her own room. Here's the web site for more info:
