If it weren't for bad luck.....

I swear we'd have no luck at all. It just keeps coming at us.

Dh has been unemployed since Oct 2009. Worked for almost 15 years at an automotive supplier to GM. He lost his job, when GM did their whole bankrupcy thing. There are few and far between factory jobs - one opening will get a 1000 applications. So, he went back to school and works temp security jobs every chance he gets.

But could we please just have a bit of luck. If we didn't keep getting hit with these, we would be doing better than we are.

DH had phenomua last feb. Started off with double ear infection, sinus infection, and an eye infection. The ear infection lead to him having to have tubes put in his ears. According to the dr were really, really gross from infection. Just paid off that bill in Jan. Over the weekend, while watching TV, DH asked me if the tv sounded muffled. Told him no. Said it was sounding just like it did for him last year. I don't need him sick again.

DS's clarinet needs all of it pads replaced. Have had 1/2 of them done, but need to get the rest done.

My car we have had to replace 3 of the 4 tires in the last 15 months. And of course the car has 17" low profile tires that aren't cheap. And the cost to convert over to non-low profile is 1000.00 before buying the tires.

Had to replaced the brakes friday on my car. When I pick it up, they tell me the 1 tire not replaced, needs to be replaced. Then informs me that the valve cover gasket is leaking and needs to be fixed.

Back in feb, we had the major water main break with damage to the master bathroom. While we are getting the money back from insurance, it is still another bad luck spell for us. And while they have to gut the whole bathroom, they won't replace the vanity/sink/mirror and toilet. What we have is in bad shape and my parents gave us the money to replace these, so the bathroom is all done.

Went out Sat and picked out what we want. Got home stripped DS bed, throw it all in the washer, got through to the spin cycle and nothing. It won't spin. Yes, the old girl is 18 years old so, I know she has given us many years, but couldn't she have croaked before I bought the bathroom stuff. The dryer is just as old and needs tlc, so after talking to the repair guy this afternoon, I might as well take the 450.00 it'll cost to fix the machine and go buy a new set.

And lets also not forget, that last summer, the a/c gave us all kinds of issue. The last time they came out, they told us we would more than likely have to replace that this year.

DD - bless her soul - was afraid to tell me she needed tie up black tap shoes, instead of the pull on ones she has for competion. These we can borrow from another dancer. She just didn't want to be another burden to us. Which of course made me cry, which made her cry. Told her she isn't a burden, never would be and to let me know what she needs. Sooner rather than later, so mom can find a way to make it happen.

I know that's a light - very faintly showing - at the end of this long, dark tunnel. I just hope it gets brighter and bigger here real soon.

If you made it through all this thanks for listening.

Soemtimes it just feels like we go through these bad spells....the old 'when it rains, it pours" adage.

. I'll say a prayer that things start looking up for you.

Here's my theory Jen: You know how people say their "luck ran out"? At some point, I think you can run out of bad luck too. I'd say you're due to turn the corner any time now. Hang in there.:)

If it makes you feel better to hear this- you are not alone. My life (my families life) has been a nightmare since Nov. 2009 also. Just get over one big hurdle only to have another bigger one thrown at us. What is really hard is when several hurdles at one time is thrown at us. Somehow, some way, we survive it. I keep up my faith and push forward.

I'll pray that you can move forward too. Sooner or later (at least I keep telling myself this) things have to get better! :thumbsup2

:grouphug: I hope you've seen the worst of it & things start getting better. I'll be sending good thoughts & prayers your way. Hang in there...:flower3:

What a great way to put it! :thumbsup2

OP, I have so many friends in your shoes & keep holding my breath we won't join the party anytime soon ourselves. I truly wish some great good fortune comes your way.

We've been down before (and are still sorta) but there has to be an end to it!
One thing at a time as well...that helps me feel less overwhelmed.

:hug:Well all of that stinks.I think you need to say out loud to the Universe "We are finished with the hardships we have encountered. We have learned from them in many ways, but we are ready to move to happier times."Sometimes you've just got to say it out loud.:grouphug:

Girl, you need a whole bunch of these...:hug::hug::hug:.

I hope things start to look up for you soon!

Wow, that is stinky! I know that all the things that are going on really suck but sometimes focusing on the positives can help you lift your mood you know?

Like not only do you have great kids, but they have a roof over thier heads and food on the table and get to do great activities like tap and clarinet. You live in a great country, you have great friends etc. whatever. Focussing on the good instead of the bad helps me put things into perspective.

Maybe think about doing some cheap fun things together as a family to lift morale like having a board games night.

Good luck, it will get better!

Take comfort in knowing you're not alone, seems like that's me, I mean my luck seems to always be bad, I can't even remember when I've ever had anything really good happen to me other than a healthy daughter. So you're not alone. You can take comfort in knowing in your misery there are others just as miserable.

For the washing machine, before you spend $450 either on a repair or new machine, try looking at You Tube for instructions to fix it yourself.

It may not fit your situation, but I know that many people here as well as my sister have avoided costly repairs to washer and dryers by using You Tube!

And I don't know what else to say. I am so sorry you are hitting a bad patch of luck. There was a year and a half (2000-2001) that we had an awful time. True, we got married that year, but three weeks after the wedding, my husband lost his job the day before Thanksgiving and and I was robbed at gun point two weeks after that. They got my wedding ring. The rest of the year went downhill from there. Two more lost jobs by lay-offs and we had to move apartments because I was too afraid to sleep at night (I was robbed in the parking garage). We were bleeding money by the end of that madness.

All I can tell you is that it does get better. I am shocked that we made it through our bad spell still married and liking each other. It was tough and I wish you the best of luck in turning things around.

I'm so sorry to hear about everything that has been going on.. I know it's not a huge help, but there IS a cheaper way to fix a clarinet than having to take it to a music shop! I used to re-pad my flute ALL the time.. so I know it's possible on woodwinds.

Here is something you can try, if you're comfortable with it.

I completely understand. I have been stuck in a patch of bad luck for about 6 years now. What my therapist keeps telling me is that at the end of the bad luck, when it all begins to turn around, you will appreciate it much more than those who had it all along.

So basically, you appreciate the good things so much more when you've gone through the bad.

I just got scheduled for 3 more medical tests. I've had 8 new diagnoses in the past 6 years. This has been a very long string of bad luck. But, I appreciate the days when I'm feeling good and the days of good appts and good phone calls more than ever because of the bad.

{{hugs}} Sometimes when it rains it pours :(. I hope things get better for your family.
