. . . have a package booked in your name with free dining and book a 2nd room in your name (room only--possibly AAA rate)?

The room with free dining already has DD, DH & I attached to it. DD needs her own bed and bathroom now, and I'd like to book one for her if Disney will let me (AND if it is available). Anyone know Disney's official "rule" on this?

Do you mean that you'd try to book a 2nd room in your name...don't know how they handle that at check in, but probably would not be a biggie, except for room location. That's the tricky part. Or do you mean to try to book it in DD's name? If that's the case, it depends on how old DD is...you may run into difficulty if she's clearly a child - they may insist that an adult be registered in the same room as the child is, then you have to get your package applied on both rooms to get things to work right with your Key cards.

If they do allow you to book a 2nd room in your name (with the idea being that DD would just sleep in that room) gotta say, you'd be taking some big chances there. It's not all that easy to get connected rooms (with an actual inside door between the two rooms) or even to get adjoining room (no inside door, but actually side-by-side rooms). Even when requested long in advance--they have a very limited supply, and they do not guarantee availability on specific room requests: it's really luck of the draw as to if you get exactly what you requested when you check in. Even if you made a big deal at check in about how the child's room needs to be by the adult's room, they'd just tell you that she needed to be sharing a room with an adult anyway...

However, if she's older teen/young adult they don't have any problem booking her a separate room but her package would be attached to the room card on that room, not yours. And, keep in mind that even if they know she's your dependent, and it's booked together, the room they give her will just be in the general vicinity of your room...it will not necessarily be all that close to your room. If you're lucky, it could be next door or across the hall. However, it could also be on a different floor & opposite side of your building, too. If she's older, that's no big deal. But if she's a young teen you might want to think twice about trying this idea.

Maybe you'd be better off in a larger moderate or deluxe room where you could all be in the same room?

How old is your daughter? WDW will not permit a child under 18 to occupy a room alone.

And if the reservations are not linked there is very little way that they can give you a connecting room, even if you request one.

We did the same thing, except with adults last September at PoP.

We had three adults "listed" in a room with free dining, then the third adult booked his own room for sleeping at AAA rate. Paying the extra adult fee at Pop was actually less than just booking his own free dining plan room.

What I would do is send a fax to Pop Century listing both reservations and ask for connecting rooms.

The problem you are going to have with this is that when you book the rooms, WDW is going to ask you the names and ages of everyone staying in each room. This is assuming that the daughter is under age 18. If she is 18 or over you are not going to have to worry about it.

Carol didn't have this problem because everyone involved was an adult and the third adult could just book their own room.

WDW won't guarantee connecting rooms for a party with two adults and one child. You could ask, but it would be only a request. A preference for a teenager to have her own room won't be enough to trigger a guarantee. I guess you could split the adults between the reservations (put Dad on the room only with the daughter), if you don't mind the fact that your minor daughter could be staying in a totally different area of the resort from you. Not to mention the fact that if for some reason they discover an unaccompanied minor is staying in the room, there could be other problems.

NOPE. Not at all worth the risk to me.
We'll just bring the air mattress - AGAIN.
DD can just get over it.

Yes, that's probably your best bet...when we booked in Feb. 2008 for May 2008 we did book DD's room in her name (she's 19) and they did take her Name & phone number, etc. as if she was an adult. The room & card were issued in her name when we registered (even though Daddy's credit card paid! ) They knew about the request for "close" rooms, but had no adjoining rooms if we wanted our request for king bed to be given first priority, which we did. So she & BFF's room was actually on a different wing of the same building...the room numbers sounded close (1332 & 1336) but actual locations were quite a hike away from each other: around corner, down corridor and round another corner halfway down next wing. Totally out of our line-of-sight & hearing. Which was actually fine with us, because she's quite the responsible, mature type (nobody believes she's as young as she really is.)

Would have been horrible if she was younger/flightier/rowdier, though.

If it were just the 3 of us I'd say yes, absolutely. However, we're a part of a GG that consists of family members who do not want to stay anywhere except POP, AND they want me there too. To them, I'm the "Disney Expert" in the family. Apparently, I'm to lead them around by their noses every minute of the day for 6 days.

Dear Lord: Why, oh why, did I ever tell SIL that going to WDW with the entire family sounds like a "fabulous idea to me?" JK

It'll be okay really. DD is still young, and she can cope with the air mattress one more time. The extended family members will leave after 5 nights, and we'll get to spend our final 3 nights at BWV where we'll have more personal space. All's well that ends well, right?

At 19, for the purposes of WDW resorts, she IS an adult.

The do block the GG rooms out together so I would say you would almost be assured of having connecting rooms in that batch of rooms and you could make those yours.

We had a GG in Dec/Jan covering two hotels and all checked in at the same time - and the rooms were blocked out so we had to wait for them to be ready and they were all in a line at both hotels. When we checked in they had us in certain rooms but we wanted my room to connect with another one of the groups and we just rearranged that at the desk.

That might work with a grand gathering...but you should still have an adult registered in that room. I don't know how grand gatherings work, but would it look odd to have the same adult registered in two rooms in a grand gathering?
