Ok, I know its a long shot at winning, but I need to be prepared. :rotfl2:

I won a radio call in this morning. I got a small prize for my call this morning (3 cd's). My name is now in a drawing for a larger prize. There will probably be 50-60 or so people in the drawing, so the odds aren't all that terrible. The prize would be a trip for 2 from Seattle to Atlanta to see Kenny Chesney, Dierks Bently and new comer Jake Owens in concert. Including backstage pass to meet Jake.

I've been to 3 Kenny concerts. All with my best friend. She pays to belong to the fan club, so we always get great seats. She is a HUGE Kenny fan. I could take her. She would love it. I have a feeling she will sort of feel entitled to the trip, since she always gets us great seats for concerts.

Or
I could take my daughter. She is 8. She loves country music, and always wants to go to concerts with me. However, I can never afford to take her to any. The last one I went to I spent $90 on one ticket. I worry slightly about taking her to a loud concert, I would make her wear ear plugs. When I told her I was in the drawing she quickly said "If we win we can leave dad and H at home, they wouldnt like it anyway!". So, she is also feeling a little entitled to the trip.

Or
I could take my mom. She babysits for me two days every week and would love a get away. She likes country music, but isnt really into loud concerts. I dont think she's ever been to Atlanta. She would be the easiest of all the choices to travel with. Old enough to take care of herself and would probably buy me a meal or two while we were there :lol

Or
I could take my husband. But, he doesnt like country music, so he probably wouldnt enjoy it. And he was just in Atlanta for work a couple months ago.

I would take your daughter. It seems to mean a lot to her and what a great way to spend quality time with her. I'm sure your friend will understand.

Good Luck

I would take DD. Of course she feels entitled, she's 8, you're mom.
But I would also explain to your friend that your DD is very excited and you hate to disappoint, you need one on one bonding time, etc. Something to spare her feelings. She may be disappointed but as a good friend hopefully she will understand.

Good Luck!! :thumbsup2

How exciting! :thumbsup2
I'm another supporter of taking DD. Your friend, mom & husband will understand. And it doesn't seem like something your mom would be really excited about from your post. Not as excited as your DD, anyhow.
It would be something she would remember forever and a great opportunity for some mother/daughter bonding (I'm not implying that you NEED that, but that's never a bad thing).

Good luck in the contest!!

As a fellow HUGE Kenny Chesney fan...take the best friend!!! Yes, she'd understand if you took the daughter, but secretly she'd be wishing she were going. Does the daughter like KC as much? Take the daughter to a different concert.

I wanted to add one more note for the best friend. If you always go w/ the best friend then it's kind of a tradition. So, you should keep it that way, Right? Hey, if you can't decide at all you can always take "me" a total stranger...just kidding.

I voted your best friend. No doubt she would appreciate it most.

How do you think your DD will do at such a long concert? It's sure to be several (4, even) hours long with three performers and set changes. We took our DD's (5 and 6) to a concert (Sara Evans and Brad Paisley) last winter, and even with earplugs, they thought it was too loud, and they were ready to leave after just a little while. Maybe they were too young, but I don't think they appreciated the live aspect of the performance, and would have enjoyed it just as much if they had been watching CMT.

That being said, I just won tickets to see Martina McBride this weekend! I saw Kenny Chesney last weekend at the New England Country Music Festival at Gillette stadium. As much as DD6 loves Kenny Chesney, she would have died at that concert.

Good luck!

Take me! :lmao:

No, seriously- I'd take your Mom or your DD. I think taking your Mom would be nice, though! Quality bonding time, too.:goodvibes

Forget the poll, I live in Seattle and would go with you in a heartbeat!

I voted to take DD. My DD11 wanted to go with me to the Kenny concert in June and I considered taking her since she is a big country music and Kenny fan, but I didnt want to hurt DD7's feelings. I think a trip like that would be a very big deal to an 8 year old. She would have a great time and your best friend saw Kenny a month ago.....

Ok Guys POV here.

Husband.....don't take, if he doesn't like country music why would he want to fly to a whole nother state just for a country concert. I would rather my wife go and leave me with the kids so I can watch sports and eat what I want with no hassell....lol

Best Friend.....Tradition yes, but in home town....part of fan club yes, doesn't entitle her to YOUR tickets, only tickets to HOMETOWN. Would she like it of course, will her feeling be hurt..hmmm, do you want a friend that would hold a grudge for taking your mom or daughter to a concert?

Mom...This would be my first choice, but you said she doesn't like loud concerts so that is a knock on points there. The trip and thought are nice but if she wont enjoy herself becuase it is too loud in return you may not enjoy the trip because you might be hearing all bout it from mom.

DD....Nothing like expercing your childs forst concert with them. I took my son to a huge concert last month that he was dying to go to, we all had fun and he will remmeber it forever. Now like a poster above said, it is a long concert. The concert we went to was 6 hours, and by the 5th he was ready to go....but if it is no longer than a 4 hour concert she will probably be fine, especially just having the mom and dd time and the whole first concert to go along with it.

so in my order I say you should take

dd (something to cherise with eachother for life)
mom (a nice gesture for what she does to you)
friend (you always go, but that's just it, it's not a first nor a last concert)
husband (if he doesn't like country let him be home for a couple of days doing what he wants)

i vote for DD... a few years back i 'won' an auction (ok i was the only bidder) for a radio station promo they were doing to raise funds for the salvation army.
i won 10 tickets to the hard rock at universal studios orlando on new years eve to see godsmack, 10 back stage passes to meet them and 3 hotel rooms.
ok, ok so it was 10 tickets and i didn't have to choose between 4 different people. but we traded the 3 rooms for one cool suite, and sold the remaining tickets and back stage passes cheap to some of the (very super greatful) fans that were there, pretty much paid us back for our travel, tolls, and food.
took my then 8 year old dd and she LOVED it!!! still talks about it like it was the best day of her life!

I voted for your daughter, but I understand your reservations about such a loud concert, especially for that length of time for an 8 year old. You might talk to your daughter about it and see if she would agree to go to another concert with you the next time KC or one of her favorites are in town. Besides the concert being so long, you and your best friend will be able to have some nice meals, do a little shopping, and maybe have a spa treatment. Your DH and other child might also feel left out if they didn't get to go.
