If I went with FD if it comes out for Jan. For a standard room, if a decent AP rate came out later, would I be able to keep the standard room with the AP discount or is there a chance I could loose the standard when dumping the FD package?

Not all rooms are available with discounts. It's possible a standard room would not be available with the AP discount for your dates. In which case you would have to decide to either pay full rate or move to a room with the discount.
