I agree with what the PP said Diane!
When Kass and I went I drug her out of bed and we were in the cab by 7:30. (Remember, this was September, slowest season of the year and we were there on a Thursday.)
After a stop at the Starbucks at Citywalk, which I might not have survived without, we were in line at about 8:15am. I think we were maybe 15-20 back from the gate. Within 15 minutes, there were probably 100 people behind us, and by park opening, maybe 200. I grabbed Kassidy's hand and pulled her along behind me and speedwalked to the Forbidden Journey. At one point through Seuss Land she wanted to stop and look and asked me why we were walking so fast. I had her turn around and look at the hoarde behind us and said "You see all those people baby? All of those people are going to the same place we are, and if we don't get there first, we'll have to wait an hour in line." She picked up her little feet and we bypassed everything straight to the castle. I took maybe 10 seconds to get misty eyed when we walked in to Hogsmeade like a big, geeky nerd, and went directly to the castle. There was already a sizeable line, but it took me a second to realize that the line I saw was for the LOCKERS, not the ride. Take NOTHING with you. NOTHING you can't fit into a pocket, they won't even let you hold a camera. We went through the castle and walked straight on to the ride, which was A-FREAKING-MAZING!
The gift shop at the exit was already crowded. Don't stop to shop! Do it at the end of your day. We then went straight to Ollivanders and had a 30 minute wait, and it was maybe 9:15am. Kass complained the whole time, she didn't want to wait considering we hadn't waited for a thing at Disney, we had walked right on everything all week. The show was really cool, but neither of us got picked to get our own wand. You exit to the shop, which is TINY! If you want a wand, my next suggestion is that you look online at the US website and pick out your wand before hand so you know which one you want and can just go in and find it. You have EXACLTLY 10 minutes to get in and out of that space before the next show lets out and you are completely overrun. I can't stress how tiny that space is. All the shops in general were nearly unbareable. Its amazing because everything is set to movie set scale and is completely authentic, but its not meant to hold a crowd. Zonkos and Honeydukes were a nightmare.
After Ollivanders we waited maybe 20 minutes for Flight of the Hippogriff. Seeing Buckbeak, lifesize and moving, was the best part. And Hagrid's hut. The ride is a joke, I timed it and it was like 30 seconds, give or take a few. I wouldn't sit in line for it.
Our day at Islands kind of started to turn for the worse after that. We shopped and got Butterbeer, (the frozen was WAY better), but once again I think I waited 20 minutes, which was stupid. If you are eating at 3 Broomsticks for lunch just wait and get it in there. The problems started when Kassidy noticed Dueling Dragons while waiting for Butterbeer. She was exactly 48 inches tall, which made her tall enough for everything at Disney but nearly nothing at Islands. She was 6 inches too short, not even close. Thats when the misty eyes started.
My suggestion is to take lunch at 3 Broomsticks as soon as it opens at 11. There was absolutely no line and plenty of room to sit. We had our food and were sitting in about 5 minutes. Super fast. It filled up quickly as it got later.
We left Hogsmeade around 12 after lunch and the area was nearly impassible. We went over to Superhero Island, where the tears got worse. Too short for the Hulk and Dr. Doom, the two things that are most noticeable and she wanted to ride when she saw them. After that she wanted to leave because she was convinced she was too short. We were able to get on Spiderman and Dudley Do Right, (we were SOAKED. Not like a little wet, but like sprayed by a fire hose soaked. It was beyond "fun wet".)
By the time we got to Jurassic Park there was a 20 minute wait and Kass was just done and wanted to leave. I think we left around 2:30 and got back to the Poly at 3:15ish. The 10 minute cab ride was close to $50 each way.
Try the Fish and Chips at 3 Broomsticks, it was fabulous!
