If I say it out loud, will my wish come true.. PTR May 2011(Link to TR pg41)

We are trying Via Napoli ourselves this trip. I think you made a great choice from all the reviews I've read.

You know Kathy, I looked at your possible ADR list like 4 times and I didn't see Via Napoli. I was surprised since I know Nicki recommends it. I must have missed it. I orginally had Via Napoli on arrival day and now after 100 changes in the last 4 months I am back where I started.:confused3

I'm in :) I enjoyed your TR from your last trip :)

:welcome:
Thanks for joining. The more help I get with my indecisiveness the better.

Just a little update.....

My ticker now says 1 month!!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Okay, so it also has a few weeks and days but it still says 1 month!

We did SWW last May and DD was very upset that we weren't going to go back in May. Whenever I mention Disney she begs to go back in May so she can see Luke Skywalker. It just gets so busy! By the afternoon there was no room to move. We went over Memorial Day so maybe it will be a bit better but I doubt it. Star Wars fans are crazy people.

May can't get here soon enough!

I just have to tell you that I am here reading from the beginning....Now I KNOW that your PTR says May and that you posted VWL as your resort on my PTR so I am reading:surfweb: with a chuckle to see how this all falls out.....

I have changed things so many times. I tried to paste links in the beginning but when I click on them they don't work, so I gave up. I'll have to include post and page numbers so people don't have to go page by page for chit chat.

Oh, I have some SWW pictures in my tr from last year on page 7 if you are interested.

COLOR="Green"]First- A little switching
I have decided to switch the AK and IOA of days (I know, I know more switching. I am done now! I feel good about my plans)
Sat. will be our IOA and AK will move to Tues. I have a huge surprise for Caitlin that she is going to get Tues. morning and I don’t feel as bad cutting time from our morning at AK as I do IOA if need be. I think that with WWOHP is it pretty important to be at IOA by park opening. Our AK will also start with breakfast at Boma, which has replaced RFC.

Islands of Adventure will now be our first full day.

We will start at Kona for an early breakfast.

bigkahuna.jpg

I have wanted to try Kona since I first saw it on the dining boards. Is it wrong that I have no idea what I am making for dinner tonight but I do know that 2 months from now I will be having a Big Kahuna and the yummy juice they have at Kona? What do they call the juice at Kona anyway? I know ‘Ohana is Stitch’s Crazy Juice and Boma is frunch?
We are going to eat as fast as possible and head straight to IOA. Park the car and do the walk to the entrance that seems to take forever.

We went to IOA last year and DH have been there twice in previous years. I really only need to spend time in 2 lands and I’ll be happy.

#1 Wizarding World Of Harry Potter
We are going to hit WWOHP first thing. I am not really sure how this will work. Caitlin is only tall enough to go on the Hippograff ride. I am the Harry Potter fan and I really want to go on Forbidden Journey. I think it will probably be best if we split up and DH takes Caitlin and I head to Forbidden Journey.
Once done DH and I can switch and he can go on Forbidden Journey or Dragons Challenge. I’ll probably skip Dragons Challenge seen I have been on the Dueling Dragon coaster many times.

Caitlin doesn’t really have a big interest in Harry Potter. Whenever ABC family has the marathons I put usually have them on and she’ll watch them but I don’t think she has seen many of them all the way through. I doubt she know any of the character names besides Harry. She does want to check out Honeydukes though. She saw the store on one of the trip reports I saw and insists on getting cotton candy.
I really want to try the cauldron cake.
I really want to spend time browsing the shops and I think other than the candy store she might get a bit board. If that is the case DH will probably take her on some rides somewhere else while I soak in the Harry Potter atmosphere.
I haven’t seen too much merchandise that is available but I really want to find something Professor Snape related. He is my favorite.
I would love to try Three Broomsticks but after having a big breakfast at Kona I doubt we will fit it in. I will try though. And frozen butterbeer is a must.
The other land I really want to check out is Seuss Landing. I love, love , love Dr. Seuss books. Unfortunately, when DH and I went to IOA in our early 20’s we spent all of our time on the coasters. We figured we’d leave the kiddy rides for when we had kids. Fast forward to 2010. We hit IOA with our kid and she has no interest what so ever in going to Seuss Landing. Just plain out refused. However, last month was Dr. Seuss month at her school so I am hoping she will have an interest this trip. If not I am going on my own.

I am thinking this is a perfect time for DH to ride the Hulk Coaster if he wants to ride it this year.
incredible-hulk.jpg

That’s pretty much all I need to do at IOA.

Last year Caitlin loved the Jurassic Park area so I am guessing we’ll spend some time there. DH also loves Spiderman so we’ll have to go on that. I don’t love food at IOA so unless we eat at Three Broomsticks I will probably have a light snack.

We need to save some room b/c we have an adr at 6:10 at ‘Ohana.
YUM!

I can’t believe I don’t have any pictures of the food from last year! I think DH was mad b/c we had a late adr on our arrival night. I’ll have to get some good food pics this time.

Yes, we are going to Kona and ‘Ohana on the same day. I just couldn’t fit Kona in anywhere else and I really want to try it. Besides any extra time at the Poly is always a plus.

Once again, I apologize for some big pictures. Is there anyway to stop photobucket from crashing all the time? Anyone use something else for photos?

YAY!!!! Another Potter fan that i've met on here :) I'm a huge fan of the story (my favorite was the 4th one), so of course I had to come here. It was a huge sacrifice for my mom since before this trip we had only done disney! The Caldroun Cake is DEFINTIELY A MUST DO!!!!!! My mom and I tried one on our last trip and I think it maybe my favorite cake baked dessert i've ever had (and that means alot coming from me). Honeydukes and three broomsticks were some of my favorite places because the people were some of the most helpful in the park for us and three broomsticks was very organized. I didn't try the cotton candy there but it looks really good, Let me know if it was good or not please. Now I have a few tips for you so you can maximise your experience with Harry Potter Land. First of all DO NOT BRING ANY BAGS INTO THE PARK IF YOU CAN HELP IT!!!! The locker areas were all small and unpleasent and they also can run out of locker space within the harry potter theme park area. They have bigger lockers out towards the front of the park but they won't let you back into Harry potter land if it has reached capacity even if you were already in the park. my second peice of valueable advice for you is IF THE STORES ARE OPEN WHEN YOU ARE ARRIVING OR LEAVING DEFINITELY BUY YOUR MERCHANDISE AT THE ARIRPORT STORE. They have more of the desired products in stock and you don't have to carry them all over the park with you. It just makes for a more pleasent enjoyable experience. This excludes treats and products that can only be bought within the park such as butter beer and caldroun cakes. My third peice of advice for you is USE SINGLE RIDER LINE FOR FOORBIDDEN JOURNEY AND CUT THROUGH THE LOCKER ROOMS TO GET TO EITHER THE STAND BY LINE OR THE SINGLE RIDER LINE. It seriously saved us probably a couple of hours of our time in total and allows you to ride the ride more times. We seriously rode forbidden journey 6 or 7 times more times than we probably would have in standby with out the cut through. Defintely more pleasent. My next peice of advice for you is GET THE FROZEN BUTTER BEER AND GO TO THREE BROOMSTICKS OVER THE CARTS. The three broomsticks was alot quicker and had great service! I seriously don't know why they got such a bad rep beforehand. It was our favorite place of the day. As far as the butterbeer is concerned, we tried both kinds. When we had the regular butterbeer first my mom and I both agreed that we were glad we tried it but it wasn't anything special. When we tried the frozen butterbeer we were very pleasently surprised at how differently it tasted. I know it doesn't have the traditional feel to it but you'll defintely enjoy the butterbeer alot more if you get the frozen kind. Also I and going to let you now for the caldroun cakes, you defintely want to share it. It is very rich and can easily be shared. It is defintely worth having. My final peice of advice for you is to get there early. Even when we went in early january there was still a line to get into the park in the early to mid afternoon. luckily we got in right away. I'm also going to let you know that THE FROG CHOIR AND TRIWIZARD TOURNAMENT WERE AWESOME!!!! They were a great break in the day and allowed my mom and I to really take in the surroundings. With all of that being said, Hope you have a great trip!

Mmmm I can't wait to hear how Via Napoli was, I can't wait to try that place! :thumbsup2

I really have to see the Harry Potter movies before I go to Universal.

I can't believe you're going in less than 2 months now! When your trip is over I'll still have 4 months left to wait!

Thanks for all the great tips:thumbsup2

We are going to try to get there as early as possible, but sometimes getting out the door early is harder than it sounds. I purposely left our night before free so we can go get to bed early.

I really hope I remember to leave me bag at the hotel. DH usually carries a backpack when I skip my bag and we can't really do any big rides together anyway.

I'm sorry.... share the cauldron cake:confused3 I don't know about that one?

Where is the store that you mentioned?

Via Napoli looks so good. I have read some bad reviews though.People saying the crust wasn't cooked all the way, things like that. I can deal with it being ordinary but not gross. I know you can always send food back but then you have to spend more time in a restaurant. I am hoping it will turn out okay.

I would watch the 1st four movies if you could. They always have marathons on ABC family where they show them all.

Don't worry, when you get back from your trip I'll still have like another 3 years to wait until my trip.:sad2: At least you get to go back every year.
My trip isn't here yet and I am already bummed that it is almost over.

I agree with what the PP said Diane!

When Kass and I went I drug her out of bed and we were in the cab by 7:30. (Remember, this was September, slowest season of the year and we were there on a Thursday.)

After a stop at the Starbucks at Citywalk, which I might not have survived without, we were in line at about 8:15am. I think we were maybe 15-20 back from the gate. Within 15 minutes, there were probably 100 people behind us, and by park opening, maybe 200. I grabbed Kassidy's hand and pulled her along behind me and speedwalked to the Forbidden Journey. At one point through Seuss Land she wanted to stop and look and asked me why we were walking so fast. I had her turn around and look at the hoarde behind us and said "You see all those people baby? All of those people are going to the same place we are, and if we don't get there first, we'll have to wait an hour in line." She picked up her little feet and we bypassed everything straight to the castle. I took maybe 10 seconds to get misty eyed when we walked in to Hogsmeade like a big, geeky nerd, and went directly to the castle. There was already a sizeable line, but it took me a second to realize that the line I saw was for the LOCKERS, not the ride. Take NOTHING with you. NOTHING you can't fit into a pocket, they won't even let you hold a camera. We went through the castle and walked straight on to the ride, which was A-FREAKING-MAZING!

The gift shop at the exit was already crowded. Don't stop to shop! Do it at the end of your day. We then went straight to Ollivanders and had a 30 minute wait, and it was maybe 9:15am. Kass complained the whole time, she didn't want to wait considering we hadn't waited for a thing at Disney, we had walked right on everything all week. The show was really cool, but neither of us got picked to get our own wand. You exit to the shop, which is TINY! If you want a wand, my next suggestion is that you look online at the US website and pick out your wand before hand so you know which one you want and can just go in and find it. You have EXACLTLY 10 minutes to get in and out of that space before the next show lets out and you are completely overrun. I can't stress how tiny that space is. All the shops in general were nearly unbareable. Its amazing because everything is set to movie set scale and is completely authentic, but its not meant to hold a crowd. Zonkos and Honeydukes were a nightmare.

After Ollivanders we waited maybe 20 minutes for Flight of the Hippogriff. Seeing Buckbeak, lifesize and moving, was the best part. And Hagrid's hut. The ride is a joke, I timed it and it was like 30 seconds, give or take a few. I wouldn't sit in line for it.

Our day at Islands kind of started to turn for the worse after that. We shopped and got Butterbeer, (the frozen was WAY better), but once again I think I waited 20 minutes, which was stupid. If you are eating at 3 Broomsticks for lunch just wait and get it in there. The problems started when Kassidy noticed Dueling Dragons while waiting for Butterbeer. She was exactly 48 inches tall, which made her tall enough for everything at Disney but nearly nothing at Islands. She was 6 inches too short, not even close. Thats when the misty eyes started.

My suggestion is to take lunch at 3 Broomsticks as soon as it opens at 11. There was absolutely no line and plenty of room to sit. We had our food and were sitting in about 5 minutes. Super fast. It filled up quickly as it got later.

We left Hogsmeade around 12 after lunch and the area was nearly impassible. We went over to Superhero Island, where the tears got worse. Too short for the Hulk and Dr. Doom, the two things that are most noticeable and she wanted to ride when she saw them. After that she wanted to leave because she was convinced she was too short. We were able to get on Spiderman and Dudley Do Right, (we were SOAKED. Not like a little wet, but like sprayed by a fire hose soaked. It was beyond "fun wet".)

By the time we got to Jurassic Park there was a 20 minute wait and Kass was just done and wanted to leave. I think we left around 2:30 and got back to the Poly at 3:15ish. The 10 minute cab ride was close to $50 each way.

Try the Fish and Chips at 3 Broomsticks, it was fabulous!

P.S. (And this is my last one this morning, I swear, LOL), the dessert stuff, like the cauldron cakes, IMO all looks a lot better than it tastes. We threw ours away. And the Chocolate Frogs are HUGE. Kass got two, just for the cards and those suckers were $10 a piece and as big as a solid chocolate Easter bunny.

LMAO!!! I was thinking in the same terms. I still have no idea how I am going to pay for this. :scared1:

Hmmm. Out the door by 7:30? We do have Kona scheduled at 7:40 which I was thinking would bring us to 8:20ish. I'll leave it up to DH to decide I guess. I guess if we get there too late we can try before closing time or try again early Thurs. We have no breakfast planned on Thurs. so maybe it would be better to do IOA Thurs. and US Sat. DH can do whatever he wants, I just don't want to miss my Kona breakfast:sad2:

$50 each way for a 10 minute ride? We are renting a car for the entire 9 days for $180!

The height limits at Universal are tough when you have kids our age. They are too small but they really want to ride the coasters. Caitlin was upset last year too. I am so glad she can ride pretty much everything at Disney, it made life so much easier. She is not even 48" so she can't ride Forbidden Journey yet either. I am not as concerined about WWOHP lines since DH and I will probably split up anyway. It will be a lot easier waiting in line without Caitlin.

I have a feeling the small shop are going to drive me crazy! I like my personal space:laughing:

Moneywise I can't believe are trip is almost here! My next 5 paychecks will probably be pretty teeny since I haven't been working much. There are tons of 12-8 overnights up to take in April but I am really trying to avoid them after what happened last month. Thankfully all I have left to save for is dining and spending money. I still need to get our Discovery Cove tickets and Universal tickets but those are DH's responsibilty since I would be happy having those days for Disney.

Did you pick your resort yet?

I figured I'd get the next day out of the way since I can't really plan too much.

Wednesday is our Discovery Cove Day!!!:woohoo:

discovery-cove.jpg

I still haven't told Caitlin we are doing this. DH did ask her last night if she wanted to swim with dolphins and she said she isn't sure. I guess she is afraid that the dolphin is going to dive underwater with her holding on. We will probably tell her the night before. I have no idea why I am keeping everything a secret from her this trip:confused3 I guess it is just easier somehow.

Food is provided all day so we will have breakfast and lunch there.

I am hoping to spend a good amount of time relaxing there since DH and I left at like noon when we went. I am hoping to make it to about 2 or 3. We'll see.

Dinner will be at T-rex
t_rex_at_downtown_disney-2.jpg

This is pretty much the only time I have DTD on our schedule. I think the huge crowds that we experienced last year at DTD turned me off.

Since it is our only night there I would love to finish the night off at
ghiradeeli.jpg

I have always wanted to try the Gold Rush. I  peanut butter and chocolate.
goldrush.jpg

I think this will depend on how late we are there and what I order at T-rex.

That's it for this day. No late plans, probably just a swim and off to bed.

On our next "long" trip to Disney, I really, really want to do Discovery Cove. You'll have to let me know how it turns out before I make a final decision. I just think this is something hubby would really enjoy.

It is so tough to find any info on DC. I don't love spending time in the water so I think I will spend a good amount of my time taking a bunch of pictures. I haven't found to many reviews or pictures.

I know that they are doing an expansion that is going to open in June. Some sort of reef. It looks pretty cool. I am sad we are going to miss it, but it just gives us a reason to go back again. I think it is an additional fee though, like it's not expensive enough.

Just a little update:

I finally purchased our Discovery Cove tickets. I have been putting it off to make sure DH really wanted to do it. Unfortunately, when I logged on to purchase the tickets they had jumped from $229 each to $259:scared1: That's what I get for waiting. I didn't have my purse close to me so I figured I would purchase them this weekend.

I came over to the Dis and was scrolling down the main thread page and saw a post about Discovery Cove. The poster stated that they had purchased an Aquatica season pass to get a discount at DC. I called to find out about it and the prices for passholders to get into DC is $169 ($69 no dolphin swim) so I am now the proud owner of an Aquatica season pass:banana: (although I doubt I'll ever use it)

The season pass with tax was 117.
3 admissions to DC with tax 541

total paid 658

If I had purchased them through the site earlier I would have paid 827 (a few weeks ago it would have been 731). The poster that posted about the season pass saved me $169 (well, saved DH 169). That should pay for the overpriced photo package I know we'll buy.:cool1:

I also purchased our Universal Tickets.

Now, I just have to remember where I put the WDW tickets I got in the mail last week and we'll be good to go.

Now, I just have to remember where I put the WDW I got in the mail last week and we'll be good to go.

Awesome job on the savings!!!! I did not realize how pricey it was at Discovery Cove. I think we'll end up passing and do a "swim with the dolphins" when we do our cruise in 2013.
