If I reduce ADR number, will we lose reservation?!

Hi!

We have two ADRs next week, one at Akershus and one at CP, and the number in our party just went from 4 to 3 guests. I DO NOT want to lose these reservations and am more than happy to pay the $10 no-show fee for the 4th person. I'm even happy to pay the meal and/or buffet price for the 4th person!

I'm just not sure what to do. I'm afraid if I call Disney Dining to reduce the number, they will tell me there are no reservations for 3 people to be had and will cancel my reservation. If we show up with only 4 people, will they still give us the "next available table"? Are we going to be turned away? Put at the bottom of the list for a party of 3?

I'm sure other DIS'ers have had a similar problem. Please share your experiences with me! Thanks.

ADR availability is usually based according to table size. A party of 3 is seated at a table for 4. So reducing the number of guests on an ADR from 4 to 3 should not result in a problem if you call ahead of time. I'd do it now to avoid any problems when you check in at the restaurant.

All you have to do is call and ask for the number of people to be changed. You will keep the same reservation number and everything; only the number of people will be changed. It is no problem. You can even verify it on online in a few days.

Since both are CC guarantee reservations, they should be able to reduce the number without rebooking. If they can't see if a supervisor can help. If not, keep it as is.

I just did this a week or 2 ago. A friend's family was supposed to be joining us for our upcoming trip so I booked for 8. They will not be coming along afterall, so I called and reduced all of my reservations to 5. The CM was polite and made it seem like it was a non issue to make the change. It took about 2 minutes for her to change 5 ressies.

According to WDW itself, there is no no-show fee charged on a partial party at a credit card hold restaurant. This might be different at a prepaid restaurant but the OP did not list any prepaid restaurants.

Just show up and tell them you have three people. You may want to look at the sticky thread (this has been moved to the Reservations board) at the top of the Reservations board, click on the link for Disney's website's dining FAQ, print the part that says there will be no charge for a partial party, carry it with you when you travel to WDW and be sure to check your credit card statements to see if you've been charged anyway.

Thank you all SO much! I will call Disney Dining and ask them to reduce the number. I did check the FAQ on the Disney Dining website and saw the quote:

"I have a dinner reservation for 10 Guests at a restaurant that uses the credit card guarantee policy. Only 8 Guests are able to make it to dinner. Will I still be charged $10 each for the 2 Guests who were unable to attend?

No. As long as you honor the reservation, then there will be no charge to your credit card."

That's great news! I'm so happy! My DS4 would have been disappointed if we didn't eat with Winnie the Pooh and my DS is joining us for her return trip to WDW - she hasn't been there for 23 years! So Akershus was a special treat for her (and, well, for me as well!). I couldn't believe we were able to get the reservations to begin with. I so did not want to lose them. Thank you all!

I had to call and 1 week after making reservations, our group went from 8 to maybe 9 people.
My CM said it is better to add the person now, as it is easier to take away a person than to add.
It will not affect the reservations at all.
So my nephew has until August 1st to make up his mind, I hope he can join us!

would call reservations and ask instead of trying to do online. as "some" places wil not seat you until entire party is there. we had that at O Hana's when my DBL had went to restroom...so then we had a 45 minute wait for the next table for 4

You had a different situation at 'Ohana. Your BIL was joining you, but wasn't at the podium so you had to wait because most, if not all, of the TS restaurants in DW will not seat until everyone is physically there.

In the OP's situation, one person is never going to show up, but the rest of the party is present, so they will be seated without the additional wait you experienced.
