If I like POR for this reason, will I like another moderate?

Dh and i just returned from a long weekend at POR and loved it! I am returning in June with just the kids and have booked POR again because I think the lush landscaping will offer lots of shade in the summer(we have lots of resort time planned)I am trying to book POR for an additional 5 nights but can only get an AP rate at ASMU.If I get lucky and one of the moderates opens up,should I take it? I don't want lots of wide open spaces where we will be walking in the hot sun, other than that I am not at all picky,TIA :sunny:

We prefer any of the moderates over all-stars, but POR is our favorite, with POFQ a close second. You sound a lot like my family so I'd try to go for any moderate that has an AP rate if I were you ;)

I am also pretty picky about the sun. For that reason we like POR (can't help it-Dixie Landings). We have stayed at CBR and CSR. To us they are not as lushly (is that a word? :confused3 ) landscaped.
Too sunny. :sunny:

We own at DVC and we would not stay at any of the other DVC resorts in the summer (well, maybe OKW) other than VWL, for that very reason.

Please tell me that the pools aren't shady. We are staying there in June (for the first time), and I would hope that at least the pools are in the sun!!! Being a FL resident, I am used to the sun... shade is nice, but not while swimming!!!!!

Also- did you take the bus to AK, or was it quicker to take the car and drive- seems to be pretty far.

I absolutely love POR.....it is just beautiful. If you like to stay there for the details and the landscape...then you will not like ASM. It just isn't as adult focused....but if you have kids, they might like it.

The pool areas have both sun and shade, which we really liked(and being from MA it was hot in the sun in April!)We didn't go to AK so can't help you with that. :sunny:

Interesting question because this is exactly why I switched our July ressies from CSR to our favorite POR.

The more I looked at pictures I was so afraid that CSR would feel even hotter because of the Southwest theming. The landscaping at POR plus the boat to DTD just seemed more inviting for a hot July vacation.

Still would like to try CSR but will save that for a winter vacation.

Hope I made the right decision myself. :sunny:

On a different note-I would say you may not be happy with CSR or CBR b/c they would be sunnier than POR. There is more open space. Funny how the same reasons many like POR, are the reasons we choose CSR or CBR and dont plan to ever stay at POR. We prefer a sunny, tropical vacation feeling when we visit WDW and POR to us is just too dark and the theme doesn't suit us.
As a huge fan of CSR and a fan of CBR, I dont think either of them is "hotter" they both have shaded areas-they are just more spread out. CSR has amazing landscaping that we love. I would suggest if POR is your favorite, you may not love a different moderate but its worth a try. It seems on these boards the people who love CSR/CBR dont care for POR and vice versa.
Although like another poster said, I agree, I would take any moderate over a value resort.

I agree with the tropical theme on vacation thing... and I live on the coast of FL! We couldn't get the AP rate for CBR (which we LOVE) for the days we needed, so we took POR... I think the kids might like it, though... my son will want to bring his fishing gear. It still beats staying home!!!

eeyoresmom: If POFQ opens up I would pick that. I would definitely pick ASMu over CSR if you want shade and landscaping. I was very pleasantly surprised with the courtyard outside my room at ASMu this year. I saw rabbits playing, and it felt very comfortable in January with 80 degree temperatures. I stayed at CSR in December during a cold streak--50s most days, into the 30s at night, and it still felt hot. The landscaping is indicative of the southwest, so not a whole lot of shade or trees.

I don't really care for CS but I've never tried CBR. I've stayed at CS two times and both were less than stellar. I usually stay at the Poly but I LOVE POR. We're staying there on our upcoming trip.

Thanks everyone.I'll do as suggested and try to get POR or FQ or keep my ressie at ASMU :sunny:
