If I don't want to wear a hat

I have very fine hair and usually pull it back into a ponytail while on vacation. My problem is that I will burn the part down the center of my head every time:headache: . I will wear a hat most days but wondered if anyone had a recommendation for a sunscreen. TIA

My aunt has very thin hair and she uses a parasol - she actually got it one of our trips a few years ago at France in Epcot - that way she doesn't have a hat making her sweat in the hot Florida sun and she won't get burned.

:goodvibes

Get some sunscreen for bald heads. My OH uses one as he shaves his head - it's a spray from Boots but I can't remember what it is called - and I use it on my parting. It stopped my head burning and meant I didn't need to wear a sweaty baseball cap or hat.

I didn't need to use much so it didn't make my hair look greasy either. I sprayed it on the palm of my hand and then used my other hand to dab it on.

Worked a treat :thumbsup2

try it before you actually go on your trip. we bought dd a sunblock that was specifically made for on her head and promised to be non-greasy. we put it on her right before heading out the door and she looked like she hadn't been bathed in a year! her hair was so greasy and nasty all day long - i was horrified! i will never trust the label again.

I believe Banana Boat makes a spray for the scalp...I use it on my younger daughter whose part always would burn when her hair was pulled back...it did say non greasy but I found it to be a bit icky. did stop her from burning and didn't mind the ick because her hair was pulled back anyway and showered at night when we got in:goodvibes

I need to find something for my scalp too. I am very fair skinned and my part always burns. If anyone else has any ideas please post them.

I have always had very fine hair and DH's is thinning a bit :rolleyes1 and his family has a history of skin cancer so we're always looking for ways to protect our scalps from the sun. Unfortunately, I'm not a hat wearer either. We've used Coppertone sports spray and it works really well and I've never noticed a greasy or sticky feeling. We reapply every couple of hours too.

For a part or bald spot, I recommend Ocean Potion Dab-on Stick. It's liquid, but in a dab-on sponge-tip applicator that is about 3/4 inch wide. Works well for the part in your hair. Not for full-scalp application unless you are completely bald.

My hair is horribly thin, and red besides. I've recently taken to wearing scarves tied around my head when a hat won't work (such as swimming outdoors.) It actually looks quite flattering, as it keeps the wet hair much more tamed than it otherwise would be.

I just use regular sunscreen, put some on my finger and run it down my part line. I've never gotten burned there since doing that and because I'm keeping it on my part line, my hairs not getting greasy.

My hairdresser also suggested buying a conditioner for hair that's been colored because it has sunscreen in it. She said if I watered it down well in a spray bottle, sprayed it in my hair and styled it as usual it would work well. I had to look for the brands with sunscreen in them though and they don't all have it.
I tried it and it worked for me.
I have very fine, thin hair and I was surprised it worked.

I usually wear some kind of bandana or scarf in my hair. I also have fine (and slightly thinning in front) hair. They also make wide fabric headband things that work well too - if your hair is pulled back. My regular day-time Disney style is two braids with a bandana on my head.

Good information to know I hadn't thought about this. My little DD will get a burn if I don't use some on her scalp!

Another vote for Ocean Potion! :thumbsup2 It works well on faces, too!

Just checked the Walmart Canada site and it doesn't show Ocean Potion. The US one does and I'll be looking for it my next trip over the border.

Thanks for the help :):thumbsup2

I haven't heard of this one before - is it w/ the regular sun screens in the store?

Yes, in a little yellowish-orange tube/canister thingy. I think it has a blue cap. Another vote here for it. I use in on my face during the day, as well as on my part. Because the tube is so small, it fits anywhere, so is great to carry into the parks.

On the way to WDW though, make sure to include it in your 3-1-1 bag or the TSA agents will claim it from your carryon.:mad::upsidedow

I usually have to wear a hat to prevent my scalp from burning due to my thin hair. On my last trip I tried Banana Boat's Quick Dri Sport Body & Scalp 30 spf sunblock on my scalp and I did not get burned. I found it at Wal-Mart and it is in an orange bottle with a blue cap.

I'm liking this thread because I never knew they made special sunscreen to put on your scalp/head. I always wear a hat when I'm out in the sun all day, but when I was at Disney last time sometimes I wished I could go without one. Everyday I wore my Brewers hat or my Conan hat to protect me from the sun (I didn't mind wearing those hats because I was showing off 2 of my favorite things!), but sometimes I wanted to take it off! Next time I'll have to check out some sunscreens to put on my scalp- regular sunscreen is just too greasy to put on my hair!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ocean Potion sunblock. I am a fair redhead (think Nicole Kidman) and I have been searching for a good sunblock all my life (literally!) I've tried the el-cheapo NoAd stuff up to super expensive (for me) things like Banana Boat, Neutrogena and Hawaiian Tropic, only to have this fairly inexpensive brand work like a charm!

They have lots of different kinds and SPFs so you are bound to find one that suits you--I prefer the Anti-Aging SPF 50--It smells like baby asprin! (It's a refreshingly different smell from regular sunblocks--I don't smell like a pina colada).

Drugstore.com allows you to shop with Canadian Currency (see link) :thumbsup2 ) Hopefully you will find something there that you can purchase.
