Our SDD fp time is 7:20-8:20 pm. I really don't like that time, but I haven't been able to find a different time. If I can't find a different time, should we try to rope drop it?

Unless you're nimble and super aggressive and stay in the front of the very large TSL rope drop crowd you will be waiting 60-90 minutes anyway. The SDD rope-drop line frequently reaches all the way to the Little Mermaid stage show entrance.

I guess just keep checking. You never know what might open up, and I've had good success with getting FP+ changed to different times, even the hard ones like SDD.

Does the fact that there are 6 of us riding it make my chances of changing lower? We are rope dropping TSMM, so I guess I'll glance at the SDD wait times when we get there.

Just keep trying. I have had no issues getting FP for headliners same day i.e. SDD, FOP, ToT, RnR, etc. These are at various times and dates (maybe not holidays but any day I have wanted something I was able to get via Refresh). I never worry about not being able to get FPs at 60 days as I know I will be able to get them later.

Edit - 6 would could have some impact - I am usually dealing with four.

Many people rope drop it with success. You must be at the park early though; probably through security and at the gates 45-60 minutes before scheduled park opening. We were a little later than planned (maybe 25 minutes before scheduled park opening) and went to Toy Story Mania instead of waiting in what looked like a very long line (standby backed up to the main photo opportunity spot near the entrance to Toy Story Land. We didn't feel like we were "that far" back in the rope drop crowd when waiting but we were farther back than we normally are when we arrive earlier.

Others in our group arrived about 45 minutes before scheduled park opening on another day and waited 20 minutes in the ride line.

It is a long wait in order to avoid a long wait...

Park opening on the day we are going to DHS is 9:00 but I've been reading that they have been rope dropping early for Toy Story Land. What time does rope drop usually happen?

Rope Drop at DHS was 8:45am and only for Toy Story Land for us a couple of weeks ago with 9am scheduled opening.

We were at DHS on Saturday June 8. We were there for rope drop about 30-44 min early for 9am opening. I’d say we were middle of the pack. They did open the park about 15 min early, both toy story land and sunset blvd.

We went straight to RnR and walked on...they even had us walk through the video part. After that we went to toy story land. Waited 30 min for TSMM and another 30 for aliens. Both lines grew a lot while we were waiting. My kids were anxious to ride SDD but our FP wasn’t until 130. At 1030am standby was 75min. We decided to wait and got off the ride at 1130am, which we didn’t think was too bad.

The mob at RD can be scary depending on how the CMs handle the crowd. Have done it twice. Once, the CMs walked us from Sunset BLVD to the line for SDD. The other time, they just let the crowd go at Sunset BLVD. That was scary and you fell way back unless you ran and hoped you didn't trip or get run over.

Ok so I had heard all the scary stories about rope dropping DHS and TSLand, I am a local and today just went to stream the rope drop, here's the report: (park official opening time was 9am)
Got to the parking lot around 8:10am, got to park in the very first row.
Bag check was quick, with all the added desks it made it super efficient. There was a constant stream of people coming in from the bus loop and parking lot
Was inside and on Hollywood blvd right at the intersection of Hollywood and Sunset at 8:18am, there was a sizeable crowd in front of me.
Since I wasn't really there to ride SDD I stayed on the left side.
Rope drop has at 8:55am, no one was running, no one was pushing. Everyone was fast walking. While passing by Walt Disney Presents CM started yelling that SDD was down at the moment (felt bad for everyone) I stayed on my left and while people seemed confused of where to go, with some lining up for SDD anyways and most heading into TSM, I went to AS2 and walked on to the ride.
when I left he land about 15 minutes later SDD was still down. Not sure if today was a fluke but the crowd behaved, even though everyone was headed in the same direction it wasn't scary at all, unless you really hate walking in huge crowds of people

I would get to the park 45-60 minutes early and try to be as close to the front as you can you should be able to get on with in 20 mi utes of park opening. Most with FP will go to another ride so the line will not stop that much to let FP in. I would then go do TSM or may be A2S then TSM ( since TSM has an indoor line your not in the sun). If you really want to move your FP up same day FP is mote then likely your beat bet but even that is unlikely for a group of 6

This what I exsprince too just a lot of people walking to one place some walk faster then other. I have never been pushed or shoved bumped into yes but nothing bad

What is A2S? The abbreviations are not up to date and this is not on the list.
