If I buy a DDE card, how does it work?

Do I have to be there to use it, or can my husband use it as well? Does it only have my name on it? What do you have to show (ID?) because if he can show we are married, can he use it?

Also, is there any CS discounts?

There are CS discounts at the value resorts food courts and at Animal Kingdom Park.

Yes, you need to be present, or pay an additional fee ($25?) for an additonal card for your spouse.

It will cost you 85 dollars IN TOTAL if you have an AP and get a DDE card for you and a second one for your husband which means you'd have to spend 425 dollars at participating restaurants just to break even (20% of 425 = 85). And considering you could be eating at restaurants where you have a 10% discount with your AP or DVC membership anyway, it would take even longer to break even!

Also I see you're going at New Years - both New Years Eve and New Years Day are blackout days so the card will be useless to you on those 2 days.

I thought that the DDE card was valid for up to 10 members in one dining party, so as long as your husband ate all table service meals with you, you only need one card per party ($60) not $85.

That is correct. On another note, we have never had anyone check our ID. If the card has a males name on it and another male used it, no one would know. If the DHs name was on the card and the DW tried to use it, I guess that would be noticed.

But if the room ID or credit card you use to pay has a different name on it, you could lose the card.

So far, that is the only way that we have used the card. My name is on the card and I've paid for the meal. But I didn't know that I had to pay this way.

The card has worked out well for us this year and we've already easily saved our $60 back. Just don't forget the card. I did that once and my DW won't let ever let me forget it.

Yes, that is the way it is supposed to work. However, on some trips, freinds & I took turns paying for the meals...as long as I was one of the dining party, and showed my ID, they did allow another person to charge to their room. It may vary server by server, but they allowed us to do so.

I have been asked for ID twice at POP's food court! Go figure. When I asked the cashier CM why I would need ID, she said I may have found the DDE card on the ground. So, I asked her why I needed extra ID if I had my room key as well..which I did. She said, again, the cards could have been found together on the ground! So now, I have to take my drivers license with me as well...just in case. And to think people have called me obsessive when I tell them my license is always with me.
