If I bought DVC today......

Greetings friends!!!

If I bought DVC today (or I guess for ease of confusion, say April 1st, since today is the end of March!) would my use year be desiginated as April, or would it vary? If it were assigned as later this year, would that mean I would have to wait until that month arrived before I could first use my points, or would I get my first allotment of points at signing that need to be used before my 'new' use year...

I am sorry if this has been answered a myriad of times before...I monitor this board frequently, but not daily and I haven't personally seen this addressed...

Generally Disney is selling a use year that begins several months before the month of purchase. For example, it is currently selling an October use year. In April, it will be selling December (there is no November use year). If you bought today, you would get an allotment of points that was issued Oct 1,2000, which are good for a trip that ends by Sep 30, 2001. You could bank them into the Oct 2001 to Sep 2002 use year for use for a trip during that time. You would get another allotment of points in Oct 2001. Use year does not have anything to do with when you can go, which is any time of year, and when you can call to reserve, which is 11 months in advance at home resort, 7 at others. Which use year's points you use are determined by when you will be at WDW not when you call to reserve

Thanks drusba.....

I am aware of the general insignificance of the use year when it comes to booking etc., but it would have an impact as to if I can take advantage of MB. My wife and I are planning a trip in December 2001....If I understand what you are saying, I could buy in April, get a December use year, use MB to sell back this year's points, get a new set of points in December for use in our trip.....(also understanding that I can book the trip as soon as papers are signed right? It only matters that I have points the day of check-in, not day of booking.....) Is all this correct?

You seem to have a good understanding! Keep in mind that on April 1- the MB program will change. They will offer $5 per point on the 1st years points for VWL and HH purchases. VB will be $10/point. Good Luck!

I wouldn't try to time it yourself to get the December Use Year. Talk to your guide and explain what you are trying to do and they can probably help you out. The October Use Year would work for what you are trying to do. You would have October 2000 points to use for MB and then get more points in October 2001 for your December trip. You sound like you really have a grasp on what the program is all about.

Buy now if you're going to buy in April. MB goes does to $5.00 a point, and that's on only half your points.

I'm new at this too, but I don't really understand the allure of the MB program to begin with. I'd rather have the points.

Just my two cents.

They are selling October right now, but they will sometimes offer other months. Someone else just reported being offered December or March as alternatives. If you call by Friday you could get December and still get the current magical beginnings deal. Or as Pam suggested, October would still work for you.

I just added on 275 pts at WLV, and asked for March, as that is my current use year. That way it eases keeeping track of banking, and I had no problem.
