:surfweb:i have 200 points at AKV, and if i want to add on another 100 points with this new incentive, will i get 2008 as well as 2009 points? do you know how long this incentive will last? i have an August UY, in case that is important to the question. thanks....

Not sure if UY makes a difference. We have a Dec UY and when I spoke to my guide about adding on another 100 at AKV she said that we would receive 2008 points. :cool1:

:worship:i'm sorry for the second question, i should have asked this in the above post. we are trying to plan next year, i was thinking of going 4th of July week, is that crazy or no worse than any other time in the summer? and, if we wind up there that week, is there anything special going on that day or days ahead? thanks, again.....:flower3:

Karen, did she say how long this incentive will last? it would be great to get 2008 and 2009.:cool1:

I believe that if you add on before Aug 1st, you should end up with 2008 points (but it might depend on if they still have them).

I have been every week in July and the first two in August. 4th of July week was definitely more crowded than the others but we knew that ahead of time and just adjusted the way we did the parks and our stay.

In the past, they have done fireworks on the 3rd and the 4th. MK gets really crowded so if you want to be there, go early. One year, we were on our way back to FW when the fireworks went off. We got to watch them from the boat and it was beautiful==not to mention nice not being in crowds of people!

Good luck!

Sandi and Karen, thank you for the quick replies. i'm excited about adding, trying to work it into the budget, i didn't think i would want to add on this quick, we just bought last june. but, like all of you, i think it's some sort of infectious illness that's going around....:lmao:
did you both decide to add on, or are still in the debate stage?
i may have to reconsider that 4th of July idea. we can go anytime in June as well, and it's less points. why did you decide to add on to your homes resort rather than go with an additional home? i'm wondering which is the better purchase.:confused3

We just added on at AKV and our guide told me that October and December UY would still get 2008 points (we are October so we got them.) I don't know why August wasn't included but he made a point of saying only October and December.

We added on at BWV in May. Our use year is June and we got the 2008 points.

We're heading down on Thursday to spend the week leading up to the 4th. It'll be our second time going at this time of year. To say the MK get's crowded on the 3rd and 4th is an understatement! It's the only time I've ever been to WDW where they stopped letting people into MK because it was at capacity!! That said though, it is a truly magical time to be there as in true Disney fashion they do it up right. The fireworks are amazing!!

Do you know if the same special applies for SSR? If I add on points at SSR would I get 2008 as well????

I got bit by the add on bug quickly. I really wanted BLT but didn't know if I was ready to commit to the 160 (and it was rumored back in Jan to go to 200).

So, I bought a 50 point VWL contract with the intent to look at the models during my August trip. I closed on VWL Feb 2nd and started the add only 5 days later!!!

I ended up increasing the add on to 130, realized I didn't want VWL any more, put it up for sale (will close after the August trip) and just added 50 pts on AGAIN last week!!! I am now the proud owner of 180 at BLT.

So, I know where you are coming from. The 180 should be what we need, at least for a while, but even so, I wish I had been able to swing 100. One of the reasons I decided to sell VWL is that I really didn't like not being able to book all my stay at BLT from the beginning. Plus, I was finding it hard to make my trip work, without having to borrow difficult (ie: had to do 4 nights BLT and 1 night VWL at 11 months). I just really wanted to be at BLT from the beginning and then at 7 months, switch out if I wanted instead of hoping that I could switch back in to BLT.

Good luck!

I need help wrapping my mind around something. We just became DVC members yesterday (woo hoo!) with a 200 point split contract, BLT/AKV. We are not planning on using the points until at least April 2010. I was originally going to get a December UY, which would give me 100 2008 AKV points now. Then in December I would get 100 more, plus the 100 BLT points. My guide pointed out that if I took the February UY I would already have 200 points (100 2009 points at each) and then in Feb 2010 (only 2 months later than original plan) I would get 200 more. So I took the Feb UY. But I still keep thinking that I'm screwing up by passing up the 08 points. What would you guys do? I can still change it (I think) since we haven't signed anything yet. Thanks in advance for any help!

It may have to do with Kidani - iirc points for 2008 Use Year were issued only for particular UY months because of Kidani's May 2009 opening.

:)

With a Dec UY, in April 2010, you would have 300 points to use (2008 banked and 2009 AKV points & 100 BLT points). With a Feb UY, in April 2010, you will have 400 points (200 2009 banked AKV & BLT points and 2010 AKV and BLT points).

I think going with the Feb UY gives you more of the points upfront so I think you are fine.

But, which UY works better for your travel or does it not matter? That would be more important, IMO, then the points. I travel in the summer so I got a June UY--it gives me the points right before I travel and allows a lot of flexibility if I want to change (or have to cancel ) a reservation.

Good luck!

I think in most cases, if you add on during the UY, you get current UY points. With them just opening up more points at SSR (due to THV), I think there is a good chance.

It sounds like they are out of 2008 points at AKV, but maybe that has something to do with Kidani vs. Jambo. The best thing to do is call your guide and find out what 2008 points are available to you.

Good luck!

We're pretty flexible on travel times unless we're taking the grandkids, then it would most likely be late May or early June so I'm thinking for us the points are more important than the UY. Thanks for your help, that does make me feel better!

Can someone explain why my Guide gave me an Aug.UY, when i bought Kidani in June 08' on our vacation at WDW, and didn't offer me a better UY since he knew our vacations would more often than not be in the summer months, like june or july. he said since we would be vacationing in the summer, Aug. UY would be best. i didn't have a clue what he was talking about and went along since i felt he knew what he was doing. i only am understanding the cancellation/ UY process now since you all have explained it here on the board. very disappointed, with this, since i will add on, but, without a really good reason from him, i don't feel i can trust his word, and will ask for a new Guide. it seems it was more beneficial to Disney in some way, and not to us. i'll call him on Monday, and see if there is something right with this and i'm jumping to conclusions....:surfweb:

Just joined at BLT 160pt Aug use year..My husband and I will primarily be traveling non-summer (F&W and New Years ect..). First trip this Oct.
One exception is next June. We're planning to take my SIL, 3 kids and MIL - will need a two bdrm somewhere for 5-7 nights..so was thinking of doing a 100pt add-on to cover what we won't have. If I add-on at BLT before the end of 2009 I get 09 points and then could borrow from 2010 if needed right? But if I added on another resort before Aug - my use year - then would I also get 2008? Read above that Kidani would be an exception..(no 2008 pts) is that correct?
Thanks to anyone that can clarity to this :confused3

Yes, there is a very good chance that you would get 2008 points, but it does depend on what Disney has available. I believe that I just read that someone added on at BWV and got 2008 points. If there is another resort you are interested in, contact Disney.

However, most other resorts are cheaper via resale, but since August is just a few months away, finding a resale contract with banked 08 points might not be easy.

Good luck!

I do not think that the guides place as much emphasis on UY as we do as members. When new buyers call, they automatically offer them the default UY they ar selling. Right now, most are getting Feb UY with BLT unless they specifically ask for something else. So, anyone who is not up on the importance of UY, many are in the same situation as you.

Good luck!
