If DVC resorts opened with no parks, would you go

So since we own, it is my opinion that DVC could open the DVC resorts before the parks. Let’s take a hypothetical situation of DVC resorts opening and parks, pools, and restaurants are not open. Shops in Disney Springs are open with very limited number of people allowed in at a time based on sq footage (we have this going on where I live. I think our local Walmart can have 125 people in at a time, it works very well, but you do have to stand 6 feet apart outside in the cold to get in). Some Disney restaurants would deliver to the front of the resort with updates on time in the app. You would have to provide your own transportation. No magical express either, but DVC would be work out a good deal with the car rental companies. All banking of points would be suspended for 1 year to make it fair for all members. And since this is all hypothetical and to make sure it affects all members equally let’s say that everything would be closed for 1 year from when people started losing their points. Basically we would be getting exactly what we are due a room.

I for one would go, just to tell stories about it later. I would probably pool all my points and rent a bungalow for a week.

p.s. just like now, liquor stores are still open.

Yes, I would go. I plan on going on my August trip even if the parks aren’t open. I booked it anticipating a resort only stay with only Disney Springs being open.

Edited to clarify why: My husband is a frontline worker. To minimize the risk to the kids and myself, he moved into a camper loaned to us by neighbors. My kids are in first grade and preschool so, while they understand the need to stay home, they struggle with only seeing their father via FaceTime or through a window or storm door for the past 6 weeks. I will happily take 7 nights of the 4 of us being together any way I can after this.

Wouldn’t be worth the drive down for me. I can’t imagine doing a no park vacation when everything is normal, let alone with everything closed.

I agree. If all resort amenities were open and only parks weren't, I'd go for sure. But there's no way I'd go just to stay in a resort room.

I have done non-park stays before, but those were tied to other activities in the region. If Disney parks remain closed, but most of the resort amenities and other "no/low crowd" activities in the region are available, I am open to the idea of doing such a stay.

A resort only vacation might not be so bad. I mean, the only thing we were promised when we bought in was a room to stay in... Nothing else was ever factored into the purchase 😅

With the mess that DVC is right now, I think we are going to find out. Those resorts will be the first things reopened.

Depends on what is open and now what vacation time I want to use since losing a week of vacation this year since DH is switching jobs.

If the hypothetical situation is - room only - no pools then we are out. But don't call that a Resort Only stay. The word "Resort" implies that the whole place is open - rooms, community halls, activities, pools, restaurants - those things make up a "Resort". I would argue that the value of that stay would be greatly diminished and not what we bought into. DVC is ownership in the resort - its dues pay for the amenities in the resort. Forget the parks - if you're telling me all we can do is sleep in the room I don't care if we're in a Cascade cabin - if I can't go in a pool or eat in a restaurant I might as well rent a beach house with a pool in Ocean City MD and at least have the beach to look at and a pool to go in.

We are planning on doing a Resort Only stay for thanksgiving - but that is with the thinking that the entire Resort is open.

We have several trips scheduled between now and the end of the year. Most of them with all 12 of us and a couple with just my wife and me. Historically some of our trips are primarily resort trips. However, that's with fully accessible pools, dining, shopping, etc.

"IF" the pools were open we will go on our trips through October. We will still go for our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas trips if the resorts are open regardless of the accessible amenities.

I have done two resort only stays in our almost 20 years as owners. We can definitely do it.

If you say no pool, no restaurants, no shops, etc. Not so sure. We are in NY and not just worth the trip. We might as well be at home with our own conveniences. We will enjoy our pool this summer.

Having said that, if they do have pools, shops and restaurants open soon - we would still need to feel really comfortable with how the virus is going/how soon after they re-open are we willing to travel. Do we feel okay with a crowded pool area, sanitizing of rooms, etc. We all have different levels of being comfortable (immune system, medical history, etc.).

Our next trip to WDW is October............It all remains to be seen how it will play out.

I can't see how this would work. The number of eating establishments at the resorts, coupled with the restrictions on social distancing limiting the number of people in the restaurant at once, would be a significant problem for anyone in a regular hotel room. For DVC villas, it would be less of a problem because of the kitchens, but the logistics involved in getting groceries would be monumental due to *every* villa ordering food. The pools would have to stay closed, because there's no way to social distance there. The bus to DS would be limited as to the number of people it can take at once, which means a lot more buses would be required.

I'm not going to travel 1000 miles to sit on my studio balcony watching nothing happen in the MK, making my own meals, and being able to take an occasional walk or ride to DS.

I think no parks but open pools is a crowd issue. Some of the pools in summer have people soup tendencies to start with.
Isn’t that the truth! Maybe those empty reserved lounge chairs would get some actual use!

I think I would be going, we usually go in Jan so it's good to get out of the cold weather here in Jersey. The other issue is I wouldn't want to loose my points if I didn't have to. As someone else said in an earlier post I might consider pooling all my points together and renting a cabin villa. That would probably be a once in a lifetime opportunity since the point cost is so high. I too would enjoy a cocktail on the balcony looking out at the WDW landscape. I would hope that pools would be open. When we go in Jan. the pools aren't usually crowded because the weather isn't always as warm as it should be to enjoy the pool. Of course if that is the only distraction I could see the pools getting pretty crowded.

We drive down now so I would be able to bring my own food for at least a week and it might be nice to actually cook a meal in the room for a change. I would have a car so we could visit a grocery store if needed. I would hope that some restaurants would be open, that is part of the fun of going on vacation the dinning out. Also the leftovers make a nice meal latter on.

Anyway it's something to think about and may become a reality, resort open but not the parks...My vote would be yes I would go.

Yes, absolutely! My wife and I were just talking about this last night after the President's three phase plan was rolled out. If the resorts had all amenities available (pool, restaurants, etc.), we would absolutely go down. We had an April 12th trip planned (which we obviously cancelled) and were only going to do one day at the parks for that trip. We would have no problem going down just to relax, especially when the weather in New York isn't ideal.

Yeah no doubt. The pools weren't built to accommodate all of guests at the resort. The assumption is MOST guests will be at one of the parks or out and about elsewhere.

If pools are open we will go (we have June scheduled). Thankfully we are driving this time, so ME isn't something we needed to worry about. But we normally fly and rely on Magical Express. If that was the case we would have a big problem, because renting a car for 7 people plus luggage with car seats too is a pain. We enjoy Disney vacations because we don't have to worry about renting a car.
If no pools are open, I can't see it being worth going. I can't keep 5 kids occupied in a 2 bedroom suite all day.
