If Disney is so bad, why go?

There seams to be a lot of negative talk lately. So many posts about how Disney ruins everything or does everything wrong or costs so much. If you are one of the people who endlessly complain, why even go?

There are a lot of these posts lately defending Disney too. If those critical posts bother people, why not just ignore them?

If they don't like it... Don't go. I totally agree. Why bash it on a Disney fan site?!

It's just the nature of some people to complain. :confused3

I for one - love Disney, and know that no one is perfect, but Disney will go out of their way to make your experience as close to it as possible.

I haven't seen a single post that claims WDW "ruins everything " or does "everything" wrong.

Pointing out a problem doesn't mean that the entire institution is worthless.

I think it is a natural progression of society to feel entitled to something more than expected. Back when the economy was booming, Disney set the bar high. Over the years, they have tried to weather the storm having to cut back on things that could significantly raise prices even more. Most people have no concept of how much things cost to maintain a site as large as Disney. I work in facilities management; we manage over 1,000,000 square feet of multi-use spaces with some buildings that operate 24 hours a day. The cost and hard work is staggering.

Secondly, you will find that people are naturally disposed to complain more than compliment. Peoples' expectations remain high and they are more likely to complain even more.

Personally, I have always taken life at face value; 90 percent of my experiences in life either bring me joy or bring joy to others. Case in point, many people see waiting, say in line, as some horrible burden. I see it as a way to meet people, give someone a smile, chat with the people I am standing in line with, or losing myself in prayer or a daydream about what is to come.

No, but a lot of people will cite one small insignificant incident and proclaim they will never be back.

I wasn't saying people were posting those exact words. Just that everytime something new comes out, so many people say about how bad it is, or how it is going to make Disney worse. The one that sparked me to ask this is X-pass or next gen fast pass. We have basically next to no knoweldge of how any of it will work. Yet, tons and tons of people are explaing how it will suck so much and will ruin Disney for this group of people or that. Disney comes out with some pretty amazing stuff, why not give them a chance? And if it is such a negative place for these people, why spend so much money and time on it?

Because some people just like to complain, nothing else. Every chance they get they will pull out their very long list of "everything wrong", proclaim they will never go again and then book another trip... while still complaining. :confused3 My conclusion, they do not believe what they say, they just like to :stir:, get attention, because with such issues with company, who would continiue to go to be miserable.

I think people are nervous about x-pass because it is messing with something that many of us love and something that we are very lucky to have. Free fastpass. Almost every other theme park that uses some kind of fast pass system charges extra for it and people are afraid that this is the way x-pass is going to go.

But in general, yes, I agree that sometimes people make a big deal out of something that isn't a big deal.

But there is nothing wrong with complaining about something you are unhappy about and in most cases, whatever people's complaints are about Disney, it isn't usually something that will keep them from going.

There are just some people that always find something to complain about. It's like they aren't happy unless they are complaining. I just ignore the whiny posts and focus on the positives!

It doesn't need to be said that the majority of things at WDW are great. If people thought the parks were all bad, they wouldn't care about them enough to come on here and discuss them.

I think the fact that most things there are great is what makes the occasional bad thing stand out enough by contrast to be noticed. If your kitchen floor is filthy, nobody's going to notice that spilled milk. But if it's generally clean, the spill will stand out like a sore thumb.

Those kind of posts remind me of my grandmother's old saying of how some people "would want a new rope to hang them." (Gotta love southern grannies!)

I am choosing to look at the negativity like this.....if those who are upset with Disney decide not to go, it will be less crowded for us. :thumbsup2

There's no way Disney is going to please everyone. If something is run down, people will demand a refurb. If they refurb, it's taking too long or it's not being done how people expected. Personally, I can't think of a situation that would "ruin" Disney for me. TT is one of our favorites and we'll miss it this trip, but I'm excited for next time. If there's a wall up in Fantasyland, I'll take photos in the other direction. If I don't like a restaurant, I don't go there again. If they raise prices and it's more than we can stomach, we'll go less often. For some, little things are the big picture and there's nothing anyone can do about it. I read the doom and gloom negative posts sometimes with amazement and go on. I choose to focus on the warm, full-heart feeling that Disney gives me and my family. And I'm sad sometimes that it doesn't do that for everyone.

I for one - love Disney, and know that no one is perfect, but Disney will go out of their way to make your experience as close to it as possible.

Or it could be the nature of people who only want sunshiney reports.

So, this is a site where people review and talk about their experiences. Some times their experiences are bad or don't live up to their expectations. why should they lie because you guys only want to hear gumdrops and roses?

Now generally I'm not one to say my vacations are "ruined" but I will say when I think disney has dropped the ball.

For example, I think disney food has severly decreased in quality. Lots of folks see a correlation to the ddp but If some one ask me to review a restuarant I do try and explain why I come to that conclusion but according to you guys I shouldn't voice my opinion because it's a complaint? :confused3
If a newbie ask if some place is "worth" the money, I give them my honest opinion. like I said I do try and explain how I came to that conclusion.

Now when some thing new comes out, people only can speculate on how it will effect some place they love. Personally I love that aspect of the dis, imo the more information from different points of view you have the better you can plan. No one knows how Xpass will effect their vacations, the unknown is always a little bit scary especially when it's a place you love and have great memories off.

Now for me, I still enjoy my vacations but I have cut way back on my disney spending dollars. I don't go for long trips anymore and rarely do I eat onsite except for a few signature meals. I go back because for me it's a cheap vacation since I have a dvc. Would I ever pay full price for what disney offers? No way. Also my expectations are very low with disney. I no longer expect the great standard they performed at during the early 90's. Disney use to be our "go to" now it's more of a default place. Once we did the mouseworld every year some times 2X;s a year, now we are realizing there are tons of places that give great "value" for our vacation dollar.

I haven't seen any of those posts, either.

There was one just the other week..I don't remember what the exact issue was, but at the end of the post, the OP said "bye, Disney"..:lmao:

That always makes me laugh, because I seriously doubt Disney gives a flying fig about the fact that this one person won't be back.

Ok, I looked it up..it was regarding ride closures for refurbs, and EMH. I won't post the thread because it was closed, and I dont want to get in trouble. ;)

They have laid some proverbial eggs also. Can some one say "stitch"!! and the DTD refurb, which is pretty much more stores selling the same stuff that can be found else where? They took out some really neat clubs (adventures club was imaginery at it's finest) to be replaced with???? empty buildings? whats so amazing about that? Even T-Rex is pretty much Rainforest cafe with Dinosaurs..:rotfl2:

Anyhoo,
I think that's pretty natural. A new program is coming out that does have the potential to effect folks vacations. of course we're going to dissect it to death.

I have been going to WDW almost every year since I was 4, I am 29 now. I have yet to have any complaints. Yes, things have changed a lot and I cannot say I have been thrilled about every change and I still see room for improvement but that does not warrant any complaints. All in all, I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my WDW vacations and have always been impressed with the level of service received.
