What resorts are currently available, what is the current going rate, and how long do the contracts last for the available resorts? Just heard the news about DVC resales, so it makes buying directly much more appealing.

Have you read the whole thread about the changes? If you are planning on purchasing now (i.e., closing before March 20), what swayed you toward purchasing direct over resale?

In essence all the DVC resorts are available through Disney. But you will have to understand they will be pushing BLT and Alunia. If your heart is set on any of the others they are available, just ask. When we bought in they were pushing SSR but ended up being able to purchase BWV even though it was considered sold out. Going rates, that I am not to sure about. Guessing that sold out resorts maybe in the low $90's.?.?:confused3
Good Luck

any resort can be purchased directly, although DVC will push new resorts like BLT and AKV harder. here is a ballpark for current pricing:

http://dvcnews.com/index.php/dvc-program/financial/pricing-a-promotions

BCV, BWV, VWL, HHI, VB = 2042 expiration date
SSR = 2054
AKV = 2057
BLT = 2060

OKW can end in 2042 or 2057...that is the only complicated one.

make sure you take a little more time to understand what you are giving up - using pts to book the GF or a cruise is typically more expensive than booking a cash reservation. if you plan to use DVC pts outside the DVC resorts on a regular basis, you are probably throwing money away to buy a DVC contract.

Just to expound a bit on what chalee mentioned, counting on using your DVC points for things such as trading out to RCI or going on a cruise isn't the most cost-effective use of your points. For example, if you rented your points out instead of using them for a cruise, you could use that money to pay for the cruise and in many cases, have spending money left over. Further, the benefit of using your points for things other than the actual DVC resorts is just that: a benefit or perk. In other words, there is no guarantee that perk will continue in the future. However, all those points aside, buying direct still does give you the choice of using your points how you wish for the foreseeable future.

Still, LouisianaDisneyFan makes a valid point. Have you checked out the resale market listings yet? If you act quickly and make closing before 20 Mar 11 a requirement in any resale contract you attempt, then you could save a substantial amount of money via buying direct. For example, I paid $72 a point (250 pts) for VWL via a resale contract, and the going rate buying directly through Disney is $102. That's a huge savings. So, there are several things to seriously consider before you buy--these are but a few. :)

Good luck!
