If anyone is donating blood in the near future and would like to credit it to Ed COmstock at RI hospital ,that would be great..He has recived a lot of blood in the last month and probably will get more . I cannot donate and everyone I know has already donated to my mother. To those of you who regularly donate blood..Thanks.. You save lives.

Whole blood, plasma or platelets? (Or does it matter?)

He has recieved all 3 especially during the surgery and with the internal bleeding yesterday..I've seen him get blood and blood products at least 10 times, and I'm only there 6 hours a day..

I'm not eligible, but I will pass this along to my family and friends.

Thinking of you, Ed and the kids often...

I know:love: ... I've seen you posting very regularly in Ed's thread...He's getting anxious to get online.

Jenny, I'm just curious...I've donated blood before, but never credited anyone. What is that, and how does it work?

Thanks.

Ill tell you what Jenny. You really need to read the thread again.

I skimmed over it earlier today (just looking at your posts and updates) and Eds improvements have been remarkable when you look at the big picture. I know when he has a setback it freaks you out...but holy cow, when you look back over the weeks....he is REALLY doing well. Seriously. It's so awesome and uplifting.

It will be such a great day when he is able to post again.

Will do, Jenny! :thumbsup2

DH gives platelets and plasma every few weeks. I give when I can.

I did that just a few days ago, both here and in another forum I post in..When I consider that 4 weeks ago I didn't know if he would live or die,and now he is over the hump, so to speak, kidney function is back, he's laughing, talking getting frustrated etc..In other words he is becoming himself again.. When I think about the odds that he's even alive right now,I'm in awe.. Had he bleed out quicker(he was sick 36 hours before), had the first hospital not figured out this was a dissection and not a heart attack, had the paramedics been just a little slower, had he not had an expert thorasic surgeon etc.
Someone is looking out for us, that's for sure.. Neither one of us should be alive... Yesterday, the doc that treated the bleeeding commented on Ed's luck being poor lately,I see it the opposite.. He's really, really lucky

Honestly,I'm not exactly sure... I was told it can be done..You can give wherver you want and give them a paticular name, and they get a credit for the blood or blood product you donate, even if you are different types...

It truly is amazing. You two are meant for great things. I believe there are some people who are born with a purpose that is bigger than most, a gift of sharing and bringing it to the people (so to speak) and I see that in you.

I have already seen it here in your sharing your story of living with HIV. I have no doubt, you have personalized it for many, many people who otherwise have never had any experience with anyone who dealt with it. Or understanding of what they really go through. It's a beautiful thing, your allowing people into your life like that, sharing your journey. I admire you.

I'm donating on Tuesday when the bloodmobile comes to work. I'm not sure how crediting works but I'll bring the info and try to have me and my friend credit him if we can

I will tell DH, he works at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. If he can't donate I will ask him to put the word out for you. He/Ed has come a long way, tell him to keep it up:hug:

I've donated in someones name several times and it's really really easy. Just give them the name of the person AND the hospital they're in (sometimes they want more info if you have it like hospital address/phone number). The donation usually doesn't get credited right away and one of mine took 6 or 7 months to show up on the recieving end.

I'd be happy to donate as it's about that time of year for me but unfortunately I'm down with the mumps right now. I think blood/platelet donation is out for me for a while. I'll pass the word along though and maybe you'll see some blood bank credits from northern Minnesota!!

I haven't donated in a while... and it's about time for me to go again. I will be more than happy to take Ed's info along and have them credit it to him.

I'm glad he's on the upswing right now. I remember you and your family in my prayers often. I'm glad you are seeing Ed's struggle in a positive light!
