Hi Everyone,

First of all I'm new to the boards here, I'm stu and I'm from the UK...Hi Everyone!!!

Now to my question:

I'm going to DisneyWorld in September, it's not my first time, but I want to make this time extra magical as a thank you to my mum who has been so fantastic and wonderful to me for as long as I can remember. Part of my plan is to go to a really nice restaurant for the last evening of our stay. I've done a lot of saving up so money won't be an issue, but as you can imagine, as this will be something of a one off occasion I want to make sure everything is perfect.

Please could you give me your personal recommendations for places to go and any other hints of advice you have.

Thank you all in advance and have a magical day!!!
Stu

Welcome Stu! What king of food does your mom like? Steak, seafood?
Have you checked out the menus online to see if anything catches your eye?

Hi Stu, and welcome!!

I haven't been to WDW since 1990, so take it for what it's worth.

But how about a dinner at the Coral Reef in Epcot? Once you have the confirmation number from your ADR, you can arrange for personalized menus as a surprise. (If your timing is really lucky, it's also possible sometimes to arrange to have a diver hold up a sign for you.)

I've looked at a lot of menu (waaay to many actually) but I suppose I want to know what the restaurants are like in terms of their repuation and if people have enjoyed the food. Jiko looks nice, so does the california grill as do so many others. I just want to make sure that where ever i choose the food is really, really good... :)

Thanks!

Stu, are you going THIS September? If so, then your options may be a lot more limited than you realize-- many people made their ADRs 6 months ago.

It's after 7 am in Orlando (just barely ;) ) Why not call Disney and see what's available during the days you'll be there?

If you can't come up with a special meal on relatively short notice, maybe consider tickets to Cirque de Solei??

aaaah i'm just so excited about Disney...isn't it meant to be for kids? ha I think it's not untill you're an adult that Disney really comes into its own!!!!

Absolutely. The last time I was there, it was just myself and my husband, the year after we got married. We were there at rope drop each day, and stayed till closing. It was exhausting, but we had the time of our lives!

(As an aside: the one thing we did last trip that wasn't Disney was a trip to Cape Canaveral. It was amazing seeing the Apollo spacecraft, and all the memorabelia from the mood landings. It's an easy drive--- pretty much an hour due east of Disney. Just wanted to throw it out there as an idea)

This will be a much different trip for us. We've PROMISED the kids that they'll get pool time every afternoon-- it simply isn't a vacation for my kids unless the can swim. (And, yes, we have a pool in our yard. But it doesn't have a volcano like the one at the Polynesian!) Our whole pace will be a lot slower, and I can't wait!!!!!

Now if only someone would come clean my house before we go, I would be a very happy mom!

My whole family went in 2001 and we went to see Cape Canaveral (it was amazing)! Also, St. Petersburg is wonderful with the pelicans...

We booked this really last minute, it's only for a week because I need to get back to start at university but there are rumours that the whole family are going to go back Christmas 2009 for my grandparents 80th birthdays! If we do, we'll go for longer and do absolutely everything we can.

I still love pools with volcanoes in (maybe I should admit to that but it's true :dance3: )

I'd love to hear all about everything when you get back...It'll make everything even more exciting :cheer2:

I hear Jiko is amazing - we ate at Boma last year (the buffet at AKL) and it was terrific. If they serve a flight of wines at Jiko give it a try. It is three samples of three different African wines (one set of reds or one set of whites) - DH ordered one and I the other. It was a really nice way to make a great dinner even more special. We are from wine country in southern Ontario so wine is a part of our lifestyle and we sure enjoyed the African wines. Have a great time on your trip - I have a son who is 10 and I hope he grows up to be so grateful to his mom. You will have memories to last a lifetime from this trip!

It may not be "special" because the food isn't gourmet, but the HDDR always is an extra special night at WDW for me. It is a super fun dinner show that is a must do for our family.:thumbsup2

awww thank you everyone you've been really helpful...I've also just booked the garden tea room, it looks lovely! lol i'm gonna have to get a better job if I keep this up...

I LOVE DISNEY, it's as simple as that!!!!

Hi there!

We love alot of places at WDW but if I had to pick just one place, and only one it would be Boma breakfast. It is just amazing!

Other than that there are many great places to choose from. I suggest going to allearsnet.com and looking at the menus and make sure you pick 2 or 3 back up places incase the place you really want is booked.
