Now, as a caveat, if they had the same type of thing in an internet format, that would be cool. I liked reading all the letters people sent in with pics, and the articles about a particular chef/restaurant/hotel/CM...etc.
I would LOVE to have that magazine back. That was the highlight of my life getting that. No matter how bad my day was, whenever I saw my Disney magazine in the mail, I would automatically be jumping for joy. I loved reading the letters that people wrote in. My brother was in one of the last issues. His school did a Disney themed talent show and his class did Hakuna Matata. One of the parents sent in a picture of the class all dressed up in their costumes and it was printed in the reader's letters section.
How much would people pay for a magazine? Would you really pay that much more than they charged for the old magazine? I was a subscriber, but it was just barely worth it at that price. If it were 20%-30% more expensive for the same thing, as we should expect, I don't think I'd subscribe.
I think the "fanatics" would pay an increased rate...although to be honest I don't know what it used to cost. I never paid attention. But any magazine I pick up at the supermarket now costs at least $3.50 an issue.
Now, whether or not there are enough "fanatics" to make it profitable, I have no idea. But the DIS has 80,000+ members...so there are a few, I'd bet.
I believe we paid $12 per year for four issues, so it was almost that expensive "back then". Given that it wasn't making enough money to warrant keeping it operating, I'd have to assume that it would become even more expensive: Figure $5 an issue, if left unchanged. I doubt that a majority of DIS members would subscribe -- I know that at that price I would not -- and even 80,000 is a relatively insignificant circulation for a magazine.
