I only read the 1st page of the "Learn from our mistakes" thread about Disney planning for vacations. And on there I read a poster suggest getting ID's for the kids and she made it fun by getting some pins for them too. Does anyone know more about that like where do we get them, are they the lanyard type that hangs around their neck,& are there any other types like bracelets?? We did a good job last year of keeping everyone together except for one incident at Epcot. My mother-in-law was supposed to been holding my 3 yr olds hand while we were walking in a gift shop. My son spotted me in the distance and said he was going over to me, so she let him go and saw him walk right up to me (I was debating necklaces with my daughter so I didn't notice). Well, he turned away and decided to shop for himself. When I saw my mother-in-law didn't have him, my husband (at the other end of the store) didn't have him, and I never even knew he walked over to me, I panicked. Till we saw this tiny little viking hat walking by the cash register with a sword and shield too......my little guy! Needless to say there was A LOT of discussion of making sure the other adult knows you are handing off a child to them, but if things had gone wrong, I would have appreciated knowing they had something on them with a way for an adult to contact our cell phones. So this trip I am VERY interested in that. Esp since we are also going down with friends & their kids and I'm sure there will be more splitting up with the kids divided between groups. Just want to be more cautious this time. Thanks!!!

I bought a RoadID Slim with my contact information on it. You can get multiple bracelets and the small ID tag is interchangeable or even fits a Livestrong bracelet. My daughter can wear it on her ankle or wrist and so far likes wearing it around.

I used a company called Wristband Connection. They make silicone bracelets that you can engrave with information (like Livestrong bracelets). I had several engraved with DS's name and both DH and my cell phone numbers.

I've also seen some by a company called Vital ID. They make a velcro like band. I actually wear a similar one from Road ID when I go out walking. It can be personalized as well.

I like the silicone ones because I think DS would think the others are itchy or hot. Also, with the silicone ones, I slip it around his ankle rather than on his wrist. I find that on his wrist it tends to get played with and we've lost one that I'm pretty sure he just took off. On his ankle, it gets forgotten about but can easily be used if he gets lost.

We got id tags at pet smart imprinted with each kids name and our cell number. Then, we just attach it to their shoelace. Works great and is cheap and reusable!

Whatever route you go, please be careful about having something that can be read without the child pointing it out. We don't monogram names onto backpacks or put them on t-shirts to prevent a predator from calling our child by name and making the child think the adult is ok. I'm sure most parents have heard this before, but it bears repeating sometimes.

We printed our kids' names and our cell phone numbers on business card sized paper and laminated it. They kept these in their pockets during the trip (cargo shorts are awesome for this). These would also fit into lanyard pouches very easily.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!! Great websites!

To the above poster, I agree with you about not putting their names on something so strangers can easily find out what their name is. At 1st that was my concern with the temp tattoos, but nothing will have their name on it - just my cell and my husbands cell #. I think that option will work best for my (now) 4 yr old. He would play with the bracelet too much or want it off - even on his ankle. But the bracelets at wristband connection is definitely what I'm getting the older 2 kids. The info is in the inside of the bracelet, so not readily noticeable and they are old enough to be able to show an adult the info if we get separated. Really great suggestions everyone! I appreciate it a lot. I even emailed my friend this info and she is getting them for her kids too. Thanks again!

I'm so glad I saw this thread. We'll be going next year with two small girls who do not like to hold hands. We make them most of the time, but they usually fight us tooth and nail. And I'll have my MIL with me who can be a bit...scattered. I'm terrified that if we leave the girls with her for a few minutes so we can ride a thrill ride, she'll lose them. I pretty much trust her, but there is always that nagging feeling, ya know? It helps that my mom will be with us too, who is like a drill sargeant when keeping up with little ones. I doubt we ever head off three adults in one direction and one adult + two kids in the other. There will likely be two adults with the kids at all times. Still, I had never heard of SafetyTats and I think it is BRILLIANT. I will definitely be getting these before we go, just in case. I can't wait to show my husband! :)

We used these last year! They are awesome! We also took a picture of DS every morning, or whenever we changed clothes. Then when we made sure he knew what the CM name tags looked like, and what the security uniforms looked like. Thank goodness we never had to put our plans in to action, but, it made me feel a lot better knowing he was prepared.

We took and bought a lanyard with a simple attached disney card....we then turned it over and wrote "DAD"-cell number, "MOM"-cell#, this way no one could just yell their name(child's).....it made us feel safe as well as our daughter....she didnt mind wearing it because her pins for trading were on it....we also made sure that she knew that if she was lost to stay where she was and someone would help....the cast members are great for helping with this.....

We do something similiar, only I use cardstock and stickers on the front and write our phone numbers on the back. Then I take it to Staples and laminate it. We attach this to a lanyard that they wear anyway because of pins.

I'm a huge fan of RoadID. I run and if something were to happen to me, medics can notify my husband. I'm petite and I wear the wrist ID slim in a size small, which is a 6" circumference. The XS is a 5" circumference. I actually never take mine off; it's light and comfortable. The plate will fit any cause bracelet like Livestrong, etc. The bands are latex-free silicone.

The plate is stainless steel and the engraving is really tiny so it isn't legible unless you hold it close to your face. You could simply engrave "ICE mom xxx-xxx-xxxx" etc if you don't want to put your kid's name on it. My son has autism and if he were non-verbal I'd have him wear this.

We did this and got one with the emergency contact # and a qr code with additional numbers. Put them on each kids shoulder where all the had to do was raise their sleeve. They lasted from the morning we left for the airport until the evening we got home 7 days later. With multiple days swimming and showers etc...

We are going in a little less than a month and, with 3 - 6 yo and under, have done a couple of things.

1. Ordered rubber bracelets from http://www.shanrene.com. We had DW and my cell phone numbers put on them with "If I'm LOST call". The smallest size is still a bit big for the little one, but it can go on her ankle.

2. We also made IDs for them to wear on a lanyard. I let them pic their favorite princess and put a picture with the vital information (name, phone numbers, resort, etc.) about the size of a business card. I then had them laminated - like a license. Most of the office supply stores (Office Depot, etc.) sell the heat laminating sleaves and will run it through the machine for a very small charge (or maybe even free). They were quite excited about these.

I also fined the stroller to be a big help in keeping the littler ones corralled, especially in crowds. But, I think the most important step is to talk to them about staying with mom and dad, and showing them how to identify the CM's just in case. It certainly wouldn't be the 1st time I lost a kid. :rolleyes1

Good luck and have fun!
