:confused3 Do we need ID's for our children ages 7, 9, & 14? When we went 5 years ago, we didn't need them. We only needed ID's for DH and me.

Nope. Unless you are planning on traveling out of the country you should not need ID for your kids.

It doesn't hurt to have something, however. Our local sheriff's department makes them for kids (for free) and they are really nice because they are tied in with the amber alert system. I know some parents think it is kind of "big Brother-ish" to get ids for little kids, but if something were to happen to my kids, I'd like to know the police already have a photo and record for them. If you don't want to go that route, I would make sure you have current photos/snapshots of your kids with you. Even if you just get separated in the parks, it could be handy to be able to show the CMs a photo. You can also put id tags on their shoes, either the kind that velcros into their laces or a license type metal tag that can be crimped onto the shoe.

I would bring them just in case. When I went last summer we went to AK for morning EMH and it was our first time and my son was so excited that as soon as the person in front of him put their ticket in and began to wak through that he put his card through not realizing that the person in front of him had a problem with his ticket and he was small enough that he would just duck under the turnstile b/c it was too hard for him to push on it. So off he went to meet up with my friend who was waiting for me and DDs to enter. Well the lady started screaming for my son to come back and he didn't realize she was talking to him so he just stayed there - she was making such a fuss she didn't hear me say what's the matter (somebody cut in front of me last minute & didn't speak English when I said excuse me, but I was able to keep my eye on him so it wasn't the end of the world) I was able to get her attention and said that he was my son and what's the matter? And so very rudely (and very unDisney like) she explained what happened and then demanded that I show her mine and my son's ID cards or she would call security. I showed her my ID card and politely said, "I'm sorry I don't have my son's card, it is with my huband in his wallet and he missed the bus b/c he had to run back to the room b/c he forgot his camera, so he's on another bus." She started screaming at me that I was abusing the privilege of EMH and how they were for guests only and I was taking space from another person and that I was rude and thoughtless, etc, etc. Now the line behind me is growing and growing and people are getting angry (not at me thankfully), but I politely said, "Ma'am, if you look at my ID you will see that we are resort guests and are not abusing EMHs - the dates are here, I just don't have my son's card it is my my husband's wallet." Another CM came over, whom I guess was security b/c he had a walkie talking and came from the security office - she told him what happened and then said that I should be removed from the park b/c I was trying to abuse the system - I showed him my ID and explained that DH had the ID and was waiting for another bus and would be happy to bring the ID to security when DH got there. The security guard looked at her and politely told her that she was wrong and I wasn't abusing the system and there was no wrong doing whatsoever. The CM apologized to me profusely and said I could go and returning was not necessary.

Sry so long winded - just make sure you do have the IDs and if one person has to stay behind for whatever reason, make sure the other person has the necessary IDs

My bad :guilty: I thought you meant resort ids. As long as both you and DH are traveling together I don't think you would need them - only if you were traveling without DH then you would need a letter stating from him saying it was he was aware of the travel plans. The airline said it was necessary for a letter b/c too many parents were kidnapping their own children b/c of unfortunate custodial arrangements.

If your asking about ID for airline travel the answer is no, ID is required for passengers 18 and over. We fly many times a year and have never been asked for ID for the kids.

If your staying onsite then what zippidy do dah was referring to is the resort ID for the extra magic hours. Each person staying at a WDW resort will be issued an ID and they will need it for entry to the parks in the early morning and for the wristband to stay for the after hours EMH's.

Otherwise if your staying offsite or don't plan to use EMH its a personal decision to make ID's. When my kids were little they wore a shoe tag - $2.00 at wallmart and now they have Disney designs. When they got too old for a shoe tag I gave them my card with my cellphone number until they knew it cold.

Not true, unless your leaving the country all you need is a ticket for a child to travel. I travel often (5-7x a year) as the solo adult with my dd's as well as with my neices and my nephew with us on trips and never had a letter of permission. Just last month we took my neice with us on a trip to Maine and even though she has a different last name we still had no problem. It was just myself, my neice 11 and my 10 and 12yo dd's.

Ok - gotcha :goodvibes

No, kids won't need an ID since they don't have to use the finger scan. Unless you have an older looking 2yo or 9yo I can't think of a reason for a kid to need ID to gain admission.

No he doesn't need an id because he is on an adult ticket so no need to question it. He doesn't need one for the airline either.
