Iditarod 2010

I know I'm a few days late, but I was waiting to make sure there wasn't another thread.

So is anyone following the Iditarod? Last I checked, the musher in first place is laying over in Rohn, about 165 miles into the course.

Does anyone live along the course? Are any disers participating this year?

I follow it. I would love to participate in the Teacher on the Trail program that they run, but I don't think my district would be too keen on having me leave for a few weeks. One year they did a whole series on the Discover channel, I think, that was sort of like Deadliest Catch but for the Iditarod. It was neat. Hope they do something like that again this year.

Love the Iditarod! We've travelled to Alaska 4 times. And, we got to pet sled dogs on a couple of our trips. Once we met Libby Riddles on our cruise ship. She came on board the ship to give a fantastic lecture.

I did one of the helicopter tours out of Skagway that lands on a glacier. We went dogsledding on the glacier. What an experience. On the same trip, but on the land portion, we got to meet the late, great Susan Butcher as she put her dogs through a training.

That would be such a great learning experience, especially if you don't live near alaska, and the kids aren't really familiar with it.
