Okay, now that I have your attention, I have a question.

Would somebody look like a complete idiot getting on a wet ride like Kali River Rapids with a poncho on? My mother-in-law is not real big on getting wet and to tell you the truth, neither are my husband, daughter or father-in-law. Well, me either for that matter.

She wants to ride Kali, but she is not interested in getting soaked. My husband would like to ride, but he does not want to walk around wet (though we will be there in June) and is concerned about wet...uh, um...undergarments...and you know, the whole chafing bit.

So, what do you think? Is it pointless to ride a wet ride if you are going to avoid getting wet or do people do this all of the time just so that they will be able to say they rode it?

Bring the Poncho !!!
I was unlucky and on the wet end of the ride without one !!
My mom and DD had theirs one !!
I sure looked like the silly one
just beware that you do need to keep your shoes one so you might want to have a pair of sandals in your backpack to put on during the ride or after..

I vote for bring the ponchos.
I use one and the other people that get soaked wished they had. I will let me DD get wet if she has on shorts that will not take forever to dry. Denim takes way too long to dry out.

My family, party of 8, last Oct on Halloween wore matching white shirts and decided to ride....not a good idea  can you say wet t-shirt contest.....It was fun but embarassing after we got off the ride.
So please think about what you are wearing and make a good judgement call as to weather you use the poncho or not.

Either way you will have fun.

I'm an even bigger idiot...I wear a poncho on Splash Mountain!! I won't even touch Kali, but I've seen others with them on, so don't worry!:)

I just watched the "Planning Your Disney Trip" on the Travel Channel and the family that covered Animal Kingdom all wore their ponchos on Kali! So, no ... I don't think you'll look out of place!

Remember ... you can always pack a fresh wardrobe (inc. undergarments) in your back pack!

I saw that too. I tapped it so we can all watch it before we go. It was really good to see opinions from people who visit instead of WDW employees.

This is without a doubt the wettest ride in WDW. We usually visit in the summer when it is sooo hot and can't wait to get wet but I have seen tons of people wearing ponchos who don't want to get soaked. Also, flip flops/sandals instead of sneakers are the way to go. There is this compartment in the middle of the ride where you can put your backpacks, etc. so they don't get too water logged.

And I, too, have worn a poncho on Splash Mtn.! :earsboy:

Thank you everybody. I was really thinking we would look stupid wearing ponchos in June on a wet ride, but I feel better about it now. I have heard that you do get really really wet...well, drenched and soaked were the words I heard.

Being that we are going in June, I do not plan to wear any dark t-shirts, so I do not want to be showing off my big 'ol melons :earseek: and embarassing myself after riding Kali.

Well, we listened to the disboard and brought ponchos. It was our first ride on EMH (evening) and we didn't want to be wet for 3 hours plus dinner.

We sat with a big, fat, loudmouth, from the South with a very heavy accent that would not let up on my husband for wearing a poncho. The entire ride he made loud obnoxious comments about wearing the ponchos. It really ruined the ride for us.

Of course on the way out his toddler was crying because she was wet and uncomfortable and he was heading toward the exit. He wasn't wearing a wrist band so we knew that was his last ride of the day.

I would wear a poncho again but next time maybe I won't take take the high rode and keep my mouth shut.

bytheblood, This ride is really a lot of fun. You'll have such a blast you won't care how the heck you look or how wet you get! Just have a great time!!

I've seen folks wearing ponchos plenty of times.....

however.....

I once rode where there was an older gentleman opposite me who popped open a large umbrella when the ride began :p Now that looked a little silly but the expression on his face as he held that umbrella was priceless, and he, as well as all the passengers in the raft, giggled about it the whole ride through :)

The first time I rode Kali, I did not wear a poncho, and was completely soaked all day. I now wear one every time. Many other people do to. I think the ones coming off the ride soaked are the silly ones.

3 DDs and myself wore ponchos when we rode in Jan, Hispanic family making fun of us in Spanish didn't. After the big splash and many, MANY English obscenities (not form our mouths!) we were the ones laughing as we were dry and ready to ride again, while they were dripping, soaking wet and trying to wring out their clothes. They looked sheepishly at us and smiled wanly as they limped, dripping off the ride and we u-turned and rode again, this time with a couple who said, "Oh, man, I wish we'd thought of that" right before *they* were the ones to get soaked!

Wear the poncho, who cares what you look like?

They used to sell ponchos at the front of the line. We wear them in the colder months, but get wet in the summer. We also bring a hand towel with us to dry off after our soaking.

I don't think anyone would think twice about how idiotic you'd look wearing a poncho on Kali River Rapids because.....

....a cast member is stationed at the entrance....selling the ponchos! Not so idiotic now, eh?

We not only wear ponchos on Kali and Splash Mountain, we buy the flimsy one-use kind at Walmart (about $.89 each) by the dozen to pack and take with us for just that purpose. We don't want to have to carry the "real" ponchos unless it is a rainy day.::MinnieMo

When we went on Kali, my boyfriend and I were the only ones in the raft without ponchos on! We all had a good laugh throughout the ride joking that since we were the only ones without the ponchos, we'd be the only ones not to get wet.....it happened to happen that way! Though next time I will try to remember the ponchos anyway...at one point in the ride a huge wave came and dropped over one woman, soaking her completely!

We wear ponchos every time. We hate having to walk around wet. There's nothing worse than wet undies! They may laugh at us for looking silly, but at least we're fairly dry at the end of the ride! :p I find I enjoy the ride more when I don't have to worry so much about getting soaked.

Well--
we always see folks with ponchos, but never had any on our raft.
To me (in the warmer months at least) one of the fun things on this ride IS getting wet!!
