Another thread about carding individuals before serving them alcohol reminded me of my own experience of being "carded". I'm 26 years old almost. I look a little younger than that, maybe as young as 21 or 22. So, when I want to purchase alcohol, I always have my ID with me just in case. Sometimes I get carded, sometimes I don't. (The legal drinking age in Nova Scotia is 19 and they are supposed to ID anyone who looks under 25.) No problem whatsoever for me.
However . . .
On three different occasions, I have gone to Costco and went up to one of the sample booths to tasts some tea biscuits or chip dip or something only to have the Costco sample ladies ask where my parents are. Apparently, at Costco if you are under 16 they need to have your parents' permission before they give you a sample. This is kind of ridiculous and I do have to say that it bothers me, especially since I pay good money to have a membership there. Also, the way in which they respond when I say that I'm 25 is embarassing. Has something really terrible happened with children and food allergies that make these sample ladies so extra paranoid that they would question anyone under the age of 30?
